  1. I don't know of another assistant besides Tommy Lykins?
  2. Was this a night game? If so, I wasn't aware that Highland Park had lights. Pretty cool atmosphere if it did! I really like the work Coach Baioni (sp?) and his guys have done to that field. Well at least I thought I had been told the city is no longer maintaining the field. Personally I like that baseball people take care of baseball fields instead of someone who could care less what the field looks like as long as the grass is cut and the field has been dragged i.e. Cordero Field, Central park, etc.
  3. The current (former) system is old and needs to change. There has to be another way of evaluating or rating people than the way they do it now. Basketball is difficult because there are so many games and too many people to see. If a coach doesn't see someone who's new(er) and doing very well, is it fair to him/her that they don't know them and rank them lower than Jim Farmer? Hopefully the crew that picks the new assigner will chose someone who is willing to change the current model. Personally, I'd hate to see them hire another 9th region official. Chris was doomed from day one. He went from being one of the guys on Wednesday and the boss on Thursday - bad combination. They need someone from outside their circle to lead them.
  4. I'd say you're safe there having McDonald for the next two years.
  5. I believe he's just a varsity assistant. Was the JV boys coach at Holy Cross last year and Bishop Brossart the year before that. Has also been at Highlands. Great coach, great person.
  6. I really give the WV administration credit here. From what I've heard they were incredibly dead-set on making a big splash on hiring a Head Coach. I don't know how many applicants they had, but they pursued Grant Brannen and did what it took to get him to leave the only place he's ever known. Put yourself in Grant's shoes - he's grown up in that gym. First, when his brother John was at Newcath he would've been 8-11 years old. Following the team around, rooting for them, wearing their colors. Then he grows up and plays in that same program, with the same pride he had while watching his brother. After that he comes back as an assistant under two separate head coaches before getting the job himself. That's 20-23 years of bleeding blue & gold and knowing nothing else. Could you imagine that comfort zone? To leave that position after being a good steward of the program would take a lot. Having not talked to him I'm certain the money was the end all, but I truthfully don't know. However, I give him incredible kudos for having the guts to do what he had to do, as hard as it probably was. With that said, Congrats to Grant Brannen on the job. I wish him nothing but the best of luck.
  7. Mr. Skinner, just bc Rick Broering didn't break this doesn't mean it's not true.
  8. I agree. Antonio Campbell??? Seriously? That kid got no better in the time he was there. Personally I thought he was out of shape and not what people made of him. Sure he would score on kids bc of his size, but when did he ever do something spectacular? I like Erik, but no way Newcath was hiring him. If it were to be Ron Dawn, so be it. Best of luck to him.
  9. It's already on twitter and official.
  10. What is going on in these schools? Parents have taken control of everything and no one in any administration has the backbone to stand up to them. Here you have a good coach who is told to quit or be fired all because a group of parents didn't like his style?
  11. Shame on the BW admin if this is true, which it probably is. Never been a big fan of Ben Zimmerman, even if he wasn't the one making the phone calls. Best of luck to Michael. Great guy.
  12. Week 0 is 8/23. So yes, football was moved back a week. Most likely due to heat/humidity.
  13. My two cents, for what it's worth: If the names on this thread are truly applicants, my guess would be that Beau Menefee would be one of the front runners. I believe he was the Head Coach at Bellevue some years back, but I could be wrong. I know that he was on staff there. Mike Walls would be an obvious choice considering he's a Dayton guy, been a HC and just came off of a staff that went to the Regional Final. I thought he coached football at Dayton as well, but it's been a few years since I've been to one of their games. Bill Rogg, Darrell Patton & Nathan Dilts have all put in time with the program, which is great for the kids in the system, but I don't know if any are ready to be the HC. Not a shot at any of those three, just my opinion. Part of me thinks a change in scenery would be best for the administration, but sometimes continuity is what's best for the kids. I hope that whomever the Principal and Superintendent hire is the perfect fit. Nothing better than seeing the little guy succeed, i.e. Augusta.
  14. I would think Ryle will get many solid applicants. I'd bet the farm Goetz will apply and would see why Snapp would apply, but I don't know if Scott Code will, as he seems to be in a good place. I saw on the other message board Brandon Grammer's name. Didn't he move away to coach somewhere?
  15. Well written, as always, Mr. Skinner! This event needs to be played, but I agree that the participation has lacked since the glory days of this event. I've been to many east/west games and have enjoyed almost all of them. I can't say that I'm a big fan of the lack of discipline with some of the past players. By no means do I mean many players or all players, but there have been some young men, who have nothing to lose, that act like fools. In a perfect world the kids would compete hard, with class, and enjoy this event as a token of their hard work and dedication of their careers. Kudos to Tom Gamble for grabbing this by the horns and taking control. I agree with him, someone who runs events should take charge of these types of things. Looking forward to June already!
  16. Tough break for Kyle. I hope things work out for him, whatever he decides to do. Congrats to Coach Griffith. Best of luck to him.
  17. I believe you, too. However, don't you think at some point he'd want to stay in the same building? I kinda thought of him for the Walton job since they live out there. It's my belief that Erik Goetz will apply and will be considered for the job. I don't know much about HC, but when you can't even make it out of your district, it has to be frustrating. Now will be a good time for him to move on, if that's what he chooses to do.
  18. One would think Hunt or Feldman would appear to have a good chance at this job. I'm with Clyde, a young and energetic coach would do well in Ft. Thomas. Someone who could care less that football is king, but will coach who shows up and will coach them hard.
