Boone County 46 Cooper 44
Article: http://nky.cincinnati.com/article/AB/20110223/SPT0302/102240367/Downs-finds-redemption-?odyssey=mod|newswell|text|FRONTPAGE|s The more and more I hear and read about Coach Sullivan, the more and more I believe he may be one of the best coaches in the area. What a great quote this is from Sullivan. "We said, 'Tonight is going to prepare you for something harder than this. There are a lot harder things in life than losing a basketball game.' You talk about the 'Big Picture' and having perspective. I've only seen Cooper play a couple times and regardless of the score or the calls from the refs, Coach Sullivan coaches every possession.... I'd let my kid play for this guy. Congrats to Cooper Downs for coming through in the clutch last night!!!! Big free throws!!!! Great kid and great family.

Boone County 46 Cooper 44
Pretty low scoring game for Boone. 46 points is their lowest scoring output of the season. Did Cooper 'slow it down' or did Boone run their half court sets to keep Cooper in it? I'm used to seeing Boone in the 60's and 70's. Just curious....

Newport Central Catholic 69 Conner 51
I wasn't at the game and can't find a box score anywhere, however, I heard Miller for the Breds had a big night. I know he does a lot of the little things for this team that go somewhat unnoticed in the box scores (rebounds, picks, back screens, off the ball stuff, etc.). It's good to hear that he put the ball in basket in this one. Was anyone there that can provide a recap of the game? Handy Manny? NCC 13 -2 in their last 15 games with a game against the Cru this evening!!! Not a bad way to wind down the regular season and to get ready for districts and regionals......

Covington Catholic 73 Boone County 66
I will be speaking to the family today and will provide an update...... I know he was extremely upset, and rightfully so, that evening. I know he and the family appreciate the kind words written about him on BGP's! He is a very good kid with a bright future on and/or off the court. Tomorrow night in Florence is Senior night, so I am sure he is looking forward to that.

JV Regional Championship Game Conner vs. Notre Dame
Yup, thank you. I couldn't recall if it was Freshman or JV last year. Sorry for the mis info. Should be a good game on Sunday.

JV Regional Championship Game Conner vs. Notre Dame
I would have liked to have seen a rematch of NDA v. Boone Co.. The first one was a battle with NDA prevailing in the end. I believe NDA's only loss in 2 years was to Sacred Heart. I want to say NDA JV went undefeated last season.

Boone at Conner 1/28 Predictions
I heard he is still a few weeks away if at all. He either just got fitted for a brace or will be getting fitted for a brace within the next few days. I don't know the whole story, however, from what I am gathering, surgery is inevitable. I believe they said he cannot do anymore damage. Again, I get all this information second and third hand so I can't say with 100% certainty. Fingers are crossed for the young man though!

NKY POY: One Month to Go
3 excellent posts VOR!!!! Gielser is living up to (and surpasing) the Pre Season expectations. No doubt he is POY. I also agree that Trevan Brown is #2. He has really led the Rebels to a very good year and especially with Montgomery going down. When, and I don't know, was the last time a Rebel basketball player averaged more than 20 points a game? I'd say it has been awhile! I'm glad to see Brown finally getting some love!!! In my opinion, he has been under utilized at Boone for the past couple years.

Cooper 45 Ryle 42
Hopefully, the weather doesn't come into play on Friday, however, how big is the Cooper / Boone Co. game now? Cooper seems to be on the upswing and Boone is kind of leveling off. I know they met in the LIT and it was close throughout with Boone pulling away in the end. Congrats to Cooper on this win. Should be interesting on Friday in Florenece. Cooper is right in the mix for the district!! I agree about Coach Sullivan. I've only seen Cooper play a couple times this year and he coaches from tip to last whistle. I'm sure the boys love playing for him.

Scott 74 Boone County 66
It looks like Brown with another STRONG game (31 points) and Crabtree stepping up with 14. I was at a middle school game last night and unable to attend, however, McQuery with only 1 three pointer? How many did he shoot? Did they go box and one to shut him down? Any game recaps? Any updates on Montgomery? It seems when he was in the lineup they had a little bit more of a balanced attack. Of course, it could just be this one game. It looks like they are 2-2 since his injury. Big district game against Cooper on Friday. I believe Boone won earlier in the year by 14 over Cooper in the LIT with Montgomery, let's hope they can do the same without him Friday.

