Beechwood 24 Ryle 0 (Scrimmage)
Which is kind of what I was alluding to in my post this off season. I am sure Ryle has talent to work with still. But I think to many people were underselling just how special that senior class was for Ryle. That group was winning at a high level their whole lives. So while Ryle may have talent still and I think they will be fine once they get experience. It just isn’t going to be the same, simply because that group was just special. Also I will add Beechwood is just that good. Beechwood offense is still going to be great and now that Rash is back their defense should be even better. As their defense wasn’t bad under Volker but if they had a weak link to attack it was their defense. With Rash back their defense will be even better.

They scrimmaged Ludlow and St. Henry last night. I haven’t heard anything on how it went.

Beechwood 24 Ryle 0 (Scrimmage)
To me the top 3 teams in NKY this year will be Highlands, CovCath, and Beechwood. With Ryle most likely at number 4. Ryle still has talent, but that senior class that just graduated was great. So I think going into this scrimmage Beechwood is the better team for now. However, as the year goes my opinion could change after we see how Ryle looks now with these new pieces.

2026 Glasgow Scotties
I’m just curious—what was the point of bringing up that maybe their bracket was a little easier? Was your point to give a backhanded compliment? If so you succeeded with that. Especially in a 7-on-7 tournament where the field is only 30 yards long. Those games aren’t always as easy as people think, regardless of who you’re playing. Walton-Verona played Trotwood Madison from Ohio. In a real game, that matchup would likely be a running clock. But in the 7-on-7 tournament, Trotwood was only up by one point with two minutes left, and Walton-Verona got down to the 10-yard line with one final play to tie it. It wouldn’t have been that close in a full game, but that’s exactly the point—7-on-7 is a different format. No matter what the bracket looks like, it’s still not easy to win one of these tournaments or even advance far. A simple “Congratulations” and could be a great confidence boost for those kids would have been enough. Instead it was more of a backhanded compliment, “Congratulations…but….” and you keep doubling down on that backhanded compliment too.

7v7 tonight at the Walton Verona (Complex)
Boone, Dayton, St. Henry, and Walton all were together on Tuesday at St. Henry too. Newport was the only new one for yesteeday. I got see see most of both days. Boone has some good speed at WR, and their RB should be one of the best RBs in the area this year. Their QB throws a good ball too. Newport has speed everywhere like most years. Which their speed definitely was on display yesterday. It should be another good year for them. St. Henry looks much improved now in year two. With them starting many young players last year, you could see that experience paying off. Dayton is a team I think will surprise a lot of people this year. As they have a lot of speed and playmakers, led by their stud RB. Their offense was consistently making a good amount of plays both days. Walton looked much improved on Thursday and had a rgood day, after not looking to great on Tuesday.

7-On-7: 2026 Edition
Lloyd I believe returns a lot of starters from last year semi finals team. They did lose their qb. So probably will be growing pains, which is why these 7 on 7s are for. Plus Lloyd with having a new qb probably will be running the ball a lot more. So I don’t see them being in a rebuilding phase, and it’s more just how you can’t take to much from a 7 on 7.

Board Drills - (NFHS/SMAC) and Commissioner Tackett recommend elimination
I have to ask who specifically told you this is going into effect for all NKY schools? Is that something coming from like the superintendents of schools? I am curious because I have not heard this, especially with it being specific to NKY schools as you stated.

Which football programs made the best new hires for head coach this year?
The two obvious ones are Beechwood and Mercer County. One thought that I think people will look back on in 5 years and talk about what a great hire it was, is Rick Honaker at Campbell County.

2026 Saint Henry Crusaders
I look for St. Henry to make the playoffs again this year, and to possibly be a 3 seed this year.

Kentucky hires J. Batt as its new Athletic Director
I like this hire. They got someone with AD experience, he has been in the SEC too when he was an assistant at Bama. So he was part of overseeing Alabama becoming very good in basketball too, to go along with football.

Kentucky hires J. Batt as its new Athletic Director
UK didn't move on from their previous AD, he retired. That is the only reason why the job is open.

Sorsby granted an injunction
At the end of the day many were projecting him to be a 1st or 2nd round pick in the 2027 draft. So now with him being in the supplemental draft. I definitely could see a team being willing to use one of their late round draft picks in the supplemental draft to get a guy people were considering as a 1st or 2nd round talent. Not to mention would get him at a cheaper price now, and even if the NFL suspends him for this first year, they still own the rights. So for NFL teams I do think teams will be willing to put a late round draft pick offer in, because it is more of a higher reward than risk at this point.

I would flip flop Beechwood and Ryle, but the rest I agree with.

Is it time for Kentucky to revisit restrictions on June Football?
Agreed. Also I haven’t looked but are other falls sports also not allowed to have “organized” practice in June? If it’s this way for football. Then say Boys soccer I assume can’t do really any real practices or scrimmages against each other can they? Is Cross County not allowed to go practice? Golf? I could be wrong, but I believe all these other fall sports are allowed essentially do normal practices without mandatory attendance. So doesn’t seem right why they limit football though.

