The rule that has been around forever and lately has been the thing to do is Aiding the Runner. Even though it is legal in college, it is still illegal in HS. The rugby scrum is happening more and more in HS and is against the rules but it never gets called. Because players, coaches and fans see it in college games they automatically assume it’s legal in HS. But there are a lot of college rules that are illegal in HS, most noteabley throwing the ball out of bounds when the QB is out of the tackle box.

In the final 2 minutes of each half the offended team has the option of starting the clock on the snap on fouls when the clock would normally start on the ready. This prevents the team that fouls from gaining an advantage by committing a foul.

If the PC field is as bad as everyone says it is, imagine how bad it would be if it rained on Friday. The forecast isn’t calling for rain so I guess PC dodged that bullet.

I always thought it would be a good idea for a school to schedule a semi-final game on Friday afternoon. Chances are the weather would be a little better (hopefully warmer) and it would allow the visiting team to get back to their school at a respectable hour instead of after midnight. Most people are off the Friday after Thanksgiving so it possibly could be done. But I’m sure the KHSAA has reasons why it can’t be done. Just a thought.

I don’t recall seeing the big OT (Hudson?) play in the 2nd half for SC against FD. Is he hurt?

Fortunately W-V has field turf.

Then why even play the game? 6 minute quarters is less than a CSAA game.

I know in the Louisville area this is the last week of district games. I don’t know if that’s the case across the state. That being said said I’m sure some district champions have already been determined. I was wondering what games this week will determine the champion and the #1 seed. I know if STX beats Butler they win the district. I’m sure there are quite a few games that will determine 1st place.

Because of the district teams Trinity has to play, I wonder why people question Trinity for playing out of state teams. Other than STX & Male, there aren’t any local teams that can give them a competitive game. They have to do what they have to do in order to get playoff ready.

For all practical purposes, this is play-in game for these 2 teams. Winner makes the playoffs as the 4th place team while the loser is out.

By all accounts this is not a special Trinity team especially on offense. Beatty does not have the SR QB that has been in his system for 3 years like he has had in the past. It just goes to show you how good you can be when you have a player like Rondale Moore in your offense. And for the most part Trinity does not have that elite speed (and neither does STX) on the outside. Perhaps that speed is in the FR or Soph class and things will be back to Trinity normal in the future.

Coaches from UK were on the sideline for at least half the game. Marrow was one of them. The other may have been the WR coach watching the UK WR commit from Butler.

I hope this series continues beyond this 3 year contract. It’s always interesting when the Louisville catholic schools play each other. I see where DeSales also has a game scheduled this year against Lex Cath. Those type of games generate a lot of interest more so than playing public schools in non-district games.

So if I’m reading this correctly, DeSales had a quality RB last year that now plays at Butler. How is he eligible to play since he played last year and transferred to Butler?

I’m surprised X & Trinity don’t play other schools more than once on the FR level. Other than Male & perhaps DeSales & CAL, I can’t think of any freshman programs who could compete with X & Trinity in Jefferson Co. That is why those 2 schools have to schedule games against schools from Lexington, Cincinnati and Indy.

The best thing STX did in hiring Coach Wallace was they went outside the STX family. There was a need to get new blood into the program. Once Coach Wallace puts together his own staff for 2019 there will be a big change in the program. Getting rid of the “dad coaches” who have been coaching their sons from the time they were in grade school will be addition by subtraction. Best of luck to Coach Wallace.

I only saw the 2017 team play 1 time and they were a well oiled machine. If there was a better team in their school’s history, then that had to be a pretty good team.

I know that there is a lot of behind the scene activities going on in basketball but I guess I was just kidding myself thinking the same thing wasn’t going on in football. Advising kids in this type of situation is part of parenting. Why parents turn over the development and future of their children to “handlers” is something I will never understand.

HC is definitely a surprise. I have to wonder how much he will improve in the next 4 years. HC is a small school and most kids play both ways. Who will he be going up against in practice, the freshmen team? I just don’t see the development at HC, football wise, being better or equal to what he could get at another school. What has me scratching my head is how much “baggage” can a 14 year old boy have?

Kiyaunta is 6’ 7” 370 lb 8th grader in Louisville who has football offers from UK & UofL. Any idea where he will be attending HS?

Are there any spring games scheduled in the Louisville area?

I don’t really know what type of school classification Shawnee is. Some schools offer “traditional” program and other schools are “magnet”. I have to admit I don’t know the differences between them or what it takes to get into one of those schools. Someone who has a background in Jefferson County Administration could give you a better explanation.

50 years ago Shawnee had a very competitive program. But as the population in Louisville’s west end declined and moved to the eastern part of the county, so did the option of attending Shawnee. As the enrollment decreased, so did the numbers on the football team. Without the support of the neighborhood or any type of booster club, the whole athletic program suffers. I can recall years ago they had to postpone a game because all the copper wire had been stolen from the stadium lights. There was another time when several players couldn’t play in a game because none of them had knee pads. You have to respect the kids who make an effort to play in that program but for safety reasons something needs to be done to get their numbers up.

With all due respect to the school and it’s faculty, Shawnee may have the worst football program in the Metro Louisville area. A lot of factors are responsible for this situation. Location and enrollment are the 2 main reasons. The best solution is to have a non-region schedule and play teams closer to their level.
