Really thought the attendance would have been better today. I guess the KHSAA underestimated the willingness of STX & Trinity followers to travel to Lexington on a Sunday afternoon after church. Now if it was being played in Louisville. But that’s another discussion.

1999. STX vs Bryan Station. OT. In the rain. X won 34-31 IIRC BS got the ball first in OT. As the teams were lined up for the first play, all the STX D linemen flopped to the ground causing BS to false start. Held BS to a FG. STX scored their TD on a 4th down run from the 1. Ran right behind Rabatin, who went on to play center at UofL. BS had Eric Shelton who went to FL St but he ended up transferring to UofL. Hope that is accurate.

Speaking of Flaget, their 1967 state championship team is being recognized on Sunday. That 50 years sure went by fast. I believe they only had a little over 30 players on that team. Only regular season loss that year was to STX. They beat Thomas Jefferson for the championship.

In the late 70s GA Tech had a player named Tico Brown who got fouled in the act of shooting. As he went to the line to shoot his FTs I can remember John Tong saying: “At the line, Tico for two”. Classic.

“These 2 teams really like each other.” “Wait until basketball season” “When is the lacrosse game this year?” “Who has beer in their trunk?”

Thanks for the info. I didn’t realize there was such a large difference in the size of the schools. I believe CovCath has played some of the Louisville schools on the JV & freshman level in the past. Just wondered why nothing ever happened with the varsity teams. Those match ups between teams from different parts of the state always intrigues me. Perhaps CC and DeSales can get a series going. I know DeSales plays STX in 2018.

I’ve read quite a bit this season about CovCath and their domination of KY opponents. I believe they have had a running clock in every game this year against a KY school. I can’t see why Louisville catholic schools don’t schedule home and home games with CovCath. Trinity & STX play teams from Cincinnati & Indianapolis every year while a game against CovCath would appear to be a natural. Maybe in a couple years DeSales could even get involved once they get their numbers up. I just don’t understand why a series hasn’t developed between these schools. Maybe someone can fill me in on the history if this has been discussed in the past.

What time does the game start?

I would be OK with having the semi-finals played at neutral sites with turf. I will take it one step further and play semi-final doubleheader’s since they are played on the Friday after Thanksgiving (no school and a lot of people off work). Play a game at 3:00 & 7:00. I would think most KY colleges would love the opportunity to host these games and have potential college students and their families on their campus for a day. Campbellsville has a great facility that would be perfect. Morehead, EKU, Murray and others would as well.

It’s not about the quantity of officials on the field; it’s the quality. The majority of officials I’ve encountered over the years don’t really like throwing penalty flags. Once they get a reputation as being “flag happy”, it sticks for a long time. Let’s see how the 7 man crews work out in the playoffs before we rush to judgement

Makes sense. Thanks. So after the 2nd round, it’s not based on record or district standing but solely on which district you are in? So it’s possible that the 2nd place team from an “odd” district could host the 1st place team from an “even” district this year?

I’m sure it has been explained here before but if 2 district winners advance to the 3rd round and play each other, which team is the home team?

What makes it worse is that Seneca finished 5th in Trinity’s district.

I know it’s only the first week of the playoffs but if everything fell into place what matchups would you like to see in the finals? Looks like the winner of Trinity and STX could play Scott Co. Any others? I’m not real familiar with teams outside the Louisville area and how the districts and regions line up so I’m looking for some help on which games to keep an eye on in rounds 1 thru 4.

Really impressed with the job Coach Fox has done at OC. Great attitude and his players really respond to his positive approach to coaching. Great future for OC and Coach Fox.

From what I’ve read on this site, STX beat Trinity JV twice this year. Nice accomplishment for DeSales to only lose by 1. I don’t envision DeSales being able to beat STX & Trinity on the varsity level on a yearly basis any time soon since the discrepancies in numbers really show at the varsity level. Nothing wrong with being a powerhouse 2A or even 3A team sometime down the road.

I talked to friend of mine who is an official and he says this year in the playoffs, the 3rd & 4th rounds and championship games will have 7 officials. The 1st & 2nd rounds will use 5. A few schools in Jefferson Co have agreed to use 7officials in the regular season games in order for the officials to get used to the different mechanics used for 7 officials compared to 5 men.

I was at the Ballard-Trinity game Friday night and noticed there were 7officials on the field. When did they change from 5 officials? Has this been all year and I failed to notice?

DeSales has put together a great program. The potential has always been there. Now with the new facilities, they should only get better. School is drawing a lot of talent from the south end but also kids who would normally go to Trinity or STX and never get an opportunity to play. DeSales now gives them another option as well as a quality education.

Easy trip up I-65 to Shepherdsville. BG should have an easy time with BC. Run the ball and hope no one gets hurt.

Atherton was very competitive when they were a “city” school. Believe it or not, their rivalry with Shawnee was the 3rd best rivalry in town, behind STX-Flaget and Male-Manual. Now once Flaget closed, the STX-Trinity rivalry surpassed all of them.
