  1. I’ve heard similar rumors but nothing confirmed. I think barring an epic meltdown that Hopkinsville will win this game comfortably. I’ll say Hopkinsville 28 Caldwell 7.
  2. Two good football traditions that are off to slow starts this year. Can Hopkinsville win their first game of the season after back to back losses to Ballard and Mayfield or will Caldwell win their 2nd in a row?
  3. Logan/Russellville cancelled. Russellville now hosts Todd County Christian County/Henderson cancelled..
  4. This will not curtail Covid. Is Ashland having a lot of cases through athletics?
  5. I can see that. To me I think you need to look in Metro areas that match the demographics that this new school will have. Discipline, Accountability, organization, and ability to relate to kids should be the top 4 traits that the hiring committee should look for. They also need to make sure they keep the best coaches from each school as well. You can hire outside but you also have to have the ability to retain your own to make the transition smoother. Are they going to try and merge before they get into the new school building? If so I think that would limit the pool of established coaches as well. This job will go to a HC that has experience. This job will not go to a coordinator or anyone without large school head coaching experience.
  6. Both schools have quite a bit coming back. Christian County only has 6 seniors and are starting numerous freshman and sophomores. Hopkinsville has a very good junior class that has one of the best players in the state in the Mercer kid. I also would say that Christian County is down right now but I don’t believe Hopkinsville is. They are coming off a State Semi-Final appearance and have lost games to 6A #7 Ballard and 2A #3 Mayfield. All scheduled and losses are not the same.
  7. If Brandon Smith didn’t leave South Warren for Boyle County he dang sure isn’t leaving for the Christian County-Hopkinsville gig.
  8. I can see this John Hardin team playing in the State Semi-Finals.
  9. Hoptown had a few big gainers called back by penalty as well. The biggest play of that game last night was the Hopkinsville blocked punt that would have given them the ball on the mayfield 21 yard line trailing 14-3 in the 4th that they muffed and Mayfield recovered. Mayfield threw a 79 yard TD to #2 the next play that would be the final nail in the coffin. Mayfield just kills you for mistakes. That hasn’t changed in the last 30 plus years of Mayfield football.
  10. Mayfield played extremely disciplined football and that won the game. The Tigers had multiple trips inside the Mayfield 20 & 10 & came up with only 3 points. The Tigers look like a pretender & the Cardinals look poise for another long postseason run.
  11. I agree. Talent wise the Tigers are a cut above in the West but they are known to be a roller coaster of a team.
  12. The Tigers could very well begin the season 0-2 with Mayfield coming in to town, but I still have a hard time seeing anyone but the Tigers represent district 1 in the 3rd round of the playoffs this year. They are usually a Jekyll & Hyde team that starts slow and finishes strong. I can see the same thing happening this year as well.
  13. There were rumors around Western KY last year that Peach, while a heck of a coach, was a total control freak. It seems that those rumors may be more than just rumors.
  14. Murray needs to also pick up a game. If they do not, week 1 is still a forfeit victory.
  15. Ballard’s Defense is the real deal. They will keep them in it but the Ballard OL will struggle mightily versus the Male Defense. They only scored one offensive TD vs Hopkinsville and that was late in the 4th. I’ll go Male 28-0..
  16. The opening game of the Jerry Claiborne Bowl pits these two teams vs one another. The Colonels kicked off their season with a solid win over Caldwell County 24-3 to give 1st Year Head Coach Rick Gehres a solid start to his career. Logan County comes into this game after beating Warren East 37-0. Logan County will be led by their run game and are always a tough out as Coach Todd Adler has his guys prepared and full of confidence. Who comes out on top?
  17. A good Western Kentucky Rivalry Game. Mayfield & Hoptown have played each other since the 90’s with some very competitive games. Mayfield has won the last 3 meetings but the games have been closer each time with the last game coming in 2019 a Mayfield 22-13 win where they were facing a deficit in the 4th quarter. Mayfield is coming off of a 35-21 win over a good Graves County team & will be led on offense by #4 Galbreath & #2 Coles as well as being led by a nasty OL led by their OT #53.. From talking with others the strength of this Mayfield squad is their defense. Hopkinsville comes off a 28-3 loss to Louisville Ballard in a game they led 3-0 at halftime then gave up 2 Special teams scores & a snap over the punters head giving Ballard the ball inside the 5 that blew the game open. Ballard had 144 yards passing on 24 attempts and 40 yards rushing on 18 attempts. The Tigers are led by Star WR/DB Daisjaun Mercer who had 4-111-0 vs Ballard, QB #8 Jefferson and one of the Best Defenses in Western Kentucky. Can Hopkinsville get back on track and knock off the Cardinals? Or will Mayfield continue its winning ways over the Tigers? Should be a really good game in the nightcap of the Jerry Claiborne Bowl.
