It used to be on a vote. Now it's on a rotation. Usually the same teams volunteered to host, and the votes went to the Newport a lot as one of the bigger gym or Dayton because of tradition (and a similarly big gym).
I think it was at Dayton in 2000 but I could be wrong.
Here's the thing. The top of the 9th is pretty darned good. The problem is after about the top half dozen or so, it falls off a cliff.
Still overall, the 9th are better than a lot of regions
I understand your point but Ludlow had a nice run of a couple years in the 2000's with the names like Wise, Arnold, Penick, etc. I'm sure it was sweet nonetheless... Always a thrill for any of the small schools to beat the red Tigers
Bracken v Dayton
John McGregor (Canada) v Carrol
Villa v Berea
Bellevue v Menifee
1.5 hour intervals
Then there are 8 games the following day I believe with the finals at 7:30.
Quite honestly I think Holmes needs to get better OFFENSIVELY.... Lack shot makers from what it looked like last night. Can be zoned into an offensive funk.
Could be an interesting one... Neither team has really played a close game yet. Bellevue with the two big wins over Heritage and Latin followed by big losses vs tougher competition. Dayton played a semi tight one with a 10 point game at Villa, but other than that seems to still be trying to get their feet on the ground. Bellevue probably will have the best returner from last season with Woodyard, but you know Brewer will make it awful physical inside.
One thing is for sure though. There's a bit of a misconception that these Dayton/Bellevue games are bigger on the football field. But if you've been to one of these you know the hard court battles are just as important to these kids. Usually a great atmosphere for small school hoops!
In terms of experienced talent, Silver Grove had the most coming back this year in D3... Turcios, Miller, Kuntz, Politt, etc. And they've been playing together pretty much since they learned to dribble a ball.
