Not after Friday’s game. I would think CAL would be an option. It is probably the closest turf field to KCD.

Look at the attendance figures for the Trinity - STX game. The numbers have been declining for the last few years. There was a time when the attendance was ~30,000; now it’s about half that and even less if they meet in the playoffs. Granted there are a lot of kids there who treat this as a social event and don’t have a clue as to what is happening on the field. So the lack of attendance has an effect on the bigger schools and not just the smaller schools. I’ve been to some games where you could actually count the people in the stands. Other options on Friday night do exist as the local Friday night football game is losing its luster as “must see”.

From what I understand there is a 1 minute official’s TO after the PAT. What I’ve seen in the few games I’ve seen this year, the kicking team will huddle up in front of their bench and get instructions from their coach. The ref on that side will now try to get the kicking team out on the field. However, once they get to the middle of the field they will rehuddle and talk about whatever. The kicker will now tee up the ball and once the ball is teed up, the kickers will huddle again for the 3rd time. Then the ref checks to make sure all the kickers are within 5 yards of the ball. It is then that the ref signals to the white hat that everybody is ready and the 25 second play clock starts. What is intended to be a 1 minute break has now turned into a 3-4 minute delay before the KO.

STX will be back sooner rather than later. From what I hear both their FR & Soph classes have a lot of talent. Nothing against Woolford but the program took a few steps backward under his tenure as coach. This is a 24/7 job. Hopefully Wallace has the foundation he needs to get the program past the 3rd round of the playoffs. I would think a few changes will be coming in his coaching staff. A lot of young talent in the program needs the best coaching it can get.

The place to be? Any playoff game this week!

I flew Piedmont from Richmond, VA to Louisville on a prop plane. It stopped in Roanoke, Huntington & Cincinnati before it landed in Louisville. It was about a 6 hour flight.

I have no dog in this fight but one of the things you have to consider in the playoffs is that the refs come from different parts of the state. Crews that officiate Cal & DeSales games in the regular season are local. One thing coaches fear during the playoffs is how the out of town refs will call the game. What may be considered “excessive celebration” to one crew from another region may not be called that way during the regular season. But coaches and teams need to adjust to how the game is called. Watch during the finals in Lexington and you will see crews doing something a little bit different than the other 5 crews.

It’s always best to focus on this week’s game. Next week is not promised to anyone

This seeding is all confusing to me. Always enjoyed looking ahead to seeing who plays who if so & so wins.

Years ago Piedmont had a flight from Louisville to Lexington. 15 minute flight. It was almost like you were there before you left.

If I had a son playing in the 3rd, 4th or final round of the playoffs, I’d love a 2 1/2 hour drive to watch him play. They are only in HS once in their life, so enjoy it. Plus, these long bus rides will be something these kids will never forget and will be talked about for years to come in their lives. They will be turned into “Remember when....” stories and the length of the trip will be exaggerated more and more the older they get. So remember once it’s over, it’s not coming back. People will always find something to complain about but taking a road trip to a HS football game shouldn’t be one of them.

According to the KHSAA handbook in football they are suspended for the next 2 games.

A period will not be extended when the foul that occurs on the last play of the quarter involves a loss of the down. In the play example above the quarter should not have been extended since intentional grounding is a loss of down foul. Extension of the quarter can happen at the end of any quarter not just at halftime.

Without considering travel times and expenses, the most interesting thing about the old playoff format was seeing teams playing teams from other parts of the state. Besides I know the players enjoyed those playoff bus trips.

I see CH lost to South Oldham in their last regular season game. I was kind of surprised by that. Did CH rest any key players against SO?

Northington is the real deal for Manual. By the time he is SR he will be able to go to school wherever he wants to go. If I was UK or UofL I’d be sitting on his front porch and dare any out of state school to get close.

Too bad there couldn’t be a game worked out between Ryle & Louisville STX freshmen. Always interesting when the best teams from different regions of the state play each other.

I think this is going to be a problem for STX & Trinity in the future. Public schools just don’t have the numbers on the FR & JV level to be competitive. Canceling games at this level will happen more often especially late in the season. Hats off to SOHS for stepping up. Perhaps STX & SOHS can set up a home & home series on the varsity level in the future.

The Male - Manual game for years was played at Fairgrounds Stadium on Thanksgiving AFTER the state championship games were played. This should be one of the better games played in recent years.

Nothing against the PRP squad & coaching staff but if their QB played at one of the more traditional schools in Jefferson Co with more talent around him, he would be all-state.

Male has too much speed and too many athletes compared to BE. However, if BE can control the ball with their running game to shorten the game and use their passing game to keep Male’s defense from crowding the line of scrimmage they have a shot to keep it competitive.

We’ll have a better idea of how good Manual is next week against Male. Even though it isn’t a district game both teams will be sky high for their rivalry game.
