  1. Not sure, maybe he wouldn't be, I was spit-balling. I think the Williams / Castellini ownership group sees a lot of value in what Wayne brings to the table...behind the scenes. Just not a "face of the organization" kind of guy. Perhaps they'd leave his salary the same to take on a huge role with Player Development / Scouting...since both of those jobs are now vacant. Maybe he wants to feed his family and knows that another GM job won't be handed to him. Either way, I was asked my opinion and gave it.
  2. The only time I use either one is if I'm making a Roast Beef sandwich and in that case I prefer Miracle Whip but will use Mayo if that is my only option.
  3. Maybe keeping Wayne around in another capacity -- Dir. of Scouting, for example. Just spit-balling. Yes, I "think" Walt will be involved with the Reds officially in 2008. And, I'd bet you a hot fudge sundae that he was at the meeting (or at least one of the meetings) with Dusty before he became the manager.
  4. Yes, I'm still saying that. ...and I still think the Front Office was cleaned out in September because the "new guy" wants to bring in his own peeps and didn't want to be a hatchet man. Not to mention, by doing it in September it gives them 6 months to find other jobs around the Baseball world where they would have been in a tough spot if it came in January.
  5. Sadly, that was the first thing I thought of. If you are looking to rob an NFL player's house I'd think you'd be smart enough to know when to do it and them not be home. Right? I mean those Redskin games are televised and the schedule is fairly easy to find.
  6. Sorry, yes. I went off-the-cuff and had forgot about that incident. Point well taken.
  7. The only tool that Wayne is going to need to utilize in the next 60 days is "Resume' Builder". Let me clarify my point earlier: I LOVE the fact that Bob is spending money to increase the payroll to $80 million+. Great sign. A solid commitment to winning which bodes well for the future. It is also a good sign that they have specifically targeted an area of weakness. I just think "over-paying" for a guy (as many have said the Reds have to do) makes it difficult for the value to ever approach the cost. The last time the Reds "over-paid" for a FA pitcher was Eric Milton. Yucky. That being said, I'd have rather seen Cordero get this deal than Kyle Lohse or Jon Leiber. On the last issue, the Mariners have one of the best Catching prospects in baseball (Clement) and are looking for a way to get him on the field. Their 31 year old import behind the dish is expendable and has a nice stick. Many believe they'd swap him for Junior if the Reds would pick up a portion of the salary (which they would). Kills two birds with one stone.
  8. Skewed somewhat by going 12 for 12 from the stripe. He wasn't very good against Xavier, I think you'd admit that. He is going to get called for a zillion charges this year against solid fundamental teams. Please tell me this kid isn't the punk that he appears to be; it's always more fun pulling for Chris Pauls than DaJuan Wagners.
  9. I'd say something in this range: Boone Co. 14 Trinity 38
  10. As most predicted, this is going to be a great game between two great teams. Everyone thinking JH would get man-handled appear to have been wrong. This one should go down to the wire. Would love to have made the trip.
  11. Onside kick to start the game. Coach Matney emptying the bag of tricks early. Nicely done.
  12. I wonder if this kind of contract means the Junior to Seattle for their Catcher deal is further along than we were led to believe.
  13. To echo what I said elsewhere, he is nasty but that is a TON of money for a closer in this market.
  14. The Sawx are reportedly offering something in the $5 million range with incentives. I'd feel better paying Wood $7.5 million plus "X" amount at 25, 30, and 40 saves than I would paying Cordero (again, who I really like and realize is NASTY) $12 million guaranteed. That is just a TON of money for a guy that will pitch in about 5.6% of your innings (82 innings out of 1,458). I'm just not sure the cost to value ratio makes that a good deal. However, if they get Cordero, it should end all / most bully concerns. Burton takes the 8th and Stormy slides down to man the 7th.
  15. If it's true that the Reds are offering $12 million per for 4 years for Cordero I'd look elsewhere. I love Cordero and he is filthy, but that is a TON of money. As much as I like him, I hope he sticks in Milwaukee for the 4 / $42 that they're offering.
  16. A. Free Agent B. Won't be a starter again C. Dusty Baker D. Reds need a closer E. Just makes sense...
  17. He'd be great but I still think when all is said and done Kerry Wood will be the Reds' closer in 2008.
  18. I'll be shocked if the final doesn't look like this: LCC -- 0 - 7 range HHS -- 50 - 59 range Truly, Coach Mueller can name his score in this one. I'm sure he'll have a plan in mind of what he wants it to be and that will be that. However, that should in no way diminish the great season that LCC has had. Enjoy the trip.
  19. A. They seem healthy. I stole that line from a good friend that posts on BGP and I love it. B. I hope Billy Clyde would be held to a higher standard. Just saying. C. CSHS, when on Earth were you at Racer's? ...and why didn't you call me?
  20. With baby swiss and Durkee's dressing. The best.
  21. Hate to hear about these types of things. Good luck in your recovery and sorry your Wallyball days are (presumably) behind you. Best of luck with everything TTC...
