  1. There is a fall ball league for high school age teams in NKY this year. If you need information on this league, let me know. I received a flier and registration form via email from the director. I can pass along his information.
  2. CONFIRMED!!!! The "strong transfer" is Emily Doering (sp?) from Mt. Notre Dame. She is a soon to be junior and is a strong outside hitter. She is on varsity this year and will probably be the starting OH spot.
  3. For the record, Keener doesn't run SOAS. Keener simply organizes a small number of the events that are held at SOAS. He does work there, but to say he runs SOAS is a bit of an overstatement.
  4. I think that the Ryle program has the potential to be prestigous and in order to reach thier potential... Terry Trame is NOT the answer IMO. Coach Faust at SHDHS is a more probable candidate. Another person that I would love to see put his name in the hat is last year's JV coach from Cov Cath. His name is on the tip of my tongue, but I can't think of it. Young guy, great repore` with players, and ready for a Head Coaching job. For all I know, he may not even be interested. Should be interesting to see what happens.....
  5. Just a couple of facts for the record. 1. Danville has had FOUR baseball ejections this year. They aren't the angels you are making them out to be. 2. Danville only has 2 other ejections for the entire school year from any sport. One in soccer and one in basketball. 3. To my knowledge, the umpire that tossed the catcher has zero ejections on the year before this one. He also officiates basketball. Out of 35-40 basketball and 35-40 baseball games, he has one ejection. Doesn't sound like he has a quick trigger. 4. Lefty, you were not on the field, so I am guessing that you are taking the side of the player or coach that told you that the umpire initiated the conversation. Likely, they are going to tell you the story that they want you to here. I know the umpire and he has told me the other side of the story saying that the player was cussing at him, saying to him that it was a bunch of "BS" that the game is going the way it is going. The ump told him to "cool it... or else". The player was too immature to heed the warning and gave another barrage of profanity. Then got tossed. That is the umpires side of the story. Now that we know both side.... it is kinda a tossup. Given that Danville has 4 ejections from one sport in one year, I know where my beliefs will fall. Danville, have a good summer.
  6. Better rethink McLane returning.... rumors are flying. :sssh:
  7. See the thread about that game. It has 15 or twenty different opinions before KYFEDUMP qoutes the rule book to prove there is nothing wrong with what the runner did.
  8. I am betting on the "Hump". Humphrey should be throwing for Ryle.
  9. The reason the times were not staggered was because they try to make sure that all games are played on the same day. This way, no team is at an advantage/disadvantage when it comes to days rest. For example: If the St. Henry /Villa game had been played at 1pm and the Beechwood Highlands game at 5pm, there is a small chance that the St. Henry/Villa game would get played and then a storm hit and cancel the Beechwood Villa game. This would cause St. Henry to gain an advantage because going into the semi's thier pitching staff would have an additional days rest vs. Beechwood. Ironically, if we had gotten enough rain in Union to cancel the regional game being played at Ryle, but no rain at all in Kenton or Campbell counties, ALL FOUR GAMES would have been cancelled to keep them on the same "Rest" schedule. That's just the way they do it.
  10. Statman, the easiest way to describe the rule is that a force out only applies to being forced to the next base. It is not considered a force out when you are forced to retreat back to a bag. It would be easy to think so because he is being forced to go back and tag up, but for the purpose of the rule, and the run scoring or not, this is not considered a force out. Run scores !!!
  11. Ironically, I talked to "Mr. Rolf" about why he did that game since his daughter is a student at St. Henry. The reason was because his "day job" only allows his to do later games (7pm vs. 5pm games). Therefore, he was available for the 7pm game while no other umpires were available. If "Mr Rolf" han not done that game, the game would not have had a second umpire. Also, when Walt came down the line after Maclaine slid into home and got tagged by Luke Maley, according to the umpire, the first words out of Walt's mouth were "He never got to the plate... did he??". Walt must have seen the same thing the ump saw, which obviously, you would not have seen from directly behind the backstop, since Maclaine slid to the front side of the plate. Lastly, I know Mr. Rolf pretty well and he has just as many ties to Cov Cath folks (if not more) than he does to St. Henry folks. He admitted that he shouldn't be doing the game at all (due to ties with both teams), but the KHSAA does not allow varsity games to go with only 1 umpire, and this game would have been cancelled had he not been able to work the game. Interesting once you hear the .... rest of the story!!!!! Overall great game though. Great sportsmanship, great atmosphere, great playmaking, blah blah blah..... This game (St. Henry vs. Cov Cath) what a great setting for high school baseball.
