  1. :idunno: No, I do not personally know him but I do know who he is.:Blackalien: Lol He has mouthed off regarding Coach Dodd one too many times to suit me. Do you get the feeling that I might like to get to know him just a tad better? :sarcastic: Lol
  2. Ashland is his home town and there is no travel for recruiting. He still owns a home in Bellefonte and thought it was at least worth considering. He may not ever leave Nashville as he has a lot of family there. Also, NAIA, in my opinion doesn't pay that much difference and he loves teaching and coaching high school kids.
  3. Please, who are you trying to convince. I was at every Russell practice for 5 years as well as the games. I don't recall you ever being involved in one of our practices. Have a good life! I'm done here.:eyeonyou:
  4. Yep, That shows how well informed you are. A well thought out post with so much insight... At least you are making your post count rise. Here's another way for you to increase your posts. Create a duplicate...

  6. Ashland is looking for a youngster, it seems and Coach Dodd has two NAIA offers,: if he decides to leave Nashville. So everyone wins.
  7. Every school gets transfers. It's what you are able to do with them that matters.
  8. Coach Dodd is planning to coach another 10 years, at a minimum. This is his hometown and he had planned to retire to this area. He is not looking for a stepping stone as he is already an NAIA Hall Of Fame coach. He has found that he enjoys teaching high school kids the most. :thumb: He has been at Hillwood High School in Nashville since leaving Russell and finished this season at 20-4. At one point, they were ranked 4th in the state. They were upset in their district. And yes, he has applied...
  9. Just to throw this out, Ashland has the opportunity to hire the best coach available in Steve Dodd. He is a 73 graduate of Paul Blazer, an NAIA Hall Of Fame Coach and also coached at Russell for 6 years. Had it not been for an injury to Derek Sloane in the first minute of the 05 regional final, Russell would have beaten Rowan Co. He won it in 06 with his weakest team during this three year span and in 07 was a prohibitive favorite before top player Jon Vanhoose went down with a knee injury in the districts. Russell had already beaten Elliott Co bad twice during the regular season. This man can coach!!! I had decided to stay off this web site awhile back but I sure hate to see Ashland miss this chance. Coach Dodd still owns a home in Bellefonte. We have been best friends since 74 and no one knows him better than me. duck1220 Steve Adams
  10. :whistling::idunno: Transfers might be his only shot to win there in the near future. Best of luck to the new coach.
  11. If Conway is the selection and he is permitted to ask, I imagine he would want want Coach Kidwell on staff. But, the higher ups may also want to make a clean break from the old staff. I have heard several names mentioned, if Humphrey can't be lured away from his job. I just can't imagine Scott wanting to enter that hornet's nest though.
  12. It's the name I heard, if Humphrey turns it down. But hey, you probably have better sources there than I do at this point. Lol:cool:
  13. I'm hearing that former Russell Assistant Coach Jim Conway is the frontrunner.:idunno:
  14. I'm not here to argue any points on this. I just don't like calling coaches in to surprise them. I consider myself friends with both Coach Dodd and Coach Kidwell. By the way Spindoc, Coach Dodd would have won the region 3 years in a row if not for key injuries. Sloane went out in the first minute of the regional final against Rowan Co in 2005 with a dislocated right shoulder. Russell won the region in 2006 with probably the weakest team of a three year stretch. In 2007 Jon Vanhoose blew out his knee in the district which allowed Elliott Co to win the region. Russell had already beaten them big the two games they played earlier that season. In 2008, Coach Dodd returned two players that were in the top 13 from 2007. (no starters) They won three games. He did however start Kyle Skaggs as a 7th and 8th grader on the varsity to develop him and set the table for later. Hope to see all of you next season if my next back surgery helps.
  15. Thank you sir. My back has not allowed me to attend games the last few years but I did make it to the Ashland/Fairview game this week. I probably won't be around much longer because I don't want to post about teams without watching them.
  16. My guess is that they will look for an established Head Coach who is a proven winner. But hey, I've certainly been wrong before when trying to use the Ol Jedi Mind Trick on the Russell camp. Lol :taz::idunno: I have stayed off this board for some time now but this just makes me scratch my head. I thought given the connections Coach Kidwell had with certain administrators, that he would garner a much more favorable outcome that their previous coach, Steve Dodd. Best of luck to Coach Kidwell!
  17. Coach Dodd's Hillwood team was upset in the 1st round of the district on the other team's home floor. After leading by 13 in the 1st half, Hillwood couldn't hold on and lost by 3 points. I believe Hillwood finishes the season at 20-5. Congrats on the best ever season for a Hillwood team.
  18. Former Russell High School and NAIA Hall of Fame Coach Steve Dodd has his Hillwood High School team playing better than they have in the history of the school. The Hilltoppers are 18-4 and are ranked 29th in the state of Tennessee AAA. They had at one point in the season climbed to a ranking of #2 in the state before losing a couple of games. Congrats to Coach!!!:thumb:
  19. I haven't posted in some time but this, well it's just nuts. Ivan is one of the finest men that I've ever known. A true classless act on the part of the administration. They did Steve Dodd the same way, just a couple of years after winning the region in basketball for the first time since 1973. Ivan is a legend and I would love to see a petition submitted with several thousand names signed on his behalf.
  20. How we lookin now? lol I've still got Russell 6th, even though they'll have an absolute cakewalk through the district and should win 20 due to the competition. Again, I hope I'm wrong but the best I see is winning one @ Morehead. I hope Russell makes the Ol Duckster their poster boy, wins 30 and goes to state, unless they meet my Fairview Eagles in the region. lol I am a big Skaggs supporter, since I'm the one that pushed hard for him to start varsity as a 7th grader.
  21. 1. Fleming Co. 2. Rowan Co. 3. Ashland 4. Boyd Co. 5. East Carter 6. Russell :confused:I believe everyone has Russell rated way too high at this point. They could sneak up to 4 or 5 but I'll go on record that they will not win the region this year.
  22. Started since 7th grade. I have to say that I greatly influenced that decision, as unpopular as it was at the time.
  23. The 63rd District should be a walk in the park this year for the Devils. Greenup lost everyone. Lewis and Raceland will also be extremely weak.
