  1. Congratulations to the St. Henry players that were also honored. These girls are very deserving of this honor and have represented St. Henry with class and dignity. These seniors (and the others) will be greatly missed.
  2. GET OVER the "Public vs. Private" issue already!!!!!!
  3. Any team who knocks off Assumption would be the rest of the fields hero. Somebody has got to do it, so may as well be NCC. in the first round. :flame: :flame:
  4. This is varsity volleyball, not recreational league. I give Yoon credit for his actions, but as NDA showed last night.... never count anyone out. St. Henry had a 20-10 lead at one point. Should St Henry. have put in the subs??? .... I don't think so!!! NDA rallied back to 24-22. Hmmmm.....
  5. This game was one of the most exciting games I have watched at the HS level. Congratulations to St. Henry. They peaked when it counted. SHDHS coaches should get plenty of credit for putting together a game plan that took advantage of the very few weaknesses NDA had. I'm sure the NDA girls are upset with the loss, but they have a great deal to be proud of. After getting beat the first game, they battled back and won the second game pretty convincingly. The third game, St. Henry had a 10 point lead at one time, and NDA fought back and made it a real "nail biter" getting within 2 points at 24-22 before St. Henry took game point. Both teams showed alot of class as they are all good friends. Many of the girls on these two teams will be suiting up again as teammates as club season starts next month. Looking forward to a couple more years of these types of battles. Congrats again to the Crusaders..... :dancingpa :dancingpa
  6. The lucky winner gets the glamour of the Regional championship trophy and the glory of playing against an Assumption team that is having a down year :D (they were #1 in the country last year, and the plummeted down to number 2 in the country this year. Bet Ron isn't happy about that.  )
  7. Excellent match played by both teams. Both teams played very hard. Also great to see all the friendships and comraderie between the NDA and SHDHS players. Opponents on the floor, but a great deal of respect and friendships off the floor. Congrats to NDA.
  8. GOOD volleyball players are used to playing pool play over a weekend. This is the standard format for club volleyball tournaments. You could never do this with Football or basketball. Baseball would be a possibility. Many club baseball tournaments are played this way. For Volleyball, I think they need a facility bigger than OVVC though (in terms of spectator room). And better airconditioned. It was a sauna in there a couple weeks ago at the LIVT. I think that watching GOOD volleyball, is in my opinion the best spectator sport out there. If they formatted the state tournament this way, I would go out and buy a new real comfortable sling chair, and get there early and watch volleyball all day. Regardless of whether my daughter's team was involved.
  9. St. Henry went 25-18, 25-20, 25-15 If Ron Kordes's blook pressure means anything, he was pretty upset as St. Henry had leads in both the first and second game before Assumption pulled out victories. Ron demands quite a bit from his players, and seems to get it. They have an outside hitter (#14) to replace Whitney Roth (last years State Tournament MVP) that is similarly talented. I'd love to know her vertical jump. Assumptions only loss was to the number one team in the country (Mira Costa, CA). They lost the first of three games to Sacred Heart, and lost 2 out of 5 to Muncie (IN).
  10. NKY Volleyball stats leaders were in the KY Post today, but NDA's stats were noticably absent.
  11. I know last year a very good volleyball player that partially tore her ACL in May, and was not back until January. That is approximately 8 months. If this player has a similar recovery, that would bring her back @ May. Hopefully her recovery is cautiously expedited. Do you know... did she have a complete tear (meaning they had to do a graft or take a ligament from a cadaver), or did she just have a partial tear? Makes a big difference in the recovery time. Hopefully she only had a partial tear.
  12. I knew several things when I read your original post.... and used the terminology "beat down" 1. You have been watching the recent special on the Best Da-mn Sports Show Period... 50 greatest "beat downs". great show, I recommend it to anyone that enjoys boxing or a good scrappin' 2. I knew you were going to hit a nerve with one of the NDA faithful. 3-1 in a match may or may not have been a "beat down". From the looks of the scores, it was a pretty tight match as I had expected. I know quite a few of the girls on NDA's team this year, and the impression is that they are on a mission to prove that they belong on the top of the 9th region. I don't mean top two, they will settle for nothing but the top 1. They are believed to be the favorite and have given nobody any reason to doubt them. Additionally, NDA (and St. Henry) have traditionally scheduled the top schools from outside the region so that they can experience some of the best talent in the country. If you do that enough times, you are eventually going to experience a "beat down". (there is that expression again). I don't think NDA is going to get a beat down from anyone in the next couple years. They may dish a few out, though.
