I have seen seven of the players originally listed by 4chs and I will say that all seven have something that it takes to even be considered D-1. Size, with maybe the exception of Rico Neal but he will make up for that and then some with ability. My point is that, while we all think there are so many great ball players on our respective teams, only a very small percentage will even be considered by D-1 recruiters. I can't say whether all the players that finally get recruited and signed by D-1 schools actually seem to be true D-1 talent or not. It would be purely my opinion but I know that every year some of these players are offered and purely by size or speed or just potential someone sees. Do very capable players get totally overlooked? Yes. These schools all have there standards on the linemen they recruit and if you arent't 6'4" tall you get put in the back of the stack. Only a few LaDanian Tomlinsons, Antwan Randle Els, Sam Mills, etc. ever even get a chance to play let alone D-1

The game was a first class event, I hope someone considers seeking a professional PA next time. That would be the only negative in a day of positives though. Rico Neal - RB (Central) took an option pitch in for the first West score to put them up 7-0. A real impressive run and cut back to get the score. The west came back with a drive set up by the passing game and a shorter pass to Courtney Gibbs - WR (Fern Creek) but the PAT kick was blocked by #38 for the west. West 7 - East 6. Heck, I could go on but don't we have a sports page in the local paper? There was not one word about the game nor was a line score printed, did the GLFCA fail to get this information in? Either way, if this were a post season BASKETBALL all star game then the articles leading up to and following the event would have been aplenty, for sure! Anyway, I just want to say what a good experience this is for the players. I am able to say I have fond memories of the game I was a fortunate enough to play in (83). Some players were absent due to their teams still being in the playoffs as well as Male players not being there. Overall a very good display of talent on the field and I noticed a few coaches from some smaller colleges in attendance. Hopefully the game being played in late fall instead of mid summer will only help some of the players (who have not been contacted by some of these schools) get opportunities to go to school and continue playing football.

If only more could experience that. :sleep:

Yeah, think that some of us take this foir granted. I have coached for teams that were lucky to have a PA guy that knew enough to say anything of value at a game. That would be a disservice to all fans and more importantly the players. This I can suffer through. While we may have problems we can all hope to be able to attain a level of professionalism that some schools are already enjoying. That would only benefit the players and fans.

Uh Oh! I hope that saying about history repeating itself isn't going to keep you up tonight. LOL!

I was at the game and the PA was not showing unsportsman like conduct, he WAS partial toward the home team. He did inform and was not doing play-by-play. He was positive toward the guests (not negative) just a little more positive towards the home team. He was very respectful to all. Was he annoying at times? Yes. But I think it is a little petty to be talking about this. Chalk it up to inexperience, they are a new program and do not have all the post season experience that you do. :fight:

Normally these decisions are made well before the St. X factor comes into play. If things remain the same then maybe all the district, regional, state games can be played at the facility most suitable for St.X and their contingent. I can not believe that the X fans should be so put out in every playoff game they have to endure. I guess we will hear the New England Patriots lobby for all post season games to be played outdoors with snow,hot chocolate, coffee and hand warmers available to all. I hope you can hear how this sounds to all us less fortunate folks. :fire:

Supposedly, final announcement on game site(s) to be today. According to WC faithful, WKU will not be the site of X vs. WC.

Find a suitable replacement soon and get him ready to take on some BIG linemen before getting to tackle a good back or two. The men in the box will get tested. If Mattingly has the ball, they best attack the line and make good tackles, if it is Anderson then they better not overpursue and they better make solid tackles. Good Luck ! I agree that Coach Brown made the correct call under those circumstances. The coach knows his team best and in the heat of battle he would be the only one to accurately make that decision. I wonder how many of these critics have EVER been in a situation even close to that of last night's game. We can all analyze and critique but the decision was made by a VERY qualified person.

Major mistake for WKU program. What better way showcase their facilities to prospective players. At this time I would think there are still a couple of area prospects, even if only a walk-on or two. The decision on the price may not have been well thought out by the proper authorities (AD and Head Coach) Unless maybe there are no prospects for WKU left in the state. Just seems like an opportunity for all parties involved. I could understand if WC or BG decided against this in favor of true home field settings. Either way I shall be in Bowling Green next week, where ever game(s) will be.

Standing very near the goal line (at the goal line) during that 4th down fumble into the end zone one would have to say that Morning had the momentum carrying him into the end zone. Yes the play was made and he fumbled, I believe that I did state that a lot of various scenarios could have played out after that. I merely stated my opinion where I felt that the opening drive fumble was an important turn in the game. That seems to have gotten turned into something that it wasn't. Sour grapes? Not at all, I don't understand how one can make a post and have it turn into a "sour grapes" issue. I wanted to merely point out that yes, even with a delay of game penalty that the defensive set may have caused the delay while even the defense sets and movements could have caused an OL to jump. Sometimes the X faithful expect these "kids" to be flawless and when they show signs of being "human" then the whole world must be coming to an end. St. X is lucky in the sense that when they do make some of the human mistakes that they are good enough to over come them and find ways to win. These mistakes seem to happen to teams that face St. X and you may even be one to pat the X men on the back for provoking the mistakes. Just seems that there are always different perspectives on like issues. Make more "sour grapes" out of that. :fight:

Should be an interesting matchup. WC has a lot of tools, size and speed. St. X snuck in and out of Bowling Green early this season with the win over a tough Bowling Green squad. All the prognosticators will compare the wins for and against both teams and most will say St. X wins. The advantages clearly favor the Warren Central team playing at home and possible at WKU, officials from out in the state, longer travel for X, etc. WC should be able to go toe to toe and blow for blow with X. Manual has played WC in BG two time in the past three seasons and once in Louisville. The two games in BG were barn burners. I will have to plan on the trip to BG next week.

