  1. Belfry is in fine shape but they do need to hold onto the ball int he mud. I was just wondering Ive been several times but I want to know for sure. When you turn off of Tolsia Highway were exactly do you go to get to the field. I know and probably could find it but I want a little directions just to make sure.
  2. Yes they will be. Also even though I feel Bell will run on them I wont go out and say they will win because I havent seen Bell play and HC does have top notch speed.
  3. Honestly HC is good but nowere near what they was last year. Pikevilles OLine whipped them real good and that schocked me. They were only up 14-0 on Pikeville at halftime and Pikeville controlled the whole first quarter. HC is skilled and talented but I think the Boyle win is showing of Boyle being down this year. I see Bell giving them a good game. HC season truly does ride on their line. They have some amazing talent and will score on Bell with their speed. But mark it down Bell will control their Dline and have clock eating drives. If Bell can hold onto the football and not make dumb penalties they can win this thing.
  4. Actualy this Belfry team is very good compared to their starts last couple of years. Personaly I think this Belfry team is and will be better than last years team. If you havent seen Dustin May run yet then you are truly missing out. Belfry has 4 good running backs and a good young defense. Preston has alot of speed at qb also and as soona s the fumbles cut down they will be hard to stop. As for SC congrats on the win and good luck Hager is a good coach and a very good person.
  5. I wouldnt say that about them. I have alot family there and Man has always had a good team. They use to give Belfry all they wanted. Man this year lost their RB's but return their QB and most of their lines. Them and Logan is a close game every year. I still think JC will win this though I will say 35 to 7. I really dont know what Logan has this year I will have to talk to my family from Man and see what Logan does have.
  6. HC is good but may I remind you that a single A school played with them pretty well last week. Pikeville is good this year no doubt. But if HC is a legit top 5 team they should ahve walked over them early and often. They was only up on Pikeville 14 to 0 at halftime. And Pikevilles Line whipped HC all day. So if HC is going to make a run they will have to get into gear on the line. They are skilled enuff to go along ways with their skilled players. But Trinity, Male, or St X would tear their lines apart.
  7. Here is what I think Coach Haywood was seeing in the decision to go for 2. If we get it game over we win. But if we dont what will it hurt because this isnt a district game. I believe if it was a district or playoff game we would ahve went to overtime 2 because Ashland was very tired especialy on D. One thing I will say to Ashland going into the Rusell game is they need to improve on their speed on Dline. Belfry had their sucess on alot of miss direction plays and the Dline couldnt catch up to it. The wing T lives off of that so Ashland needs to practice that alot this week.
  8. Its ok we still had our chances that wasnt the ball game for us, mistakes was. But we have a young team and for a young team to take any Ashland team to overtime at Putman did a good job. Belfry is as strong as ever just give them some time. Atleast I believe they are lol.
  9. Yeah Matewan isnt what they usualy are this year. Honestly 1a football in WV is weaker than alot of ky football period. But Matewan isnt tuff as they once was. Especialy this year they have a real weak secondary. Their Coach was extremely worried about teams passing on him this year.
  10. The punt return was a holding call. Maybe it was the first big run we had inside the 10 that was the other block in the back but I thought that was holding also. The first 2 were obvious but the last one wasnt.
  11. Two called back. And one called back that was ran inside the 20. But to be fair only one of them was a really bad call but it was hurtful to us. The clip we got called back for we did clip and we shouldnt have (he was done broke free). But they was no holding on the punt return. That was so bad Coach Haywood even got a penalty. But that wasnt reason we lost the game. We came out very flat and that will cost you for one. We missed alot of tackles we should have had and still dropped the ball on the ground. Belfry will be tuff by the years end and will be hard to stop on offense before its over. Really we mostly stopped ourself and most Tomcat fans will agree with me on that. Also big kudos to May. He keeps getting better and better. The Punt Return he got called back was simply amazing. He broke free when I thought he was stuffed. As far as the going for the win I liked it. I would have defintley went for it. I would have ran May at them but I understand his thinking by not giving it to him. But Ashland was thinking that 2 I guess. But overall it was a great football game. Both teams still making alot of mistakes but its only week 2. Belfry will seriously be hard to beat by the season end when the offense has a little bit more experience out there. Also does Dustin remind anyone of Doug Howard by the way he breaks free all the time.
  12. First good luck to NCC. They are a classy program and I wish them the best. As for their passing game being down I dunno about that. There qb threw the ball pretty well if you ask me. Id love to have him on my team. Belfry just had a really good defense. NCC was big and strong on the lines so they will be ok.
  13. You missed a good Pike County Bowl. Beside for SV/Phelps they were all pretty good games. Both nights had two heart stopping games. One of them involving Pike Central who is one of your fav teams if Im not mistaking. Then this game was so great. Teach you to stay at home haha. Also this story was pretty cool we talked with a coach from virginia who had scrimaged over in West Virginia at Williamson I think. He had heard about Belfry and stopped and watched the game. When he left he said it was 2 of the best teams he has watched and one of the best atmospheres hes ever been in. That says alot for Belfry comming from another coach.
