The 3rd base coach (Manager) had the runner on third break for the plate as soon as the ball bounced away. The batter, however, held up, because he didn't think he went. The only play was to first.

Thoroughly confused as to what should have happened in this situation. I do know there was an umpire error, which the guy admitted, but I think they erred again after that. Bases loaded. 2 outs. 2-2 count. Breaking ball in the dirt. Check swing that bounces away from the catcher. Catcher appeals to first on the check swing. 1B umpire gives the 'strike' sign. Batter takes off for first base realizing it is the dropped third strike. All other runners are moving also. Umpire, seeing the 1B umpire give him the strike signal, announces "BATTER IS OUT" (this is where he erred). Catcher, who had retrieved the ball and had it cocked back ready to throw, hears the umpire, and doesn't throw down to first. Fielding team in the runs off the field. Batting team's manager storms onto the field and insist that it should have been a live ball (he is correct, I believe). Umpires reconvene, decide that the batting team's manager was correct, and tell fielding team's manager his team needs to go back on the field, the runner is safe at first because the catcher didn't throw down, and that the run counts. Fielding team's fans go nuts, as they (correctly) said the catcher had a play on the throw down to first, but didn't throw it because the umpire proclaimed the batter out. Coach argued to no avail. Ended up being a big play as they scored 2 more runs after this happened, and that K would've ended the inning. Can someone that knows more than I about umpiring tell me what SHOULD have happened? Something doesn't seem right. When the umpire says you're out, aren't you out regardless?

I really don't think there is going to ever be any situation that satisfies all of the what ifs... I think it's always going to be subjective, and that's how it's always been at places I've been... If the coach thinks they earned the letter, they earned it... Gotta trust your coaches to make the right call.

Congrats to all of the girls. Here's a fun fact for you... Junior All Stars Haley Delaney of Boone, Whitney Quillen of Highlands, and Casey Kohls of NCC along with the junior all stars from Dayton once played on a Dayton team that played in the 'county league' as youngsters. If I remember correctly, they won the county league championship one of those years... Always interesting to see how the faces matriculate to different places as they get older.

How do they decide what each kid's 'score' will be?

It sounds like from this thread people in the know have a good idea that it's either wvu or ohio.

I know that Coach Key is a really good coach that gets a lot out of his talent.

Coming from a small school kinda guy, I disagree. Jump is a good player, no doubt, and had some amazing games. But seemed like he took 75% of his teams shots, if not more. He deserves to be on the list, but not first team. IMO.

So what's the kids recruiting ceiling? Will any low level high major DI's offer? As in bottom of the conference teams in one of the power conferences?

Glad to see Howard from Ludlow make the list... DIII kids usually have a tough time getting recognition with the bigger school kids, but Howard could play anywhere in NKY. Good to see the Enquirer saw it too.

This might be a bit off topic but... Why does a single A district with one high school need an assistant Super?

I've always wondered this. Why is a 'foul tip' and a 'foul ball' not the same thing? Such as, if it's a fou l tip and the catcher catches the ball, didn't he catch a foul ball and the batter should be out?

I thought that if the run scores before the 3rd out is made then it counts?

To be quite frank, I'd rather have someone that has a clue about coaching and is working towards their teaching certification than someone who is a teacher but doesn't have a clue about how to coach coaching the team.

They lose Lambert. I watched them several times. Looked like he not only did a lot for them with the ball to the tune of about 15 a game, but stability wise too. Heady player on a team of short fused kids. Talented team though. What's the odds Paris can win it? I've heard their pure talent is up there.

I would think Brossart vs Paris would be the anticipated matchup in the finals?

Some coaching staffs have 7 or 8 coaches on the bench to do all kinds of stats, can delegate who enters them into the computer, calls in scores, etc. Then there are some schools that have a head coach that teaches at the school, maybe one paraprofessional assistant and a dad that helps 'sometimes.' Perhaps instead of not caring, being 'too lazy', too uninformed, or doing a bad job coaching, they would rather spend their time say, I don't know... Improving their team? Or maybe even something crazy like educating the students they teach? I know I know. Sending in a ballot for this thing would only take a few minutes. That's not my argument. My argument is that the whole 'they don't do stats... they must be bad coaches!' gets tiring. I know several people that have been in that situation and they are doing the best the can as much as they can for their kids....

It wouldn't make sense for NCC to go anywhere that Newport doesn't go, and wouldn't make sense for Newport to go anywhere Bellevue doesn't go, and wouldn't make sense for Bellevue to go anywhere Dayton doesn't go, etc. etc.... In short, the 36th is pretty tied together. IMO.

I'll say this, you could be absolutely right, and I didn't see the kid play a lot. But I did see him in the state title game, at 7 feet tall, shoot a lay up on a put back attempt and hit nothing but the backboard. Looks like he's got a ways to go.... So if his parents decided to stay in Charlotte, what was the purpose of him coming here for a year?

I agree. And I don't like that at all... Just come out and say it then instead of this bologna about 'not financially sustainable'...
