Should Manual have gone to #3 after beating Saint Xavier?

Featured Replies

Two weeks ago, Manual beat Saint Xavier for the first time in 26 years. Does Manual have a legitimate argument to have swapped rankings with Saint Xavier who was #3 in the BluegrassPreps 6A Top 10 at the time? Why or Why not?

Yes, they beat them. St.X will get another shot at them in playoffs.

It’s hard to argue that a team should be ranked ahead of a team that beat them head to head, so I’d say they deserve their ranking. They’ll meet again in November and we will see if that ranking will hold true.

I think he's talking about leaping over North Hardin also. Manual went over St X appropriately since they beat them head to head. The question is should they have also went ahead of North Hardin when they beat St X.

I think he's asking if Manual deserved to leapfrog North Hardin from #5 (where they previously were) to #3 after the win over X.

Personally, I'd have them at #3. Their win over X is far and away better than anything on North Hardin's resume, and their only loss was against Scott County. That win over St. Xavier was the first by a Louisville "big school" (current 6A or old 4A) other than Trinity or Male since 1998. Navigating that schedule with wins over Central, Fern Creek, and then the Tigers, makes them deserving of the #3 spot in 6A, at least in my mind.

I should have looked at it closer. North Hardin has taken care of business and has talent so I have no problem with them at #3. You could make a defensible argument that Manual should be #3 since have best win. Manual had 1 point win over St.X so if Manual is #3 than North Hardin would be less than a point better than St.X. at #4 or essentially 3 even teams.

Beat me to it, @Purple88!!! I had to do a little research before I could hit submit.

No worries...

I could see Manual at 3, but I don't take offense to it as both are good teams and it's a close race between those to. It would be a good game between Manual and North if it ever came about!

Any combination of Manual, St. X, North Hardin, and Central Hardin would make for good playoff matchups. Of course, they'd all be playing for the chance to get worked over by Male or Trinity.

We’ll have a better idea of how good Manual is next week against Male. Even though it isn’t a district game both teams will be sky high for their rivalry game.

I am curious about North Hardin... how “for real” are they?

I've seen Manual, Louisville Central, North Hardin, Central Hardin and Butler all live this year. Central Hardin and North Hardin are much better than the other 3 teams I mentioned. (I know Lou. Central is 4A)

I'd rank them :

1 Central Hardin

2 North Hardin

3 Manual

4 Butler

5 Central

Yes. They can do it all.

Manual will be a formidable final opponent for Male. #3 is well deserved.
