I agree some good points but again super classes would solve most of Mr. Vaught's complaints.

 

We have to look at this as an evolution of sorts and hopefully with super classes in 2011 almost everyone will be happy.

 

Also, this is what the football coaches association wanted. Since Mr. Vaught brings up other sports maybe we all need to find out what the other coaching associations want???

I usually agree with Mr. Vaught but I must say that Football is so different in than other sports. Numbers matter more in Football. Look back at Paintsville in basketball (I think it was 1997), they won the Basketball State Championship. Now name a single A football team that could have won the 4a state championship title in the last 10 years. I have coached Football, Basketball, and Baseball so I have so don't get me wrong but Basketball and baseball can be won with 2 great players and a few role players. Football is different. Look at the state championships last year (Trinity). Football is a numbers game.

I think football is a different animal but he makes some very good points. The powers will still be there to deal with, and some teams may find it difficult when it comes to scheduling. I think the superclass can't come soon enough.

Name a class A school that has won the state basketball title before or since Paintsville. The past 5 Sweet 16 winners are J-town, S. Laurel, Warren central, Mason Co., Lex Cath. All of those are a far cry enrollment wise from Paintsville and I believe the competition gap will continue to get larger rather than smaller.

At the 6A level,Trinity and St. X will still dominate football. What has changed? Would we be going to 6A if there was no Trinity or St. X (or a functional equivalent)? Of course not. Well, even with 6A there is still a Trinity and still a St. X. I am open-minded about this, but I do not see that it solved the ultimate problem.

It doesn't really solve anything. It certainly doesn't address the problems in girls sports or other sports such as swimming, golf, soccer, and tennis.

It solved the problem for the schools no longer in the T/X 6A Class.

I like the article, but want to point out one very important point. THe KHSAA is pursuing this idea because the coaches of football overwhelmingly want it. They pushed for it, and now they've got it. If you have a problem with basketball, get a consensus view among the member schools on the subject, such as the one the coaches of football have, and bring it before the membership for ratification.

I have to disagree my friend. The KHSAA is pursuing this idea because the coaches overwhelmingly voted for a public/private split. Never, and I mean never, was there a vote by the coaches for 6 classes. This is just Plan B to try to "calm the masses." It will probably work for a while, and may work wholly if they implement the "super class" alignment. But the underlying issues still remain and still need to be addressed.
