Logan County (8-1) at South Warren (5-4)

These teams have played 6 times before with South leading 5-1.  Logan County defeated South at home in their first meeting back in 2011 24-13.  In the following 5 games, South has scored 232 points to 9 for Logan County.  That tells you quite a lot right there.

South Warren comes into this game after falling last Thursday to a surprising Greenwood team 35-21.  South QB Button and RB Sales play well, but way too many turnovers.

Logan County comes into this game knocking off winless Calloway County 42-17.  So this will be quite a step up from that game.

This game this season though, I’m intrigued, as Logan County is playing well and only a 7-point deficit at Greenwood stands between the Cougars and an undefeated season.  Additionally South just lost by 14 at Greenwood.

Could Logan County pull this upset?

What’s going on at South Warren?

Logan most definitely can pull the upset here. Huge game for them for RPI purposes. 4A in the west looks like it will be Warren East, Spencer County, Logan County, & Louisville Central in the quarterfinals.

South is dealing with injuries but they are still south Warren. I think this will be a very very good game.

I wonder how the final RPI would shake out if both Logan beat South and East beat Daviess. Both are probably underdogs but I find that to be a interesting situation.

One thing to remember is that South is almost unbeatable at home.  They've lost there seven times ever.  Two of those were the first two they ever played - they're 64-5 there since, and have won ten in a row.  I just don't see Logan County pulling his off AT South.  If it were neutral or in Russellville, I'd find it more intriguing.

I differ from you guys I think SW wins comfortably. Something like 35-14.

The new TP94 Power Ratings have it:

South Warren 102.23 Logan County 81.57

Logan County has been much better the last few seasons and they've still be handled easily by South Warren. I think Logan County is good again and South Warren is a bit down but I'm with you, this margin seems about right.

@Tigerpride94has there ever been a team (I'm thinking maybe T back a few years ago) with 4 losses with a rating over 100?

Out of state games don't count so probably Trinity possibly. South Warren has some good wins early in season propping them up. They have dropped last few weeks. Do they have injuries that might explain late season troubles?

I think they likely do.  I think Christian Conyers only played defense vs Greenwood.  But that's the double edged sword of playing several guys both ways.  Are there others injured?  I'm guessing yes, but don't really know.

The first two levels of the defense will be tested again this week for South Warren. Ryan Rayno is an All-Sleeper pick at running back who ranks near the top of the statewide leaderboard in rushing. He's a big back that runs through contact and falls forward for additional yardage.

In past years, running at South's best teams was like running into a black hole from which there was no escape. This is not one of their best teams. Still good, but not up to their championship standard. They can be run on.

Rayno doesn't have to win the game by himself, but if Logan County is going to knock the Spartans off, he needs to be effective. That could mean consistently hitting SW for 4-6 yards on first down and keeping them in favorable second and third down situations.

That's the matchup within the matchup I'm looking forward to most here.
