Russell 80 Bracken Co 73 (Russell panorama)

What format did they use? Any word on who looked good?

Even though pre-season,not a good start for the Polar Bears, considering all of the talk about how bad Russell was. Think the Bears scrimmaged West Union last week and also didn't fair very well. Lots of work ahead, youngsters have got to step up and mature early.

I believe Stapleton had 29 for Russell. You can't leave him open! Apparently the Bears never picked up on this.

Kyle Skaggs and Tanner Alexander shot well also.

PJ Goble played well off the bench and could crack the starting lineup before long.

Congrats to the Devils and Coach Kidwell!:thumb:

Looks like Coach Kidwell has the Devils going in the right direction. Congrats!

Russell lead by 20 and the bears fought back.

My Polar bears will be OK. It's only a scrimmage. We've got a long way to go.

Has Russell improved thaat much, or is Bracken County that weak?

Russell has improved, but they got a long way to go. Stapleton and Skaggs shot real well, but the Devils as a team must get way stronger to compete with any above average team, shots don't always fall.

I think that's all you can ask for.

I agree, just not wanting the Devil faithful expecting miracles! Everyone stay together as Coach Kidwell will get it done, but it takes time!

It sounds like the success of the Russell team this year hinges around the shooting of Skaggs and Stapleton. Would that be a correct assumption? I didn't make it to the scrimmage last night, but just from looking at the roster and from what I saw last year, it doesn't appear Russell will have any inside game to speak of. Are there any other players who might surprise?

I think you are right that Coach Kidwell will do a great job with what they have to work with. When you have an 8th grader not named O.J. Mayo starting at point guard, though, that should be enough to tell you to keep expectations low! It should be fun to watch this year, though, as long as they hustle, shoot the 3's, and try to play solid defense. I just want to see them compete the best they can. Win or lose, that will at least make it fun and entertaining to watch.

One comment that I saw on another site troubled me a bit. It was that they are weak at ballhandling. Seeing as how they don't have much size or strength, I would think strong ballhandling would be a necessity!

Skaggs is not the point guard.

Skaggs is not the point guard.

Wasn't he the point guard most of last year? Who is the point guard?

No. Scotty Ross(I believe that's his last name) is the starting point guard. Grant McKenzie did a solid job in backing him up as well.
