Earned Run or Not?

Featured Replies

No outs.

Batter singles - goes to 2nd on error.

Next batter sacrifices runner to 3rd.

Next batter walks.

Next batter pops out.

Next batter hits blooper that falls into short right field - runner on 3rd scores.

Earned run or not?

Lets move this to the 'pro sports' section for more opinions.

Mods - please close this thread.

There are several instances where the official scorer makes a judgement call on earned runs. If he feels as though the run would have scored without the error and can rule it as an earned run.

I say it is an earned run because the runner would have moved to 2nd on the sac and would be in scoring position at the time of the blooper to right.

But its pretty hard to score from second on a short blooper in right field as the scenerio states, especially if it appears that the right field might have a play on the ball.

In this scenario there are two outs and the runner should be running all the way to the plate on any hit into the outfield whether he is on second or third base.

The official scorer has some discretion in that situation, although it sounds like it would probably be earned by the scenario described.

earned run.

earned run.

I agree, but only because the runner would have been running due to two outs at the time of the blooper (as someone stated earlier).
