Diamond Dandy, how many people are you trying to insult in one thread? You are already up to about 5 BGP'ers. Given that most people know who you are, I'm sure your post is being talked about at Ryle games (trust me... it is), and the total is much higher than 5. You must not be concerned about who you offend, but I bet your son is embarassed by it. There were three or four "seeing-eye singles" but most were solid base hits. The initial pitcher was throwing well, but Boone hit like they were the NY Yankees. Farris has several hits including a bomb in the last inning off the last and final reliever the Scott put on the mound. I also agree that Scott will bounce back. No more than three days ago I made the comment that Cov Cath, Beechwood and Ryle were the top teams, but in comes Boone that has just really impressed me. It is going to be a very interesting post season.

He is a workhorse, and after the team giving up 14 runs before the second out of the game was recorded, he continued to hustle, blocking every pitch in the dirt :irked: , keeping runners from getting too big of a lead. No doubt he picked up a few bruises last night. This kid will be playing somewhere at the next level. :thumb: :thumb: I wish him good luck. Between him and Boone's Cory Farris, it was like watching a catchers clinic behind the plate.

No, Friday night, St. Henry and Beechwood go at it in the final. St. Henry beat Newport in the first semi-final game tonight.... I believe 12-0.

I agree, but only because the runner would have been running due to two outs at the time of the blooper (as someone stated earlier).

I thought the 5th region officials did a fine job. They were completely independent of all the personalities of the coaches and players and called the games very well. This is coming from a 9th region official. An example is Duran Jefferson should have gotten a technical in the district finals late in the game for getting in the face of the most respected official in the ninth region, but didn't. Also, Coach Listerman was a completely different person on the sidelines durng the regional. I respect coach Listerman a ton, but he also knows that the 9th region officials are reluctant to give coaches T's due to ratings. Coach L didn't have that privelege during regional because he didn't know how the 5th region officials would respond. Great job by Coach L for knowing when to not push the issue. Overall, fabulous job by the 5th region officials. Also, this switching of officials is a great idea and I hope they continue to do this. Only bad thing is the travel, especially during the week. They need to cap the distance that officials have to travel. Driving 2-3 hours to work a game is a little much.

For the record... what you just gave was an opinion... not a fact.!!!

I would hope they are a little biased. Mark has a son that I believe is at Cov Cath (he may not be that old yet), and his daughter was playing for Notre Dame as a freshman this year before going down with a torn ACL.

Does anyone else find it outrageous that they are playing this district at Holy Cross' gym?? 3 of the best matchups and potentially biggest crowd of the 2006 post-season will be the 3 big games in this district. I realize that HC is taking thier turn to host, but they could move this to Thomas More, Holmes, NKU or somewhere that they can take advantage of the huge gate opportunity. They could make enough money in gate to build HC a new gym. I plan on getting there @ 6 hours in advance and hope to get in the before it is sold out. That might not be early enough though.

Was this thread started by a parent of a player that is on the team? This is an odd thread that I have a feeling has an ulterior motive. If not, it makes you suspect something is up. Maybe a parent of a kid that isn't getting any PT, and trying to show the coach the the BGP'ers think he is a good player. Come on... There is a good chance that some of these guys will be playing varsity. The AABC team you are referring to is the KY Kids, and you are correct, they were very good. They won nationals 2 or 3 years ago in thier age group, and the have been exposed to some top notch coaching (Bill Holocher, Rich Maile, Mike Shover and a couple others). There are a couple other HS's that will benefit from having players from this team. The all region team in 4 years will look like a roster from this team.

Interesting, because we also always hear about how the fans hate the 3 man refereeing crews because the make too many calls. We'll never please everybody.!!! Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!

Doesn't matter how good they actually are. They have a history of being good, which is intimidating to the other teams. Then add a splendid coach and a "backyard baseball" field!!!.... They will do just fine.

I can't wait. I just told my wife this evening that she probably won't see me for a few weeks because there is going to be a good prep basketball game every night of the week in NKY for two weeks. Probably not a bright thing to tell her on Valentines Day. :argue: :argue:

I agree he plays hard, but he had a third in the Holmes vs. Highlands game. He may not have gotten a technical in that game. He was just trash talking the whole game. This stuff also takes him out of his game. He disappeared for a while in the Holmes game. Probably preoccuppied with the trash talking. As an official, I would say they are forced to keep an eye on him because a kid that responds the way he does to any physical play, is a kid that could explode and take a cheap shot at someone. Not saying he would, but he is the stereotype. The play at Cov Cath was just good hustle on the CC players part diving for a ball when he took Guidulgi's legs out, but Guidulgi got up went after him. The CC kid didn't deserve a technical in that case... he deserved kudo's for good hustle. The officials gave them a double technical to send a message to both teams that they weren't going to tolerate the garbage.

I hear this concern expressed quite a bit. There is a valid scenario for this. The official go to the locker room at half time and talk about what they need to tighten up on and what the need to back off of. If the game is getting too physical, the officials can loose control of the game pretty easy (Holmes vs. Highlands for example). If they don't start calling it tighter, they could end up with a brawl if they are not careful. In the Holmes vs. Highlands game the officials did a good job of keeping control of that game, even though they were outnumbered being a 2 man crew. I do understand the inconsistency of this and that the players get used to banging, then in the second half they get called for it. I guess this is why they get 5 fouls and not 1. I do have one question. How many times is Guidugli going to get called for a technical for getting in someone's grill after he gets fouled without Schlarman sitting him down and telling him to take a chill pill. He is a great player, but he needs to understand that basketball is a contact sport. If he doesn't like it, go play tennis. :fight: :fight:

In the ninth region, it is a combination. 1. The coaches rate the officials. 2. The evaluators rate the officials (these are veteran officials that go out and observe other officials). 3. The assignor rates the officials. Whe it comes to state rankings, they have evaluators from NFHS go to tournaments like the Boys and Girls All "A", and the regionals are done by evaluators from other regions, and the girls and boys state tournaments.

This is one of the theories as to why Highlands likes 2 man officiating crews. They play physical.
