If this STX freshman class stays together, puts in the off-season work and develops some depth, it can be special. It will be interesting to see how this FR group will mesh with the current Sophomores in the future. A lot of talent in these 2 classes.

X FR have a lot of weapons. They moved some of their stud LBs to RB for a couple of series. Really ran hard. X will be tough in the foreseeable future.

The STX FR team played Trinity FR twice this year and beat them both times by a combined score of 77-0. Freshmen football is a good indication of talent level and what the future looks like since I’ve never heard of sophomores playing on the freshman team. Except for Trinity, STX & Male I can see more JCPS going to a “Froshmore” team if football numbers decline.

There appears to be other options to football such as soccer and lacrosse. I’m not saying those sports are safer than football but the perception is that they are. I can’t say I watch a lot of soccer or even a little lacrosse, but some of the hardest hits I’ve ever seen have been in soccer. Granted there aren’t as many blows to the head as there are in football but soccer is a contact sport and there are concussions and broken bones in that sport as well.

This seems to be an odd match-up. I never thought I’d see KCD playing a 6A team. Outside of a handful of schools this shows you the state of 6A football in Jefferson Co.

I was going home after attending a game Friday night and the KHSAA scoreboard radio show referenced this thread. Dang. I was impressed.

I didn’t realize this thread started 3 years ago. Some of those names mentioned earlier sounded familiar. I didn’t think they were still in HS.

...a HS Football Fan? By most accounts football as a whole is the most popular sport in the US. There are pro fans; there are college fans and there are HS fans. Being a relatively newcomer to this site, I am amazed at the passion members here have for HS football. Of the 3 levels of football HS football gets the least amount of publicity but by reading the threads on this site it is obvious that there is a lot of passion for HS football. Most people when they leave their high school they forget about the football program. But this site paints a completely different picture. So my question is how did you become such an ardent and loyal follower of HS football? For me it was a community event that hasn’t left me. The whole town closed down on Friday night to attend the local game whether it was Home or Away. It was that community pride that made the game a “must see” event. So what’s your story?

StX QB went out with a leg injury. He was on the sideline wearing a boot. Don’t know the extent of the injury. Hopefully just a mild sprain and the boot was strictly precautionary. Backup QB did a good job.

I would say 1A Lou Holy Cross over 4A Covington Holmes 21-14 after falling behind 12-0 after the 1st quarter.

It’s called “Junior Varsity” for a reason. It’s not strictly a sophomore team. It’s for players who aren’t ready to play varsity ball but need the reps.

For years, especially at STX, the assumption was that the JV team was for Sophs. But that philosophy is long gone. The JV team is exactly what it is: a “Junior Varsity” team. It is no longer exclusively a sophomore team. There could be JRs that just don’t have the ability to get playing time on the Varsity plus there may be FR who are talented enough to play up. Regardless, of all the levels of HS football, JV football is the worst gage in determining the future of a program.

I can’t understand why a school can’t use boosters/alumni to raise funds for facility improve to. Male would appear to be the one JCPS who could easily fund any project.

TP94, do you have any stats or information on the game?

I’ve heard PRP’s QB is very athletic. Tall with a strong arm. Sounds like he needs some help from his undersized OL. Their HC does a good job.

Should be an interesting freshman matchup next week when Moeller visits STX.
