Derion Talbert would be a major loss as he can be used as a running back but he is a game breaker as a kick returner and a threat anytime he touches the ball either as a runner, receiver, or kick returner. The backfield has a strong stable of excellent running backs but I feel Derion's added value is as a receiver and a kick returner. It also keeps opposing defenses to use double coverage on Aveion Chenault. Also when Aveion and Talbert are both back as kick returners it really affects the kickoff and punt decisions. Many teams elect to pooch kick on kickoffs and angle out of bounds on punts which usually gives Frederick Douglass excellent field position. Dakari Talbert and Peyton Smith are both excellent running backs who gets extra yardage after the initial contact. Aveion Chenault is difficult to defend because of his length and athleticism, hard to defend on "jump balls." Frederick Douglass must play under control, protect their quarterback, and definitely reduce their penalties.

They have added a wrinkle from time to time on their Winged T offense and the defense must remain disciplined and focused to stop it. FD is much improved with a healthy playmaker Derion Talbert back in the lineup which makes it harder to provide double coverage on Aveion Chenault and Madison Central must kick away from him as you don't want to attempt to tackles him in the open field. As mentioned before keep the game close as typically a Winged T offense does not play well coming back off a sizable deficit. One advantage to Douglass is that they have a lot of experience playing against this type of offense (Scott County in the past and Madison Central earlier this season). Also as mentioned earlier thy must come out focused and nit get behind early like the GRC game.

I like Corbin to win this one. The addition of RB Guy Bailey from Somerset and the Smith brothers on defense who made an early commit to Michigan but UK may now be in the picture. This only adds to an explosive offense triggered by QB Kade Elam and strengthens their defense. However never count out Lexington Catholic at home. QB Jackson Wasik is a gunslinger and he added a weapon this year with the transfer of WR Jackson Kreutzer from Henry Clay.

I like LCA to win the title but like the old adage says "To be the man you have to beat the man" and that is Beechwood and to ignore Mayfield and Owensboro Catholic would be a mistake.

Austin is the real deal! I saw him play a couple of weeks ago and as an edge rusher he lived in the opponent's backfield. When he lined up as a TE he was equally impressive and for his size a deep threat in their passing attack. Excellent size, speed and strength. Plays under control and checks off all the boxes.

I believe LCA will steadily improve throughout the season and peak by playoff time, their early season schedule is brutal. Brady Hensley is a force in the backfield and can catch the ball coming out of the backfield. Also excellent on defense at OLB/SS although they can't really afford to play him both ways although they did put him in for the final play against Bowling Green and he made the tackle. Kenyatta Hardge will be a force on the defensive line as he is big, strong, quick, and aggressive. They key is staying healthy and cutting down on the turnovers. I believe this is LCA's year but nobody will mail them the trophy there is a lot of football to be played this season. Grab the popcorn and enjoy the show.

6-2 2025 Ciara Byars another young star not fazed by the "big show" 47 points, 17 rebounds, and 6 blocked shots in first two games this year, major talent.

Leah Macy definitely wore her "Super Woman" cape tonight with 37 points, 15/20 free throws, 21 rebounds, 2 assists, one blocked shot, and one steal and played 32 minutes. A great win for Mercy Academy without the services of PG Alyssa Murphy out with an injury. We are living in interesting times in this state with some of the best groups of underclassmen I have ever seen. Think of a 2025 class including Leah Macy, ZaKiyah Johnson, Ciara Byars just to mention a few.

Ayanna Darrington is the real deal, 27 points and 29 rebounds in the regional final and 22 points and 18 rebounds tonight. 6-2, long, athletic, runs the floor, rebounds, defends, and scores. More important, finally getting healthy. Great numbers tonight 7/11 from the field, 8/8 free throws 22 points, 18 rebounds, four steals, and only one turnover. Above comments were spot-on they also return a lot of talent, the future looks bright.

Julia Hunt put on a show today, 21 points, 19 rebounds, eight blocks, 9/10 from the free throw line. Julia is also effective against the press either passing over it or when necessary can advance the ball off the bounce. Nejai Lewis also had an excellent game with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Lewis was 9/10 from the field and 2/2 from the line.

