Once again, not a good sign for the Colonel faithful. Holmes is minus 4 starters and still almost pull of the upset.

 

These young men who are playing in place of those starters should really be getting a lot of credit for the heart and desire they're showing.

Given the performance of Holmes-lite against Holy Cross and CovCath what does this say about the rest of the season?

 

Does Holmes now become THE 9th region force at full strength? Is Holmes-lite actually better than Holmes-regular? Does that divide the team?

I agree, i'm not sure when the "studs" come back that Holmes won't self destruct again, with those egos, there is no way there is enough ball in covington. I hope i'm wrong because Holmes is one of the most exciting teams in the STATE when they are fully healthy and clicking, but how many times in the past 2 years have we seen that Holmes team.

When Jefforson comes back that provides another leader to go along with Hill. Tonight Hill showed that he is the one who is carrying this team on his back right now. This is a very scary team IF they get things together. I am going to call it right now though, HOLMES WILL WIN THE 9TH REGION.

First great job by a bunch of hard working Bulldogs and their coach, their fans and parents should be very proud of the way they've played and carried themselves. The last two years with all the problems they've had these guys could have folded up tent and gone home but they've done the opposite.

 

As far as Holmes being the favorite when all the regulars come back that's a bit of a stretch, they were beaten by CCH without Billy Schult, by St. Henry, by Simon Kenton not to mention another couple games all at full squad before the suspensions. That being said CCH does not look particularly good right now but is finding ways to win their games which is impressive. Not sure why Coach L had B Brown, Billy Schult and Luke Maile all on the bench the last few minutes of the game when those 3 looked awfully good in the final minutes of the Highlands game just a week ago, and you have a player that had barely played at any time in the game in one of their places ?

 

Good luck to the Dawgs the rest of the way, oh and I agree let the kids who are working their tail off and keeping there nose clean keep playing. You add Duran to the mix and they could be awfully tough to beat. There's been enough drama the last few years these kids just give you effort and heart

Austin Hill in my mind is no question the player of the year in the 9th region.

Bulldogs keep your head up and you will be there in the end.

One of their guard, the sophmore, Jamall something, played excellent. He can shoot when open.

 

Someone said Braeon Avery was better than CCH's players (except TJ). He didn't have such a huge game--I guess CovCath keyed on him, which allowed Holmes's other players to score.

 

Austin played well but only had 2 points in the 2nd half.

 

CovCath could not put it away in the end and Holmes couldn't buy a bucket in the end.

 

Without Henderson, Rice, and Co. they are more focused on getting the ball to the best player in the region, Austin Hill, but I don't know if they are better.

 

For the record, CovCath (with players missng) beat Holmes with all of their players. It was a sloppy game (by both teams) but nevertheless I don't think that it is true that once their players come back the Bulldogs will be unbeatable, regardless of whether or not they start "clicking".

 

CovCath played very poorly, but came out with a big win. Friday night is going to be a testament to whether or not one of the teams from the 35th is going to stand out from the others.

First congrats to Holmes great game. For whats it's worth, as a CovCath fan, I want the Holmes team that I saw play at LexCath to play once they can come back. See, I think those players are selfish, and play only for themselves, and I don't think they are as good of a TEAM as this group of players.

 

Now if I were your coach, I would tell the six suspended players that they will be sitting on the bench and only subbing for the men on the floor tonight as needed, or until they can learn to play the game as Holmes did tonight. I have never seen such a disciplined, or such a team oriented approach from Holmes since the days of Dougie Schlomer, and Dicky Beal.

 

Play this team, give them a breather from time to time and Holmes will make a huge run on the State, but go ahead play the suspended players and the first time that things don't go their way....Well they will self implode as they have done so for two of the last three years....

 

BTW how many times in the long history of CovCath vs. Holmes games have you not seen Holmes get called for a foul in the entire first half? Strange indeed that Holmes having so many fouls to give, hurt them in the last minute of the game. Holmes had to commit four foul to get CovCath into the bonus and to the foul line....

Tonight shows that Holmes has other players that can also play well at the varsity level. Jemel Riley has great potential and showed that he can hit the big shots tonight. The future is looking good for him, and as a sophomore he has a lot of time to improve.

That was said about the senior group this year after they won region. I just hope for his sake he turns out like Mr. Hill and "some" others in that group and not other's mainly the ones that are suspended.