St.Henry at Boone Co 1/14 Predictions
Since St. Henry can't score, I'll say: Boone - 52 Cru - 37

Holmes / Covington Catholic Predictions (1/12)
I watched Holmes against NCC and thought they struggled with their height/bulk. I see the same thing happening here. As long as Cov Cath doesn't allow a track meet to break out, their size carries the day. Cov Cath - 67 Holmes - 59

Boone County / Newport Central Catholic Predictions (1/12)
Game is at NCC Tonight. Is it still on? I think the Brown and Giesler match up will be a battle. Hopefully, it doesn't come down to foul trouble between the two of them. In my opinion, they are 2 of the best big men in NKY this year (I don't think I am out on a limb on that one). For Boone's sake, I hope they offset each other (18 - 20 pts. / 10 - 14rebs). I think Highchew creates some issues for Boone's guards. The loss of Montgomery hurts Boone's chances in this one (and really, going forward). If McQuery isn't hitting from the outside, I believe, outside of Brown, Boone will struggle for points. It will be interesting to see who steps up for the Rebels. Crabtree could be a key tonight. The loss in their last game without Montgomery makes me nervous in this one. NCC - 72 Boone - 59

Boone County's Travis Montgomery Injury
http://www.kypost.com/dpp/sports/mon...ne-win-over-sk The word I am hearing is torn ACL and Meniscus and surgery is likely. I believe the MRI is going to be read by additional doctors to see if there is a possibility of avoiding surgery for Mr. Montgomery. I'm hearing that there is a slim, slim, slim chance of rehabing in an effort to avoid surgery at all costs. Hence, the reason for the additional readings of the MRI. Tough break for a great kid in his senior season with a bright college basketball future ahead of him. Hopefully, no surgery is needed but it doesn't look good at this point. Prayers for a speedy recovery TMont!

NKY Player of the Years: Female and Male
Congratulations to JILL LEEDOM the PLAYER OF THE YEAR for girls soccer. :notworthy: I can't imagine many defensive players have ever won this award. It's like the Heisman Trophy, it seems like the award always goes to the best offensive player. Way to go Charles Woodson, err, Jill Leedom!!!

Bryson Warner voted 6A Coach of the year
U-da-man Coach Warner!!!! Congratulations and well deserved!!!

How good could Ryle be?
Well said!!!! As I pointed out earlier, my son's experience with the Union Raiders was incredible and rewarding. He has his helmet (Raider shield and all) proudly displayed in his room. He can't wait for next year to start and a lot of that is because of the coaches of the Union Raiders and his current Union Raider teammates and future Ryle Teammates. Being new to the Union area, I can let you know that we attended all of Ryle's games this year and the main reason was because of my sons experience on the Union Raiders and the 'family' atmosphere that surrounds the program. Once a Raider always a Raider!

How good could Ryle be?
At no time did I imply that Coach Warner coached this team as he DID NOT. The team was formed due to Boone Co being one of the last Counties in the state not to have Middlle school football, and the BCPWFL has a draft. Therefore, our kids never got to play together until they were Freshmen. Jefferson Co now has middle school football and KY has one of the best MS football organizations in the nation. They expect to have 200 members this coming season and even have a state playoff. The Union Raiders played in the NKMSFL and are now part of the KYMSFA. They have a coaching staff that follows the Ryle system to get there kids ready for that. No different than any other County or MS program getting their kids ready for HS.

How good could Ryle be?
The Union Raiders were not picked by the High School coaches. I don't even believe there was a 'pick' or a selection process, a group of parents got together and put a 'select' team together. The team was not affiliated with the BCPWFL in any way. They did compete in the NKY Middle School football league as a 'first year team' and were not a full fledged member (meaning they just played the teams, etc.). I believe they are going to be a full fledge member this year. The team is made up of kids that attend Gray Middle School and a couple from other middle schools who will feed into Ryle High School. The team was organized as an AAU team and played teams from Lexington, Dayton OH, Middletown, etc..

How good could Ryle be?
Per my post in another thread about feeder programs and Coach Warner....... I agree with you 100% KY Rebel, Coach Warner and the whole Ryle program has done an outstanding job and they continue to push the program forward! A perfect case in point was this years Union Raiders football team. I thought the best thing about the Union Raiders was the relationship they had with the Ryle varsity team. Whether it was Coach Warner inviting the team into the locker room prior to varsity games, having them walk out on the field with the varsity team prior to games, standing on the sidelines with the team, personally attending the Union Raiders games, having the varsity players help out with practice, sharing their practice field (and game field), sharing their locker room, allowing the Union Raiders to run similar (or the same) offense as the varsity team and even allowing the Union Raiders to have the same helmet decal as the varsity team. All in all, it was a great experience it seemed for the boys of the Union Raiders and a lot of the credit goes to the Ryle varsity coaching staff, Rick Scherrer, Ted Morgan, and all the assistant coaches for making the inaugural season of the Union Raiders, in my opinion, an overwhelming success. Not to mention the team was very good and won a ton of games!!! I believe the Ryle program is going to be in good hands for years to come with the progression that has been established with the Union Raiders. These boys said time and time again how they couldn't wait to play all the way through high school together.
