Didn't this tourney used to have several out-of-state schools in it? I thought I watched CCH play a team from Florida a couple of years ago down there. CCH / Male Take II would be fun to watch -- although CCH will have their hands full with Lafayette in Round 1.

Wow...how nice of you to be defending your buddy. Honestly, I admire that. However, we do need to clarify a few things: A. I'm not a young pup. B. Fair warning? What did I say that was rude about Mike? That he was a great coach? That he is very smart? That can't be it -- that he brings with him baggage? That's what was so offensive it got "your blood boiling"? You're kidding, right? Mike is a nice guy, a World Class football coach, a legacy that is 2nd to none....he also will bring with him some baggage. It's not that big of a shot; it's a fact. It's also not a big deal. C. Court of law? Get real. Me thinks you take a little criticism of your friend a little too personally. He's a public figure, it isn't always going to be wine and roses. I like Mike, I think Mike's a great coach, I just don't think he'll ever be the coach at CCH -- and he may well have no interest anyway.

While that certainly adds to the speculation that Wirth is the leader for the job, I really hope they look at some other candidates too. There are some good young coaches coming up through the ranks, and I really hope they are given a fair shake.

LSU, there is no question that his results have put him into a legendary status. His reputation between the lines is impeccable and well earned. However, you are a VERY smart guy, and you can piece together that there have been several hires since he left Beechwood and he's been sort of a candidate and sort of not one for many of them. That will probably continue, until their is diversion between him wanting the job, the school needing wins and a high profile hiring, and them to be willing to accept / put up with some of the baggage that Mike brings with him (rightly or wrongly). No one is questioning whether or not he can coach. I echo CCH86's thoughts -- he won't be a candidate at CCH. At least I wouldn't think so.

I don't believe CCH would consider a para-professional or a guy teaching elsewhere. Just my opinion.

Since we're all dancing around elephant in the middle of the room, I'll throw this out there: Could it be that Mike applied for the job, Conner knowing they would have no "good" official reason for not hiring him if he interviewed, but not ready to go there, mysteriously "misplaced" said application? I know it sound Conspiracy-ish, but it seems to be the only plausible solution.

As was said in the other thread, Dave Wirth is the leader in the clubhouse. I'm hoping they dig deeper than the low hanging fruit; I'll just say that.

In my opinion, neither Wirth nor his staff (that he'd inevitably bring) are the right fits for CCH long-term. I'll leave it at that, especially since, as cshs81 mentioned, he's probably the leader in the clubhouse.

Austin Hill scored Holmes' first 11 points. As has been said by NKYBoy, Austin Hill looks like a LB. He has exploded physcially. A specimen. He is by far the best player in the 9th....it's not close. If Henley could have gotten Austin a breather now and then and not risked falling out of reach, this game would have been different (well, I'll go with could have been). Hill was dead tired at the end. Frankly, who wouldn't be. I thought he kept his composure very well in the face of unbelievable pressure, it was only when great passes for bunnies went uncashed did he seem to get aggravated. I thought Listerman going to an "Iverson-type" defense (where he'd run two guys at him when he had the ball to force him to give it up) helped to escalate Austin's tiring. Give Sophomore Luke Maile credit for working his tail off to try and derail Austin early when he was going off. I'm not sure they're better now with Austin and the Hills, but I'm sure that they are playing better basketball right now. If you can add Duran to this team, to ease some of Austin's load while yet still making him the offensive first choice, that would seem to be the best option. The rest of the group simply takes away from Austin's aggressiveness...and that often works against Holmes. By the way, the environment wasn't what it would have been had Holmes been at full strength...kind of a ho hum game. You never got that constant buzz in the crowd that a game like this normally has in that building. Onward to Friday...

As I said 2 years ago, statements like this are dangerous. Hugely over-blown. According to the alumni that you spoke to...right? Let's not anyone try and speak for a base of thousands of people....you'll never be right. You say you talk to Mike (or his family) and I have no reason not to believe you. I'd be shocked beyond recognition if: a) CCH would hire a guy with no head coaching experience; b) Mike would leave the Boone Co. school system for the CCH job. Mike is a good guy, at least he was when he was behind me in school at CCH. I wish him the best...I just don't think it'll be at CCH. As for Wirth.....:sleep: Let's hope not.
