Justin Green Cleared to Play at Male

Featured Replies

Just found out this week that Justin Green of Male has been cleared to play football. For those who may remember, Justin (Younger brother of Ohio State's Marcus Green) suffered a massive injury during a JV game against Butler that almost left him paralyzed. He got fitted for a special helmet at Ohio State and will be back in 2006. This makes for a great threat to take away some of the pressure and focus by defensive coaches on Beaumont.

Green has been seen as being faster and "potentially" better than Beaumont. THis will certainly give coach Redman another dangerous weapon in his offense.

At any rate, glad to see he is ok and can still play...good luck Bulldogs.

That is great news that Justin will be back! Too many potentially super players fall by the wayside to unfortunate injuries. This will definitely make the "Big 3" battle that much more interesting this fall. This young man possesses tremendous speed. :thumb:

Great news. It is always great to hear about a kid overcoming an obstacle.

Just glad he is going to be OK. Football or not. Pretty bad hit he took. I wasn't there but my wife was and everyone was real upset.

I wish him well but if he was my son his playing days would be over! Why take the chance, he already dodged one bullet.

You must not know what kind of family this kid comes from. They are football to the core. His Dad is "Jelly" Green. Who from what I understand was one of the best football players ever to grace the fields in Louisville. His brother is Marcus Green starting DT at The Ohio State Universtiy. I doubt very seriously that they would consider not playing. If the docs say its ok, I can't see them doing anything different.

GREAT to hear! Fine young man and a wonderful family.

I saw and talked to Jelly and Justin last thursday night. He looks fine and is running track. A very talented young man, has always played the game hard even as a peewee. If you have not seen him lately, he has grown! Looks to be about 5'10" to 5'11". I have known Coach Green for a long time and I believe the decision to let Justin play (after being cleared by doctors) was still thought through with only his best interests in mind. A young man that has been around the game of football for as long as he has and with it being such an important part of growing up, I would think the kid would not be happy not playing. Everybody that straps it on to play this game takes risks that are equal to his all the time. A lot of these players may have narrowing of the spinal cord, enlarged hearts, asthma and a list of other ailments that are undiagnosed that may cost a player their health and possibly more.

As a parent whose son faced a career-ending injury, I can 100% agree with what you are saying. My son's injury was serious and had he elected not to try playing again, I can't think of one person who would have thought any less of him for it. With his doctor's OK, he returned the next year and worked hard to get back to where he was before the injury. Evenutally, the injury did indeed turn out to be career ending.

Do I regret having let him return to playing? Not at all. At 15 or 16 years old, the "what-if's" would have eaten him alive. Kids that age are capable of a say in their future, and with their family's support and rational physician care, their progress and health can be monitored and reasonable decisions made. I wish Justin all the best of luck! It takes alot of guts to return, and an incredible amount of hard work. He's a special young man to do so!

RockMom, I didn't know that about your son but I to do agree that you really have to let them decide. Kids get hurt all the time doing nothing physical. You can be riding a bike, skating boarding, four wheeling, or just walking along a busy street and someone lose control of their car. I always said that if my kid gets hurt and quits thats fine but if he wanted to return that was OK too. People just simply refuse to allow their kids to play football, my responce is if my son got hurt doing something he loved doing I would struggle with it but not near as much as if he got hurt in some freak accident and I wouldn't allow him do something he truly love doing, and now couldn't...............LTW.

He is a outstanding football player and I am glad to see him back on the field for the Bulldogs. Maybe with him and Beaumont we have a chance to bring the ring back to preston highway (not southern either...lol)! He is lightning quick and exactly the opposite of his older brother marcus but will have the game changing ability his brother did in different areas of the game.

Great news! I'm looking forward to seeing #26 take the field this fall.