  14. Dad of a Dawg I was just comparing their styles of a scrimage. I know Coach Jim my family is very good friend with him. I like him alot and he is a good coach and works his kids very hard. But sometimes a coach needs to not run their mouth so much and coach. I remember playing against SC it was the first time we played them in 98 the ref came to Coach Haywood who was standing beside me and was like I dread calling this game and listening to Jim wine and cry over everything. Its ok sometimes and its part of who he is but he does do it a lil to much. This is comming from a person (me) who respects JC alot and wishes Belfry could get something in the future with them. I like Jim alot but he is bad to wine at times lol (he also likes to brag haha). As far as him not being compared to Coach Haywood. Accomploshment wise I totaly agree with you. Not many coaches can be compared to him. But I can see Coach Matney one day being like Coach Haywood ( a legend in the game). ALso Im sure he has some type of crazy motivation behind his rambling. But what they need to do is focus on getting better each day and if they can do that they just might make a really strong (regional title) run. Good luck to JC though hopefully we will get something with you guys down the road.
  15. I didnt read allt he pages to see if anyone responded to this but Im going to some up what Coach Haywood told his players before the scrimage game this year. He said look at them comming out there with game uniforms on jumping up and down. He told his players this is a game to JC. He then told them its not to Belfry and dont take it that way. He laffed and told them it isnt the super bowl. JC is a good team but to automatcialy say theyd beat Belfry cause they did in a scrimage isnt right. JC threw all over the field and everyone said our secondary was bad. But look what they did Friday night ina real game. Also Coach Haywood dont bother to scout out JC before a scrimage. In a real game he would no every move they make who is going to make it and when they will make it. They are a big difference between a scrimage and a game. And if anyone knows the 2 coaches personaly like I do then they would know that for a fact by their personalities alone.
  16. I agree with you but Belfry shot theirself in the foot alot also. We had so many dropped snaps and false starts. We was always pushing our offense back and busting plays with those mistakes and with Belfrys Offense that is crucial. We also had the ball down in field goal range and fumbled on 3rd down I believe it was close to the end of the 3rd. Both teams made those mistakes but its only the first game of the year. I believe these two teams are pretty evenly matched and both have alot to look forward to. Both teams are very good, play hard, well coached, and has alot of class. That sounds like 2 very bright seasons to me.
  17. No it was not nice and not classy. The trick play on the 2 point conversion really got me mad. They arent improved they are worse than last year. I thought until seeing this game they would get the 4th seed and they still may depending on PC. But I doubt it. They will get theirs though from Pburg prolly. I mean to leave yoru starters on the field and runt hat wide open is uncalled for.
  18. Yeah not a knock to NCC at all on this game. Belfry has a really quick defense. I said earlier our speed on defense would be the difference in the game and I believe it was on the Dline. Belfrys offense will come around more each game. NCC has a wonderful defense plus our jitters, fumbles, and penalties dont equal alot of points. These two teams are very evenly matched and maybe it isnt the fact that NCC is down but maybe Belfry is good. Also I believe that was the best pass defense Ive seen Belfry have in a while. Our defense isnt going to give up alot of points this year. Also my hat goes off to NCC you guys are filled with class and a great team. I said after the game they are nothing like seeing two classy teams all hugging each other after a hard fought game.
  19. From what I seen last year their defense doesnt play to Belfrys disadvantage. They are excellent on defense but if your talking bout the weakness that really showed against Breathitt then no I didnt see that last year when I saw them play. To another poster who was talking about speed from what I heard this Belfry team is fairly quick. The coaches told me they thought they was quicker than they had been in a while. That is talking more about the line and defense I think than the backfield. From waht I understand Coach Haywood said that these two teams are very evenly matched and it is going to be a battle all the way through.
  20. Has anyone given much thought to this? Friday night just think of how 2 great of coaches will be against each other. In my opionion 2 out of the top 5 of active coaches. It will be a great match up of tow classy guys. I was wondering will this be the most wins total by 2 coaches in the same game in the history of the state?
  21. I wasnt there but I heard the Varsity score was Belfry 5 TD's to Hazard 2. That isnt much to get excited about Belfry beating you by that in a scrimage. But I wasnt there so Im just going by what I heard. I will defintly take Watusi word for it because he is probably the most honest and unbiased Belfry fan I have seen.
  22. I dont get why people are getting so upset with Belfry fans calling it a practice. That is even what Coach Haywood will call it. Belfry has played some close scrimage games to teams that havent won a game before. And Haywood does run alot of players in and out and he did against the JC game. And he didnt really run what really works for Belfry but instead stuck to what needed improvement. They are no reason to show what works real well to a bunch of scouts at the game. Most JC fans know we will be tuff and about everyone else knows it to. JC has a good team this year and Jim is creating the excitment that he hoped to create and I wish him nothing but the best. But Jim and Coach Haywood does look at a scrimage 2 different ways and that shows as a result. Thats why Haywood will only do the 10 plays a piece scrimage, he dont want to turn it into a score competition but rather a practice.
  23. The trickory they ran I didnt like so much but I understood why he did it. The lines were lacking strength wise and if you cant outmuscle them then you got to fool them somehow. But with a disciplined team that dont work. Pikeville could have been a major contender in 1a last year if they had some strength on the line. It costed them the two games I watched them (NCC and Belfry) I heard they have bulked though and that is a good thing I hope they win a state championship and only have one loss and thats to Belfry. However I dont know their schedule but I do see a loss to HC and Belfry but they win the region and face NCC. Good luck over in Pikeville guys.
  24. One thing is Belfry never really wants to show much of what they are going to do on offense to opposing scouts there and use it as a practice to improve. Matney approaches it as a game and beating Belfry. Which is good for them I guess to help build JC confidence because to be a winning team you have to have that winning attitude. They are starting to develop that and I say Jim wanted to use this scrimage to develop it a little bit more.
