In your opinion who has done the best job coaching their team this year?

 

In my personal opinion it has been Brandon Brewer at Powell Co. they won for the first time ever against Breathitt Co. are 4-0 in district play (5-3 overall) and are on the verge of only the 2nd winning season in program history. There was talk of trying to eliminate football all together in the district prior to the season.

 

I also think David Buchanan at Mercer Co., Antoine Sims at Tates Creek and the new coach at Waggener have done very good jobs this year.

I agree with Brandon Brewer from Powell County. I also think the staff at Fleming County have done a great job. They lost 21 seniors from last years team and most didnt think they would do much this year. They beat Russell at Russell for the first time in forever and they have the opportunity to finish 7-3 and in a 3 way tie for 1st in the district.

It's a little early for this, but the coaching job at Barnes has done thus far at Caldwell County has been impressive. Loosing Sindelar and moving up a class this season most thought this to be a down season for the Tigers. However, it appears this could be the best team Caldwell has had in recent memory. Whether or not this squad can reach a state championship game is still up in the air to say the least.

Coach Wiggins at Bishop Brosssrt has to be mentioned to validate this thread. This was a school ready to give up on football last year to being ranked in the top 10 this year! To do this without the proper facilities is amazing in itself. His players believe in him and he had gained tremendous community support for his efforts. COY!

Chuck Smith at Boyle County. Individually, with the exception of Robbins, the 2015 Rebs are not great football players. Collectively, they are a machine. Smith and his staff of veteran assistants are doing a terrific job of "coaching 'em up".

Whoever the Coach is at Scott High. The Eagles won their first district championship last night. That's big time.

Johnny Poynter and Gene Peterson at Bath County.

It's a little early for this, but the coaching job at Barnes has done thus far at Caldwell County has been impressive. I completely agree. I think he has done a fantastic job this year. Especially a guy alot of you guys had "buried and GONE, GONE!" as Nick Saban would say.

Why do the coaches that get it done year after year after year not get love for coach of the year as much as they should? Why does a program that traditionally has weak performances, have one great season and get a COY? Those who build and maintain a program year in and year out are more impressive to me. Like the Belfry's, Johnson Central's, Highlands, Trinity's, Central's, Bowling Green's, Beechwoods, etc. These coaches are doing it right and it gets taken for granted more often than not.

 

Not to say the ones previously mentioned have not done a great job this season, because they have. I just wouldnt rate them as a better coach then those at some of the dominate programs and subsequently would not say they are a better coach in this season just because said program is having its "once in a decade run".

 

I think great programs take it for granted that the men at helm have something to do with that. Just my superficial opinion of course, but sometimes I think its like not giving Lebron James MVP every year because it gets old seeing the same people win it even though its merited.

Because at some of those jobs you have to try harder to lose than win. Most of them currently in the positions you listed came in to a program with great tradition, good facilities and most importantly parental support.

Could you coach Trinity to a title? Could the coach at Phelps do it? Do they even need a coach or can the parents (who rotate every four years or less) call the plays and let the players use the facilities on their own? Since you brought them up, Trinity plays a really tough schedule year in and year out and churn out wins. Coaching is a big part of that love them or hate them. You cannot just bring anyone into that situation and see the same level of success automatically.

 

Your kinda making my point that the coach gets overlooked. We just say Trinity should win, but there is something to managing a program with such high expectation. If your not successful that support can turn on you real quick. It might not be impressive to watch Trinity win, but to me its impressive that their coach does it year after year after year with all those expectations. I would think its easier to coach at a place with no expectations and no "hot seat".

 

Again, just my opinion.

Mark Clark Hoptown, what he has done is amazing as the program was a disaster when he took it over and now they should end up 9-1 and maybe a Regional championship against South Warren. Great job
