  1. Thoughts and prayers sent to this young man's family. Best wishes to his brother on a full recovery. Truly awful.
  2. Is this the young man that came from Holy Cross? If so, he was ruled ineligible by the KHSAA for the 13-14 school year. I believe Holmes is still fighting, but the judgement has been decided.
  3. Prayers from the Miller family, Alex. Super kid. He will overcome.
  4. There are many freshman coaches in the NKY area who have remained at the freshman level for many years, i.e. Jim Goetz (St. Henry - 20-ish years), Steve Sorrell (Cov Cath - 20+ years as Head Coach), Ralph Meyer (NCC & Lloyd - 12-15 years) Steve Fromeyer (Scott & Dayton 13-16 years), Matt Stevens (Cov Cath, Highlands & Beechwood - 8-10 years), Jeff Schraffenberger has been at SK for 7-8 years and was in Ohio before that and Zach Ashley has been at Boone for about 6 years. These are just several who I can think of off the top of my head. I think I4C and TOG hit the nail on the head - freshman coaches are important to every program. Maybe some schools have issues, but look at the schools I just named and the one thing that stands out is each one of their varsity programs have success every year. The schools that can't keep good freshman coaches have a tougher time excelling. Varsity coaches who have to teach their system to sophomore's are way behind the curve and often struggle to win games. Have these coaches had opportunities to move up levels or switch schools? Absolutely. Why do they "waste their talent on freshman?" Probably because they're all loyal people who believe in the program they coach for and want it to succeed. You've also got to realize many of these guys aren't teachers and schedule wise is makes sense to coach freshman. Not everyone can be at 3:00 practices or travel for Christmas tournaments, etc. Lastly, I think the freshman coaches in this area are some of the most competitive people, to a man. I can tell you this, no one cares if they lose a summer game, but are they going to show their kids it's okay to not care? Doubtful. I've known Ralph, Jim, Steve, Zach, Jeff, Matt, and Coach Sorrell a long time and none of them have ever been down with losing, but they're still going to coach their tails off, no matter what time of year it is. All are quality coaches who have built incredible foundations at some of the perennial top 10 programs in the NKY area for many years.
  5. Oh, I believe one of your parents filmed the game. Maybe you can view it and get back to me on my account of how things transpired at the end of the game.
  6. I believe Scott did sub all five guys out with three minutes to go in the Newcath game. In fact, in every game they played this summer, all kids were subbed in and out every five minutes with the only exception being the one I just described. Should be a good season for freshman basketball this winter. Looks like quite a few teams will have nice groups of kids to work with. Simon Kenton will have loads of talent and depth to play with from what I saw yesterday.
  7. Great hire by the Cooper admin. Jeremy's been one of the most successful freshman coaches in the area the last 7-8 years. He's not only old school, but has a great baseball mind. Best of luck, Coach!
  8. For the record, today is the first day I've ever heard this young man's name, therefore I know nothing about him. With that said, maybe the structure of Covington Catholic will be good for him, if he in fact has had attitude issues. Coach Rowe doesn't play games and the student/athletes at CovCath have always represented their school/families/community incredibly well. I agree with Trogan1, we should give him a chance. It's amazing what discipline does for young people and no one is better at that than Bob Rowe.
  9. Incredible. I feel awful for the young man at Logan Co. Pitched his tail off. Congrats to X.
  10. "Everyone, remain calm! The clock is running and we'll be out of here shortly!"
  11. I wonder why he made the move back to NKY? I believe he's from here, but he's bounced around so much the last four-five years that if I were the Grant admin, I would be skeptical. Hopefully he's not at Grant for a year or two and then moves on, as he's done since he began coaching High School ball. Programs (and kids) need stability, which is why the schools with loyal coaches win more than the programs with transient coaches. Maybe my story is wrong and he was forced to leave the recent programs he's been at, but I know how he left Ryle and it was flat out wrong.
  12. Scott has hosted this league for the last six years.
  13. Please don't fill yourself with false hope, Crunch-time. I can assure you of this, Guru's "info" is accurate and I can also assure you there isn't a bigger fan of Coach Fookes than I. However, with that said, she herself has acknowledged she made a big mistake and I could only imagine how she feels about what's going to happen to her future. I know we all have people we are loyal to, but that facts in this case are clear. I've been on the record in this thread and in personal conversations with people that as a parent, I have no issue, personally, with what she did - as long as there was clear belief my daughter was guilty. You're piling on of Guru is unnecessary. I've been here since the beginning, with different names, and I couldn't tell you one time that he posted info that was not "completely accurate". We no longer live in the world where the newspaper breaks news to us. We now find breaking news on places like BGP, Facebook, Twitter, etc. Unfortunately, someone has to break that news and in many cases the person who breaks the news is crucified by those who choose not to believe it. It's my hope that Coach is allowed to continue her coaching career when the dust settles, but she's in a tough spot right now.
  14. Congrats to Pete Ohmer on the one hit complete game! The Eagles really looked impressive at the plate today. Best of luck tomorrow.
  15. I see where Lawnboy is coming from here Clyde. I don't think any random or innocent kid should have done to them what happened at BC. However, if my daughter was suspicious of stealing that phone and there was good reason to believe she had it - I'd have no issue with what Nell did. I know it could've been handled better, so don't think I'm in favor of my kids being strip searched at school. It's regrettable and terribly sad that this will most likely end the great career of an amazing coach.
  16. I would assume suspension (now that school is out) means no access to school facilities, no coaching, etc. I hope that everything can be worked out and coach is able to return to the sidelines. However, in the event this thing goes south, it would be a sad and disappointing ending. Best of luck, Coach!
  17. I really liked what I saw from this young man. He seems to play the game the proper way and can put the ball in the basket. Should have a tremendous career.
  18. There was never a doubt he was going out in this style! I certainly hope he coaches again. Congrats to Ryle!
  19. Anytime you beat Nate Verst, you've earned the victory. Congrats to the Eagles on an outstanding win! Best of luck tomorrow night and next week.
  20. Best of luck to Coach Beiger wherever he lands. He's an incredible baseball coach and has done so much for kids in this area. However, it's obvious that his style wore out his welcome in Union. It's no secret the school has had to hand him suspensions, etc. but at the end of the day, he was going to do it his way. I admire Bob's passion for the game and am certain those kids will rally around him this week.
  21. Congrats to BW on the win and to Scott for a great year. I wish I could have made it out for this one. Jake Ohmer is an exceptional athlete and has an incredible future ahead of him. On top of that he's an even better kid. A true competitor.
  22. I think JV? He was the freshman coach, but had since moved up.
  23. This!! Some people are just die hard and loyal. They sound like amazing people to me. My condolences to his wife and their family.