Excellent team win for the Lady Warriors Kinsley Molden 27 points 5 threes, Ayden Smiddy 20 points 4 threes, Jessalyn Flynn 13 points , and Kaylee Young 10 points. LexCath was led by Mary Margaret Hampton with 19 points and 8 rebounds, Katherine Truitt 18 points, 11 rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Lydia Kennedy recorded 16 points, five rebounds, and four assists.

Madison Central could be major player later this season once they recover from bumps and bruises from football. Big "3" in Hagan Harrison, Jaylen Davis, and Robby Todd. Unbelievable high flying athlete in Jayden Davis and several other solid players who will make major contributions. Also, should get Kenyatta Hardge back later in season. Guided by excellent coaching staff should battle Great Crossing, Lexington Catholic, Madison Southern, Frederick Douglass, etc for 11th Region supremacy.

Sacred Heart raced out to a 28-9 first quarter lead over a good Southwestern squad and easily earned the victory tonight. The Valkyries were lead by zakiyah Johnson with 27 points including three three point baskets, eight rebounds, and six assists. Reagan Bender added 17 points, four assists, and four steals. Triniti Ralston recorded 12 points, eight rebounds, three assists, and five steals. Angelina Pelayo added nine points and seven rebounds. Pelayo was four of four from the field. Kinsly Molden led Southwestern with 19 points including three three point baskets. Stats provided by Bob Tonini of Sacred Heart Academy.

Gavin Chadwell who transferred from Knox Central is a key addition to the Jaguar roster. Big, strong, and athletic will be a perfect compliment to Sheppard, Brock, and Davidson.

6-3 Jenna Sparks from Belfry to Pikeville.

It was a perfect storm for Oldham County, having a down season, decimated by injuries during the game at the QB position, and facing the opponent who were stinging by a resounding defeat at the hands of Pikeville. Add to it the fact that this was the first game back for Central star Brady Hensley returning from an injury and the return of star WR/DB Jayden West from a one game suspension.

I have read conflicting reports on Jayden West's suspension for unsportsman like penalties. I had heard it was a two game suspension but after missing the Pikeville games others have reported he may only set out one game, Either way he is an elite game changer at WE/DB and his return plus the return of star RB Brady Hensley would surely bolster the Indians chances of a strong finish.

First of all, no excuses Pikeville is that good. Second Madison Central being without the services of Kenyatte Hardge, Jayden West, and Brady Hensley are severely hampered. The Indians barely squeaked by LCA, Dunbar, and Madison Southern and had blowout wins over South Laurel and Lafayette. Jayden West is out one more game and Hensley should be good to go next week. However we now face Oldham County, Bryan Station, GRC, and Southwestern. I feel they will be much improved down the stretch but could go anywhere from 3-1 to 1-3 there is a lot of work to go and that is why the games are decided on the field and not on paper.

I graduated from the old Burnside High School in 1964. Pulaski County at that time had several high schools including Burnside, Nancy, Shopville, Ferguson, Pulaski County, Eubank and Somerset. Southwestern was not in existence at that time. Somerset was the site of most of the tournaments then and they have done a great job of keeping the character of the location over the years.

Soph RB Brady Hensley carried the ball 28 times for 320 yards and five touchdowns to lead Madison Central tonight.

Good points all, not counting COVID games Frederick Douglass and Bryan Station have combined for 7-1 so far this season with Bryan Stations only loss coming to Frederick Douglass. Paul Laurence Dunbar, Henry Clay, Lafayette, and Henry Clay have combined for a 2-16 record.

Frederick Douglass got a lot of transfers from the other schools when they came into existence which weakened the other schools for years. Bryan Station is starting to make a comeback. This often happens with new schools with newer facilities and making the right hires to lead the programs. Another example is Great Crossing which is starting to challenge Scott County in most sports. Also you can look at GRC which gets a lot of transfers. One look at their new facilities anyone would like to play there.

The new QB is Hagan Harrison a new name in football but well known in the basketball circles.

Excellent game, last play could have gone either way. A little more air on the ball and the Flyers would have won but excellent play by Luke Sheperson "eyes" on the ball all the way and getting the hand up to deflect the ball.
