  1. Lots of really good points here. I've heard since early January that this could very well be his last season in NKY. If so, good for him. He's a fantastic coach and will do well with whatever he's got in the works. I agree with the masses, if you're going to move an 8th grader, go now. Time will tell, I suppose.
  2. Tough news for Chad. Maybe Mike Hunter should be removed as Principal, too? He obviously doesn't have the guts to stand up to parents and defend his staff, so he should go as well. Coward. Clyde's point was right on, the only thing I value in this world is loyalty and without it you are nothing.
  3. I think this job could land many quality coaches. IDK if Aric would leave CC after his third year, but if Cov Cath comes calling, it would be hard to pass up. I would think it would have to be someone willing to take a pay cut.
  4. I disagree with this call at all levels. I understand the defender left his feet, which is poor defensive fundamentals, but to reward the offensive player is tough to swallow. I know he makes a heady play, but it's just cheap, IMO. I'd rather see a no call on this, but it probably won't happen...ever.
  5. Instagram Had this sent to me by a coach. As I said, the timing was correct, but the lane violations were awful. The official out top lets the kid in front of him charge into the lane before the ball hits the rim and doesn't do anything. Shameful.
  6. The 9th is very heavy at the top. Once you get away from the best five or six guys, who knows what you're going to get. The 8th, 10th & 11th have always been consistent. However, I think with the new assigner in the 9th, things will trend upward soon. TOG is right, for once (JK), rules are rules. Some associations differ with their beliefs on enforcing certain rules, but if a charge is a charge in the 10th, it needs to be a charge in the 9th, etc. If a hand-check is hand-check in the 10th, it needs to be a hand-check in the 9th. The problem with swapping is that teams & coaches have adjusted their style to how the games are called. Wouldn't you want that same style in the regional? I like that there's no bias in the regional, but it's tough to change the way you play when the games are at their most importance.
  7. The ball was touched by Scott's 30, not the Cooper player. I, too, have seen this video. Basket was good, no disputing. Shooter didn't cross the line, but all four lower lane players were in the paint prior to the ball hitting the rim. Also, the player positioned above the three point line on the bench side, not McNeil, had run to the FT line prior to the ball hitting the rim. So, you're the official's, what do you do? Wave off the attempt and have a do-over? Let it play out? I believe officials receive checks to enforce the rules of the game, correct? I think to save my butt I would have called a violation on everyone and done it again, but that's just me. Cooper made a great play and won the game bc of it. Kudos to their kids for not quitting.
  8. I was thinking the same thing. Someone needs to put a video of that play on here. Seems like a lot to happen in 0.9, but I'd say if the ball hit the floor the officials would've waived it off.
  9. Scott teams have a tenancy to make you "not play at the top of your game". Gotta give them some credit for that. Trentman is just a bad match-up for them.
  10. 08 - Boone 09 - Boone 10 - Scott 11 - Cov Cath 12 - Cov Cath 13 - Simon Kenton Boone won the 9th region championship in 2012, right? I think that played out well for them at the varsity level. Scott went to the regional finals last year and Cov Cath has had a great last couple of years. It surely helps having the Ruthsatz boy and CVH added to those teams that won the region. Great problem to have. SK will have a solid next few years with this group that's coming through.
  11. Coaches move on for different reasons, but to lose that freshman staff will be a blow...IMO. Fro told everyone last spring that he was moving on after the season, so that's no surprise there. Steve Kroger was there because of Kevin, so his moving on would probably signal his intent to go to Ludlow? I could be wrong about that, but it seems logical. I'd have to ask Kevin this, but I think he saw an open job that sparked his interest and thought it was the right time to go for a varsity job. He's paid his dues in a great program, has had tremendous success on his level and really had nothing more to accomplish there. LB, I don't know if that answers your original point of why they're "dropping like flies", but that's just my two cents. I know I'll miss seeing those idiots on game day, but I'm happy for all of them. They deserve to be somewhere where they'll be appreciated for the work they do.
  12. BZ, I think you'll like what you're getting. Kevin will not only lead by example, but expect perfection in every drill, every swing, every ground ball, etc. Kudos to Joe Beard and the boys on a great hire. I'm certain all applicants were very qualified.
  13. I believe they've played in that tournament since the 70's. I can't say that's "double dipping", but I see your point. Smart move to play in it, if you ask me.
  14. Since I'm joining the conversation late, please excuse my ignorance. Guru, do you think Coach Lynch might be posturing to allow Ryle to be the one to announce their choice for HC? Also, I can't, and stress can't, imagine the Triple Crown Mafia would like the offense that's run at Manual. It appears to be a wing-t or whatever you call it. Those people would lose their minds! I'm also a big Mike Woolf fan. I think he would make a fantastic head coach, and have personally tried to get him to move on and take jobs that were open. However, Mike Woolf is a loyal man and had remained loyal to Ryle High School, Bryson Warner and the kids in that program. I didn't think he would get the Ryle job, but not because he isn't qualified. I think the current administration was looking to break away from the previous regime and separate themselves from any BS stirred up by the parents that were behind the Warner firing. Regardless of who is the next coach, I wish them well. I'd like to see a spread offense there, only because I believe the talent is ripe for that offense. I certainly hope Mike Woolf will be the defensive coordinator bc he's earned that right to stick around. Looking forward to this ending.
  15. Malachi is nowhere near the athlete his brother was. Honestly, I think that's a blessing in disguise. He seems like a good kid from the interactions I've had with him. However, he's had his share of bonehead moments, just like all kids.
  16. As always, a fine event put on by the freshman coaches in the area. Freshman sports are often overlooked, but this tradition continually allows young men access to the big stage.
  17. Clock will start on the ready in situation A. However, in B, the clock will start on the snap due to the delay of game foul.
  18. Sad, sad news. Best wishes for Nick and his family.
  19. KHSAA requires coaching jobs be posted for 30 days before they can be filled. I don't know the punishment for not complying with that mandate, but them's the rules.
  20. I think this comes off a little harsh and maybe arrogant as well. I looked at Augusta's schedule and it's not bad at all. They've got a really nice team and deserve to have the start they've had. Losing one of their best players to injury didn't help them tonight, but beware come district/regional time.
  21. If they're within one yard of the line of scrimmage at the time of the snap you can.
  22. Mike Murray is one of the finest men I've ever had the chance to meet.
  23. Do you honestly believe he would leave? I can't think of a scenario where he walks away from Highlands. Too big of a risk if you ask me. He's the next in line at Highlands, but if he left to get Head Coaching experience and failed, does Highlands hire him when the boss retires? Moot point, IMO, but worth discussing.