  12. Hey, KYDEFUMP... :sssh: :sssh: lets play the quite game.... remember that from when you were a kid..... and please realize when you have dug yourself too deep. You are making the rest of the umps look bad.
  13. Badcat, I don't think anyone is knocking you for asking, especially if you do it in a respectful manner. I think Hilltopper got some people's ire up when he talked about it being your responsibility to question the umpires rulings. He made it sound like he does it frequently, whether he knows the rules or not. Most umpires will happily explain a rule in between innings. Especially when they know what they are talking about.
  14. I don't have any problem with you questioning a rule that you know. This one you didn't, so questioning it only made one person look like a "fool". That is my last word.... enjoy your holiday weekend!!!:dancingpa
  15. Hilltopper, read Mack the Knife's response. He is 100% correct, and you are 100% incorrect. It is only a force play when a runner is being forced to advance to the next bag, not when they are being forced to go back and tag a bag. This is why coaches should not act like a fool and question the umpire. Most of them do not know the rules very well. The umpires do.....!!!! I am a veteran umpire and am very involved in youth baseball, and the biggest problem with youth sports is so-called responsible coaches that do not know the rules and also don't realize that they are supposed to be setting a good example. We wonder why kids question authority at every opportunity. I am amazed that you even posted your response!!:irked: :irked:
  16. As far as I'm concerned, there were too many people behind home plate.
  17. 5pm Wednesday. Cov Cath vs. Beechwood, at Meinken Field.:fight: :fight:
  18. I know exactly why the job is now open. It is in no way related to a booster, board member, nepotism, or any other exciting "gossipable" reason. Actually the reason is quite boring. It in no way is a negative mark on the old coach, nor is it any of those other things people like to gossip about. It also had nothing to do with his coaching ability or the success of the program. It had nothing to do with a player, a student or another faculty member. (I'm trying to eliminate all the exciting reasons people may come up with) because I am not at liberty to say the reason, but it really not important nor exciting. Sorry!!!
  19. I agree, Krumps is much too respected of a coach. Ironically, if Meyerhoff had done this, not as many people would be defending him, although I still don't think any coach would think of this given they were losing heavily up until the last couple innings, and the pitcher got put in due to injury. Myerhoff, loves to play mental games, but I still don't think even HE would do this on purpose. I definitely don't think Krumps did. Krumps is probalby pretty embarassed by the whole situation.
  20. not sure. There is an issue with number of umps to work all of it, since they will try to have 2 man crews on Frosh and JV tourneys.
  21. It stinks even worse for the following: Freshman tournament is this week. JV Tournament starts this weekend. Coach Conner Varsity Tournament is to be held this weekend.
  22. If you look at the weather forecast, it looks like mother nature will take care of some of those cancellations for them. Wednesday - Strong Storms :irked: Thursday - Afternoon PM Showers/Wind :irked: :irked: Friday - Showers :irked: :irked: :irked: Saturday - Thunderstorms  Sunday - Showers
  23. You are correct. And this should be covered in ground rules. This is just like a coach sitting on a bucket outside the dugout. He knows that if he gets hit, it is double jeopardy, meaning... if they are on offense, the runners go back, if they are on defense, the runners advance....
  24. No offense, but I think you are making a big deal out of something that most coaches would have done. Varsity coaches love an opportunity to only throw one pitcher, give him an opportunity for a complete game, gain some confidence, etc... I'll bet Lloyd's coaches don't have any problem with this, nor would most fans IMO. I'm just sorry to hear Lloyd's team is having this much trouble. Years ago, they were a team to reckon with. They have fallen upon some hard times the past few years.
  25. I heard you had a pretty intersting play in your game last night. This was a catch/nocatch call. I got a good laugh when the situation was explained to me.
