  1. Tough game to call for each team for a variety of reasons. But I'll take Hopkinsville in a hard fought one on the road againt the 1A Cardinals 28-21.
  2. This has got to be the most surprising score of the night.
  3. Poor showing for Hopkinsville. A Hoptown team that several experts claimed to be faster, more athletic, and stronger than the year before didn't get much done tonight. Congrats to Male for going on a long road trip and completely handling the Tigers.
  4. I agree about BG. It will be interesting to see how Lex Cath and Highlands matchup with St X the next couple of weeks and then maybe we'll have a good measuring stick for some of the contenders in 3A.
  5. The most insignificant thing in football is yards. The only this that matters is points.
  6. The big question is how did a downtrodden Daviess Co. score 26 on the Marshall defense that is supposed to be the strength of the team?
  7. East was very competitive with Paducah Tilghman. If I remember correctly, it was only 7-0 at the half.
  8. If Bowling Green is without their starting QB it is hard to pick the Purples. I'll take St X 21-10.
  9. Graves rolls in this one by as many as they choose.
  10. I agree with you. But I don't think this is gonna be your typical Warren East team this year or for the next few years. They have some talent and what appears to be some coaching stability for the first time in quite a while.
  11. I'll take Trigg on their home field and because Madisonville is on their 4th coaching staff in 4 years. Trigg 28-14
  12. I think Mercer will be a good football team, but I do not see them as a state championship calibar team simply because they merged with a Harrodsburg team that won 3 games last year against 3 bad teams. Mercer themselves won their first playoff game in over 20 years last year and if i'm not mistaken, graduated a pretty strong class of seniors. I'll be surprised if Mercer wins the region and i'll be even more shocked if they beat a Belfry or Russell to get to the state championship game.
  13. Danville by 2-3 TD's. Southwestern rarely wins games against programs with winning traditions.
  14. How sad. http://www.weht.com/Global/story.asp?S=5170805
  15. I'd be interested to know of the 41 states that crown more than 4 champions have a separate division, and in some cases 2-3 separate divisions, for private schools. Some very good points, but I think you're going to see the same old faces doing most of the winning only it will be even easier for them to win a championship.
  16. It doesn't really solve anything. It certainly doesn't address the problems in girls sports or other sports such as swimming, golf, soccer, and tennis.
  17. Name a class A school that has won the state basketball title before or since Paintsville. The past 5 Sweet 16 winners are J-town, S. Laurel, Warren central, Mason Co., Lex Cath. All of those are a far cry enrollment wise from Paintsville and I believe the competition gap will continue to get larger rather than smaller.
  18. The same discrepancies apply in other sports as they do in football IMHO. Where there is quantity...there is more quality. Do you really think year in and year out that paintsville's 6-8 players off the bench in either boys or girls hoops are equal to those at say.....4a Johnson Central even? Some years they may be, but more times than not the larger school is going to have the better players and better depth in every sport. I would be all for 6 classes in baseball, basketball, etc. Most other states have every other sport broken down into classes. Kentucky is behind the times in this way. 6 classes is way too many for football, but 1 class for basketball, baseball, etc. is absurd.
  19. I agree. It's an everybody get a trophy mentality. 220 schools with 6 classes is the epitome of watered down.
  20. I'm sure they will. It's Rockcastle i'll be worried about if they lose to Corbin.
