I don't know if Russell will score, Russell's offense is struggling and Ashland's defense is from what I understand fairly dominant, however, I'm not convinced Ashland's offense will put up many points either. My heart says Russell figures out a way to get it done, but my head is saying 16-7 Ashland.

Hasn't been willing? I think it was more of a scheduling issue than willingness.

Who is quarterbacking for Russell?

Since all the errors were mentioned, I think it's important to mention a couple things. One, it was a wet field and rained some during the game. Not the best of playing conditions. John Scott Carver hit the ball extremely well for Raceland, and Storm Burgess hit 3 shots of the fence for Russell. So it wasn't entirely like runs were just handed out

Didn't Russell already beat Elliott Co once this year? Post season is a new ballgame, but obviously if it is Russell and Elliott on Thursday it should be a good game.

It was nice to see Ferg receive a standing ovation from not only the Elliott County fans, but the Russell fans as well. Great accomplishment for him.

This is one the Devils should win, but its difficult for a young team to learn how to win. I've seen this a couple times this year with them. This has got to be the hardest playing and most dangerous 3 win team in the state.

Is this game for sure? I heard last night it was a maybe.

I have a question that I can't believe hasn't been addressed? Why didn't Ashland play power ball with Bonner? Russell couldn't have stopped him. He seems like Russell came out quick and made some three's and lured Ashland into a three point shooting contest. I would have got Bonner the ball on every trip, he would have scored 30 and fouled out a few Devils in the process. But that's just a thought. Great win for the Devils and they earned this win. Learning how to win is important for a young team and this win will help them down the road.

This was one of the best games I have seen this year. Very physical, very fast paced. The Ferguson girls for EC had close to 50 of their teams 62 points. Russell's scoring was a little more balanced with Simpson leading the way I believe with around 15. Parsley ended up with about 12. Fortman knocked down I believe 3 threes and Cassidy had a couple as well. Jenny Ferguson came off the bench for 6 points or so. Brianna Gullett also had some big baskets. Fun game to watch.

This Russell team seems out of sorts this year.

How did Russell play?

I like the B/G Doubleheaders or is that G/B doubleheaders? In either case I think it gives fans an opportunity to see both varsity teams. Some that would normally only watch one or the other. However, Our school only has one scheduled. If KHSAA mandates Girls play 2nd in at least half of the scheduled DH, what's half of one?

She is a fantastic player and fun to watch.

Just because a defensive player is in the air, doesn't mean its a foul. If he has position, he owns from the floor straight up to the ceiling. Defensive guys can jump. Totally legal. That being said, I thought it was a good no call.

Actually the two coaches decided to not count fouls. They said, if they had any players just hacking away they would take them out. Knipp didn't get what would have been his 5th foul until about 2 minutes left.

I agree no exceptional ball handlers but several that can handle the ball solid enough that they shouldn't struggle again a press especially if they pass the ball instead of one guy trying to dribble out of the press. gotta learn to move without the ball and use their team speed to get open and move it down the court. Should be able break a press without the ball touching the floor.

Ball handling is not a weakness for this Russell team. They basically play 10 guards. They do have a couple big kids that Coach Kidwell can bring along to bang down low, but I think that would be primarily to help on the boards against teams with a big inside presence. I'm surprised they struggled a little last night with their press offense. But I'm sure coach will fix that. Defense has to get tighter. And they missed too many free throws. When you have a guard heavy team, generally FTs are a strength. Russell's strength is Hustle. Not gonna be many teams out hustle them. There's not a lot of talent difference between kids 3-10 so as coach figures out the rotations they could wear some teams down. As for starting an 8th grader...No he's not OJ, but hes not a typical 8th grader either. Moving him to SG will help him a lot. He can stroke the ball. This Russell team will be fun to watch develop. They'll take their lumps for sure, but I could anticipate them to be a dangerous team to play because they play so hard and will never give up. It'll be much more fun to watch.
