What teams only lost to State Champions or Runner-Ups?

Recommended Posts

Manual lost to Trinity on a last minute 72 yard TD pass and to St.X (twice 17-7 and 33-18). Also lost to Male (FG with 6 sec. 31-28) and Warren Central (42-35 last minute TD pass). Every loss to a team that went at least to second round of playoffs.

I know the thread is "to state champ and runner up" but this is a tough schedule and a terrible way to lose tough games. No solace in looking at the strength of schedule and no such thing as a moral victory. The tough games will prepare the younger players for the future when the taste of victory will be hard to suppress.

I can think of four:

Bardstown lost to Mayfield

Ft. Campbell lost to Owensboro Catholic

Bullitt Central lost to Bowling Green

St X. Lost to Trinity

Bullitt East, not Bullitt Central, was the team whose only loss was to Bowling Green in the State Semi-Finals.

CovCath's 5 losses:

Cincy St X - Ohio D1 state champ

Columbus Bishop Watterson - Eliminated in second round of Ohio D2 playoffs by eventual runner up, Canfield.

Cincy Moeller - Eliminated in first round of Ohio D1 playoffs by Dayton Wayne.

Lexington Catholic - Kentucky AAA state champ.

Highlands - eliminated in third round of AAA playoffs by LexCath.

Colerain knocked out in second round by eventual DI state champ Xavier.

DeSales handled in DIII championship game by Stuebenville, 28 - 7.

Oh yeah ... I was thinking about Cincy St. Xavier, not Colerain.

Between Highlands and CovCath, I can never remember which schedule is which.