Sorsby granted an injunction
Yes according to espn he was and I also said that exact thing in the post you quoted.

Sorsby granted an injunction
Hmmm…. Just looked at the article you are referencing. It is talking about a teams QB situation and its tier heading into the season. Which that article is from two weeks ago when the assumption was he wouldn’t be allowed to play. Which it even says as much by stating the others QBs on the team will have to play the hero this year, and their tier is based off those guys. Here is an article by espn back in January talking about the top transfer QBs, before his gambling trouble came to light. Which espn had him ranked as the top transfer QB. Which is why he got paid a crap ton by Texas Tech to be their QB, as they won the battle for him over LSU. https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/I'd/47506851/2026-ncaa-football-transfer-portal-best-quarterbacks Then PFF had him as the 7th best QB in the country heading into this season before his gambling came up. Also NFL projections had him as a possible first round pick for next year. As I said I actually agree with your assessment of him. However, college coaches, people who do rankings, etc all seem to disagree with us and think of him very highly as a Qb.

2026 Cincinnati Bengals
Huh? Where do you see that? I don’t see anything about his contract being extended? I know his restructured his contract to save some money for this year, but haven’t seen anything about them adding years on to his contract.

Kentucky 2027 Recruiting
Which Credit to Pope for realizing he needed to get coaches on his staff who can connect with players better than him and also help close.

Sorsby granted an injunction
I agree with your assessment. However, football coaches apparently don’t agree. Which is why he was considered as possibly the top QB target in the portal and got big money.
-
Sorsby granted an injunction
The actual court case was scheduled for February, not the appeal. The actual injunction he was just granted basically prevents the NCAA from punishing him until the actual case is heard. The appeal will happen before that February court date, as the appeal will be to get the injunction revoked, so he can’t play until the court date.

Is it time for Kentucky to revisit restrictions on June Football?
What you are saying makes sense in regards to getting rid of 7 on 7 in June for football. Which is what happened in 2008 because there were a lot of issues between football coaches and bball coaches wanting players, and why that Change was made. Since 2008 bball has had summer games and basically every football program in the state had been doing practices in helmets in June. Which for the most part there really wasn’t many issues between basketball and football. As most football programs excepted they may not have some basketball kids in June, but at least still got to work with the rest of the kids who didn’t play basketball. Quite honestly the overall system seemed to be working well for the majority of schools across the state. So there really wasn’t a reason for all of a sudden this “rule change” last year, saying it’s been that way since 2008. When even in the KHSAA bylaws it wasn’t saying that until about two years ago. It’s quite simple, just go back to letting things operate like they had been since 2008 up until last year when Tackett sent out a message essentially changing how schools have operated.

Is it time for Kentucky to revisit restrictions on June Football?
Apparently, the Kentucky Football Coaches Association and Kentucky Basketball Coaches Association agreed to this arrangement back in 2008. At the time, the understanding was pretty straightforward: basketball would have June for its summer games, and football would have July for 7-on-7 competition. That made sense then, and most football programs accepted that they might not have all of their basketball players available in June. However, football teams were still able to practice together, wear helmets, and continue developing as a team in June. The issue that has led many football coaches to want to revisit this agreement stems from last year when Commissioner Tackett stated that football teams were not allowed to practice in helmets or conduct organized football activities in June, claiming that rule had been in place since 2008. The problem is that virtually every football program in the state had been practicing in helmets and conducting organized team activities during June for years. In fact, you can find bylaws from as recently as 2016 that specifically allowed helmets during June workouts. So it’s weird that he said it’s been that way since 2008 with helmets not being allowed, yet the bylaws for most of the years said helmets were allowed in June. That has created a lot of confusion within the football community. If this rule truly existed since 2008, why did the bylaws appear to allow helmets for so many years, and why wasn’t it enforced until recently? The bylaw language supporting the current interpretation didn’t change until a couple of years ago, which is why many football coaches now want the issue revisited. I know some people point to football’s “spring ball” period, but even then, football programs rarely have all of their athletes because many are participating in spring sports. It seems odd that basketball, whose season ends in March and doesn’t play meaningful games again until late November, can bring all of its players back together for summer competition in June before football ever gets a chance to have its full roster together. Quite honestly, the easiest solution may be to go back to what nearly every football program in Kentucky was already doing until last year. Let basketball have June for summer games, but allow football teams to conduct organized practices in helmets for players who are not participating in basketball. That’s essentially how programs operated for years, and the vast majority of both football and basketball coaches seemed perfectly fine with it. Or even put a limit on it for June like with spring ball. Allow football programs up to two weeks in June before dead period where they can do organized practices in helmets.
