The Pulaski County field situation got me thinking about this issue. Everyone wants home field advantage and a bad playing surface definitely feels like an advantage to Pulaski County to me.

When the "powers that be" start preaching about mental health, children's health, and psychologists and researchers talking about today’s teenagers are more lonely, anxious and depressed I wonder what all those same experts would say about playing such an important high school football game on a quagmire of a field?

 

So I will ask again, at what point is the KHSAA obligated to move a playoff game due to field conditions?

In my opinion, the field should never be a factor in a game starting with the Regional Finals.

I think it should be a requirement that all schools use turf instead of the old "cow pasture" term.

Not sure why it isn't feasible to use neutral site turf fields. I'm also not sure why we have teams travelling more than 3 hours for non championship games either.

Go play the game. I don't think it will matter. But Regional finals on shoud be at neutral sites.

He KHSAA has routinely demonstrated they will sacrifice convenience and revenue at the cost of the best interest to the athletes.

It hasn't played a factor in past playoff games when everyone played on grass. The playoff sites in ky works fine. The playoff system is watered down with who all makes it but I like that fact that if you win out you get at least 3 home games.

Either all semi-finals are on predetermined neutral fields or none...you can't move one game and not move another unless there is a true hazard concern.

 

FWIW a muddy field is much less of a hazard than a dry fast field as far as contact injuries go. Mud is just an inconvenience, not really a danger.

The Pulaski field was terrible. Only field I have seen worse was Hancock Co. field when Mayfield played them about 10years ago in regional championship. With that said just play the game.

That’s a pretty steep cost for schools.

The colonels having to play away two years in a row while undefeated is the problem.

I dont think they should have to change it all. It's not any un safer than a field turf field. In fact it even slows the players down and softer landings.

 

It seems to me the main people who ever have a problem with it is people who have field turf. If someone who is use to field turf, loses on a muddy surface, they blame the field. If a a grass team loses to a team who plays and practices on turf no one says how that is advantage to them.

 

Put it this way if a team doesnt have field turf, and always have to practice in the mud if the weather is bad. Then why shouldn't they be rewarded by getting to play on a surface they are use to and have to practice in. Seems like no one cares if a team had to practice in it every day, since they don't have field turf. While the other team never has to worry about poor surfaces for practice. But yet we want that team to have to move their home game to a neutral site to accommodate the team who always gets a perfect surface to work on for practice and games?

 

That seems to me to be following the everyone gets a trophy philosophy. Have to make it the same for everyone. Cant have a team get upset if they lose their perfect season to a team who also is playing on that same muddy field.

What happened at the Pulaski/SW game? I guess no one paid the $3,500 fee to livestream the game so I wasn't able to keep up with it.