I do not see how the opening drive fumble into the end zone cannot be considered a major game changing event. The Bulldogs could have scored to take a 7 point lead while taking ten minutes off the clock. Major, Major Major statement to be made. Cosequently, the tigers take a 7 point lead and win by a 1 point margin. Manual math tells me that the game could have ended with a different outcome. Of course that change in the history of the game could have led to different events throughout the remainder of the game and it could have ended any number of ways. I am saying only that by not scoring at that point a little wind went out of the sails and instead of playing with the lead JH played to stay with the Tigers. I will say that a few of the "un-X-like" mistakes could have had a thing or two to do with game preparation by JH . The blocked punt was huge and at that time gave JH the chance to get back into the game. A great job by JH to get the block, maybe not so much to do with St. X. I wonder how many blocked punts St. X suffered this season.

First of all, I was at the game, it was a great atmosphere and with a few timely plays JH stayed within striking distance. The 2 point conversion can be questioned till the cows come home. There were two receivers that were in the vicinity of the pass that was incomplete. The QB threw a bullet and it seemed to go through the receiver's hands. I do not know if he actually touched the ball or not but it was a great effort by the JH QB on the pass. The St. X radio people actually thought that the ball had been caught. (I was standing behind them). Under normal regular season circumstances you might think a coach would go for the PAT kick at home against the favored defending state champion BUT this was the regional final game that many never thought you had a chance to win. I think the emotions and momentum tell you to take the chance of a lifetime. The JH family have not a thing to be ashamed of and will build on this outstanding season for many seasons to come. Much due respect to the JH Bulldogs ! :thumb:

I must be missing something. All last week posters were upset that St. X had home field rights and should play the game at thier home field (Manual Stadium) and have all the advantages (amenities) of the home team. Now TigerKat is suggesting that JH play this game at another Hardin County facility due to the stadium not being able to hold a Toy Bowl. I have been in the JH stadium and it is very nice, but maybe they should have been thinking "Regional Final vs. St. X" when they built the stadium. Maybe they should have thought about the "Visiting St.X Faithful" when they chose to not install a visitors side. All this will be remedied when Tiger Stadium is complete. At least every other year when the regional finals pass through the Poplar Level Road facility. :banana: :laugh: :fire:

Runningref is adding a great perspective to these questions. I can see more rules questions getting addressed and answered competently and accurately.

What Redman does with offense and defense is get the best athletes on the field. If you play conventional defenses you have a hard time keeping all the athletes he has on the field at the same time. Even at the high school level, I really can't see all those same players fitting in a 4-3 or 4-4 or eve 3-4 scheme. Would they be able to stay on the field for an entire game without causing some other matchup problems. Of course when you play against a team with the spread offense you will be spread thin in the box but should more than match up outside and downfield. In the scheme that Male uses on defense, I would bet that they have come out ahead more times than not. We can all sit here and pick apart any defense or why it works against some offenses but gives up big plays against others. I will also go out on a limb and say Redman probably has less to install week to week defensively because of the simplicity of the scheme.

Manual does have some positions to fill. A lot of people saw a freshman team that played well at times but will need to mature a lot in many ways. The JV teams that played most of the games this season had some freshman but was sophomore dominated. The sophomore class will be the key. The sophomore class will be a lot like the senior bunch this year but they too need to mature a little. The positive side is that they are HARD WORKERS. Manual will have question marks early but some of those players got significant time in games the season. As every team loses players from year to year Manual will still compete.

Once again, congratulations to JH. Just need to ask about Redman's defense. How many points were given up by Male's defense in after half time ? Seven points in the 4th quarter. Did the defense change after half time or did JH go conservative. I doubt that JH went conservative with such a fragile lead at the half. Sounds like both D's took over and made plays in the 3rd and 4th quarters. I was not there, so I am just curious as to why the Male defense is sooooo bad and why Redman needs to change it. As unconventional as the defense is, it obviously limits a lot of teams to less points than JH got in the first half alone. Maybe JH just cashed in on some big plays or Male had a breakdown or two. Either way, the chances of Male's defense causing an offense to execute less officiently are great. The teams that have the ability to run the ball in the middle and have speed to match the DB downfield will cause problems, with any defense.You live and die with the offense and defense that you know and believe in. Tweak and adjust both as needed but as long as you have the right type of players you stay with what has worked for you. I think Redman has been around long enough to stick by his guns and do what has been successful for him everywhere he has been.