  13. With the new changes to KHSAA guidleines, pulling players up from 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade may get even tougher. If your child plays for Beechwood High School (for example), as an 8th grader... it seems like such an honor. Which it is!!! However, if that child then decides to go to a different high school as a Freshman (Villa, Notre Dame, etc), they must sit out 1 season. Not sure of all the specifics (nor do I care to look them up). They may need to have played Varsity as an 8th grader. But it certainly takes a situation where an 8th grader should be honored to be asked to step up to the high school team, and turns it into a situation where you need an attorney to work through all the rules and regulations.  I'm glad my youngest child is in high school already and we have no intentions of transferring schools.
  14. This is the most self-incriminating question I have seen posted. The reason that we chose to send our kids to private schools has nothing to do with athletics. It has to do with any number of the following: 1. Drop out rate. Take a look at the drop out rate of public vs private schools. 2. ACT and SAT scores. Look at the average ACT and SAT scores of the schools. It will make you sick. 3. Percentage of students receiving scholarships. - Again, will make you sick. 4. Parental involvement. - My sisten teaches at a public school in the same district in which my children go to private school. When my sister's school conducts a "meet the teacher" night, she only has 2 or 3 parents out of 22 children show up. When we go to the meet the teacher night at the private school that my child goes to, you are actually assigned a time to meet each teacher so that there is not huge lines. I'm guessing that 90%+ of the students at the private school have one (if not both) of thier parents show up. 5. Being held back in classes - I know from years past, my son (in a private school) hung out with a boy two years older than him from the local public school. My son's math class in 5th grade was learning the same thing that his buddy in the public school was learning in 7th grade math. What would you rather have when your child graduates from high school and gets ready for college. A child that is learning 12th grade math, or 10th grade math. I know my preference. So the fact that we choose to send our children to private schools, most of the time has nothing to do with the athletics. We set priorities, and instead of using $5,000 each year to join a country club, or buy more expensive cars, etc... we decided to invest in our childs future. Ask yourself what your priorities are......
  15. The difference is if you have been held back since getting into high school. I know of one player that was held back after enrolling in high school, and he DID NOT gain a year of eligibility. He has accepted the fact that he was held back for academic and maturity reasons (not athletic benefit), and he also accepts that he is only eligible for a total of 4 years once he started High School. Sounds like his "entourage" is a little more grounded than Walkers.
  16. I know the family very well, and it was quite difficult. Also, she got CUT at NDA so there is no issue of recruiting and stealing a player from another school. You said it best when you said she is a talented player, but at a school with extremely talented players around her, including some that are younger than her (sophomores). I hated to see this happen to Jessica, but she will have a great two years at Holy Cross and will have experienced a life lesson. Also, NDA had to sign a release and they were more than willing to give her the opportunity to play somewhere else. They hated to see her go because she is a great kid, but understand her position. I wish Jessica all the luck in the world. Tough situation for a 16 year old who just got finished with a great club season to have this happen.
  17. Junior Stacy Kolkmeyer (sp?) was the other setter. Both played very well.
  18. Was this a golf match, or a baseball game.  Come on guys. I could see if they were talking dirty about the batters girlfriend, but "Batter, Batter, Batter" is something that kids are taught in T-ball. Haven't you ever heard a coach say "Come on infield, lets hear some chatter". Keeps kids head in the game.
  19. St. Henry had thier first match of the season tonight against Louisville Mercy. Mercy looked sharp, and beat St. Henry in 3-1 (best of 5) Mercy did a tremendous job blocking. St. Henry played well (from a parents point of view). The passed well, set well and hit well, but Mercy did a tremendous job blocking. Mercy also has quite a few weapons when it comes to hitting. Great leapers. They were hitting over the top of St. Henry's blocks quite often. Not a bad first match for St. Henry. Mercy is probably considered one of the top three teams in the state. St. Henry will continue to gell with only one starter with significant varsity playing time (Neimer). St. Henry also switched to running a 6-2 offense instead of a 5-1 just recently.
  20. I just sent a PM with the information on the league.
  21. I guess not!!!!! :irked: :irked:
  22. This whole coaching situation reminds me of a gift exchange game that my family plays are Christmas time called "Steal the gift". One person opens a gift (coach takes a job). The next person that needs a gift can either steal the gift that the previous person got, or open a new one.. and so on. Does anyone else see the resemblance here..... :D
  23. Your PM quota has been exceeded. I tried PM'ing it to you and it would not let me.
  24. Send a PM to me and I can give you information for a contact at Bluegrass Baseball Club.
