  1. McCracken fell into the same trap as Graves Co did in the late 80’s/early 90’s. At Graves up until the 2000-2001 school year, there were 7 elementary/middle schools. I attended one of them.

Each of those 7 elementary schools had their own football programs of different grade levels. In their 7th grade year, all of those players consolidated into one Graves Co 7th grade team.

As an example, my middle school had enough athletes to field a full team of 5th and 6th graders, but when my 6th grade class moved up to 7th grade exact 3 players moved on to the consolidated team.

The better approach would have been for those seven schools to develop seven full teams with the varsity coach driving the ship as far as offensive and defensive schemes, drills, etc.

That’s the approach Alan Hatcher took with the 7 middle school basketball programs in that county that led to his success and ultimately to Graves being more of a basketball school.

    I’m in shock over this…

Should have been on the sideline!

Personally, I thought it would be a battle. When Catholic jumped out ahead two TD’s in 3 minutes, it took the wind out of the sails.

I still stand behind Coach Edge. That wasn’t the best Apollo team in the field last night. This coming Friday against Owensboro will be tough, but by week 3, I think they’ll be much-improved.

One thing that shows to be true to me more and more every season is that NOTHING is being taught at the middle school level in this county in any sport. Someone has to get control of that situation.

  3. I just saw this on Twitter, and was wondering if anyone could provide more details. The way I interpreted the snippet of info: a basketball team was attempting to raise money for flood victims out of season, and the KHSAA has refused to grant a waiver citing a membership decision from a year ago.

What was the initial vote in reference to?

What was the scope of the proposed fundraiser?

    What are you thoughts?

Here are some more of the bigger football rivalries. I tried to tag some of the folks who tend to comment in threads involving the schools mentioned.

Graves County vs. Mayfield - Mayfield is the county seat of Graves County, so the rivalry comes naturally. GCHS opened in 1985 after 6 schools were consolidated into 1. Mayfield has always generally ruled the rivalry when it comes to football, but Graves tends to rule the rivalry when it comes to hoops.

Boyle County vs. Danville - Danville is the county seat of Boyle County, and has a football program that is one of the oldest in the state (1912). Boyle County High School opened in 1963. This has been a major rivalry in all sports between the two schools, but especially on the football field. @Rebel @Rebelstat @BEChargers @DanvilleFan @Shaquille_Oatmeal might be able to help out with details on this one.

    St. Xavier vs. Flaget @Tigerpride94 @Tigercat @Xtiger69 @LongTimeReader @Tigers20-22 @Tigers88

    St. Xavier vs. Trinity @SHAMROCK69 @NLTanker1 @JIM SEYMOUR # 85
Played since 1956. Trinity leads 48-39-2.

Lexington Catholic vs. Lexington Christian @Big Things Kentucky @Johnny_Utah @Tigerallamerican

    Hoptown vs. Madisonville-North Hopkins @Big Fletch @Region2 Hype Man @Westernside @TylerDurden @WKY_Football @KingDeuce @tackle trap

Scott County vs. Frederick Douglass - This one is new, but heated. @16thBBall Fan amirite?

Feels like a program as old as Owensboro has to have a pretty major rival there around Owensboro/Daviess County...or maybe is their rival Henderson County? @Brown @Devils Fan @ApolloFan98 @zoneblitz2 any input here?

Definitely no love lost between Hendo and Owensboro.

  5. These players and their attitudes have made HS basketball hard to watch. 75% of the games I’ve watched this year with teams from various places in the state have turned into a chippy mess. Coaches excuse it by saying “he plays with passion,” and “I love his competitiveness.” The truth is, the coaches are just failing to teach their kids mental toughness. They can’t handle a loss.
