Hager was the most important player on the best team in the 12th region. Blevins had higher scoring totals but was out played when they went head to head at Wayne with Mercer coming away with an easy W. I wish they decided after the region tournament as that would be a big factor.

I probably didn't word that the best. I don't think he is going anywhere and didn't mean to imply that. It will hurt losing Dylan but returning Trevon as the best player in the region Mercer should be ok.

Is this a trick question? I agree with Bounce. There are very few that I have been impressed with.

Mercer will be rebuilding somewhat next year similar to what Lincoln and Boyle are doing this year after losing a deep and good senior class. If Trevon stays they will be fine. SW Pulaski should be the favorite next year with all other teams fairly even.

You have a guy on here from Boyle talking smack to the Belfry people about how they would beat them and getting mad when somebody says something back. Bragging about how they dominated their conference with a team way older than everybody else. Holdbacks won't matter in High school and if this group wins state in high school they should be congratulated. In my opinion it matters in middle school if you have a ton of holdbacks. Being humble and lot less arrogant would go a long way.

Everything being said on here is correct except there is one fact being left out. All of the 8th graders you are talking about as playing as 7th graders were held back. I know that isn't against the rules and several teams across the state do that. But the conference you play in may have 1-2 kids on each team that are held back. I would say Boyle has 7-8 of those group that your are talking about and possibly more will be 15 soon or already 15. It makes a difference in middle school when bodies are changing. This group may win state 4 years from now but right now you aren't comparing apples to apples within the conference with the number of holdbacks that are on Boyle's Team. You hold back 7-8 of Anderson's best players and pretty sure they dominate also.

Coach B is doing good things at Mercer. Lots of excitement and trying to change the culture in the program.

Yeah I don't agree either but it is the world we live in now unfortunatley. What cracks me up are the parents that try to say it is for academic or emotional reasons. Be real and just say its for athletics and that for whatever reason you don't think your kid can cut it or be at the level you want them to be at against their own age group and you feel it is best for them to play against younger kids. I can take that rather than trying to say its for academics.

There is an 8th grade team in your county that could start five 15 year old 8th graders on their middle school team and bring a few more off the bench

Agreed he didn't have a good game that night. I would still take Trevon because he was 14 most of his freshmen basketball season. I would say Fitzgerald turned 16 before the basketball season started even though both were Freshmen. That tells me that Trevon probaly has a higher ceiling and will end up a better player by the time their senior season rolls around.

Oh ok. Mercer has had a rule in place for several years that if you repeat a grade in middle school you automatically sit out of all athletics during the hold back year. It makes sense that if an athlete is having such major issues with school or whatever it may be that they need to be held back that they should probable concentrate on academics for that year they are repeating. That's why when the KHSAA came out with the new rule it wasn't a huge deal because we already had it in place. I hope he gets to play. He hasn't played in sports in a while.

He hasn't played a full football season since 6th grade. He was in 8th grade last year at Mercer so he is in 8th grade again at Boyle this year? I thought new rules say that if you repeat a grade in middle school that you have to sit out a year of middle school athletics? In other words you have to sit out your hold back year.

Agreed they are a dominate group. If you take 8-10 of your best players in a class and hold them back then you should dominate in middle school.

yeah how old is he? What grade a player is in doesn't really make a difference anymore with all of the hold backs. He could be 13 and in 7th grade which would be impressive or he could be getting ready to turn 15 which is not impressive at all.

For the last several years the kids that haven't been held back 1-2 years have had to play up. If your interested in having a kid improve then there is nothing wrong with playing up. If you are worried about wins then play them down a la 1-2 year holdbacks.
