  1. I think we need to get back on topic....... Who else should be on the list? Who was missed? Remember, if you add one, you have to remove one....
  2. Ok, perhaps I am missing something here, in my book 'system' and 'style of play' mean the same thing. I may need a definition, word origin and can I have both used in a sentence. Only kiddng.... I guess I should say, in my opinion, Boone's 'style of play' (or system???) isn't condusive to fully utilize Boone's players talents (Montgomery, Brown, Cotton, Popp, Gabbard, etc.) for the past few years. My definition........ AAU 'style of play' = John Calipari's 'system' >>> up and down the court, helter skelter, cutting and slashing, etc. 9th region basketball 'style of play' = Tubby Smith's 'system' >>> walk ball up the court, set offense, running plays, motion, etc. Does that sound about right?
  3. Actually coach4life brougth up the 'system' talk in his post. Thanks Coach!! I just agreed with him. Lol.
  4. Actually coach4life brougth up the 'system' talk in his post. Thanks Coach!! I just agreed with him. Lol.
  5. Dispite the 'system', he is still on the list. And, it seems most, if not everyone on here agrees he belongs on the list. You are the one stating he doesn't belong on the list. I disagree with this statement (and that ok, that's why this board exists. lol). I believe (and it's only my opinoin) that the Boone system is not condussive to his (and others) style of play. Whereas, with his AAU team, a more up and down the court and a more spreadout system (fewer number of set plays, walking the ball up the court, etc.), he shined more than in high school. It really comes down to debating who is on the list, who is not and who should be on the list. You are saying out of the top 10 players, he is the only one that doesn't deserve to be on the list. I'm saying not only should he be, but also Trevan Brown should be as well (or should be close). I know I'm a Boone homer. I take it personally only because it gets frustrating seeing the Boone players (Montgomery, Brown, Cotton, Popp, Gabbard, etc.), year after year, not being able to utilize their talents to the fullest on the basketball court. That's all.
  6. No, but running the 'system' in practice takes away from the layup line, which causes players to miss layups to win region titles...... lol.
  7. We'll save the 'system' conversation for antoher thread. Here, we are discussing the top 10 players in NKY, which you feel Travis Montgomery clearly doesn't belong on the list. While others tend to disagree: I really don't know what the issue is you have with Travis (spurrned AAU coach, etc.), however, to say he is NOT a top 10 player in NKY this year is rediculous.
  8. We'll see if the 'system' allows for him to be THE MAN. If he's allowed to play, he'll be the man, however, if he's not, Boone will continue to run the motion offense and score 50 points a game. Travis will get his 10 - 12 ppg, 5-6 rebounds per game, 2 - 3 assists per game. Just like last year. We'll see.
  9. Ding, ding, ding..... Winner, winner, Chicken Dinner!!!!! This has been my argument for years with BCHS basketball. Their 'system' doesn't allow for athletes/basketball players to shine and show off their skills (like AAU does). That is why you see glimpes of really nice play and times of him disappearing, heck, there are long stretches of games when the WHOLE BOONE TEAM disappears. To say Travis isn't a top 10 player in the Northen Kentucky is ridiculous!!! He's top 5, easy!!! I would throw in Trevan Brown as top 10 (or close to it). The problem is, THE BOONE SYSTEM!!!! From reading these posts, perhaps I am incorrect, however, it is sounding like Dixie is loaded this year. We've brought up 4 players in a discussion of the top 10 players in NKY. They must be the early favorites to run away with the region with all that talent!!!
  10. Whoops, sorry, didn't see the two Dixie players listed.
  11. 10 players from 10 different schools and no Holmes players?
  12. Correct. In my opinion, it should be universal for the state. It's one way or the other for all districts, it shouldn't be up to each district with regard to blind draw / seeding. Nor should it depend on the sport. Beechwoodfan - When I say it 'doesn't matter', I mean that the argument for a blind draw versus a seeding doesn't matter because I don't see it changing. No matter how much it should be seeded, and I believe we agree there, that as long as the 'smaller / weaker' teams have a vote there is no way they will agree to seeding. If I'm Cov. Latin or Ludlow, I would vote for the blind draw everytime to give their teams a chance at regions. That's why I say it doesn't matter, because they can make the argument that their teams should get a 'chance' to go to regions and the blind draw is really their only oppurtunity. I disagree with that logic by those schools, however, that is the argument they will ALWAYS make! That is why it doesn't matter. I also agree with you that the blind district draw takes the Beechwood / Scott game out from last year if NDA and Beechwood would have played in the first round of the districts. As a side note, in my opinion, Beechwood should have won last year. They had Soctt right where they wanted/needed them. Heck, as NDA fans, we were rooting for our district partner to pull off that win. Then we could have had an all district regional final. Which would have been cool. That match-up has no chance of occurring again this year because of the blind draw. :irked:
  13. Keep dreaming Hulk and Cacdawg and perhaps ONE DAY your dream will come true, however, today won't be that day. NDA in two and Beechwood will be lucky to score 20 in either set. I really think there needs to be a state mandate on these district games instead of each district voting on whether or not to do a blind draw (which I believe happens in this district) compared to seeding. I understand why Ludlow and Cov. Latin vote for the blind draw (case in point, this year where the best two teams in the district are on the same side of the bracket) so one of them, every once and a while, will go to the regional tournament. This argument can be made either way, I can see both sides, so it really doesn't matter. What's the saying..... it is what it is? As far as the student section goes...... Beechwood does have a great student section and they will be a factor tonight. I'm all for cheering, chanting, etc., however, it does need to stay on the respectful side, which I am sure it will (not always been the case from years past). I'm sure the Beechwood administration will be in attendence (since they are the host school for districts) and will ensure that the students keep everything respectful. Good Luck to both teams and may the better team win!!!
  14. Thanks bluefan3 for the udpate and clarification. 1st - Assumption 2nd - St. Joesph (St. Louis) 3rd - Sacred Heart 4th - Louis. Mercy MNCM - To answer your question about other tournaments leading up to Districts, Regionals..... I know Notre Dame is off to Chicago on Oct. 1st and 2nd for the Nike Challenge which has a very strong field from across the country.
  15. NDA went 2-0 on Friday evening beating Presentation in 2 and Kettering Alter in 2. On Saturday, NDA lost to Sacred Heart in two (25-17 and 25-21) before falling to St. Henry (25-15 and 25-15) in a match controlled by St. Henry from start to finish. NDA finished Saturday with a victory over Lou. Holy Cross in 3 to finish, I believe in 7th place. Sacred Heart wound up winning the tournament in three over Louisville Mercy (22-25, 26-24, 25-15). I have not seen the final results of the tournament, however, I believe St. Henry finished 6th to bring home the highest finish of the NKY schools.
  16. Wow, great link.... http://www.eteamz.com/KVCA/news/index.cfm?id=5000942&cat=0&SitePage= So, according to this link, the 9th region has 5 of the top 15 teams in the State???? Not to take shots at Ryle, however, if they are the 15th best volleyball team in the State....... And they say the Louisville area is the toughest......?
  17. Nice write up about Maria Froendhoff in the paper today. http://nky.cincinnati.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/AB/20100908/SPT0302/9090378/ Congrats to NCC on a nice win and some well deserved recognition for a very talented libero in Maria!!!:clap:
  18. Nice article in the paper written by Richard Skinner. http://nky.cincinnati.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/AB/20100908/SPT0302/9090377/ Good soccer match, both teams are very well coached and both teams played well. Leedom, in my opinion, was the best player on the field and really stepped it up after Notre Dame tied the match late in the game. Congrats to the Cru!

  20. http://scoreboard.12dt.com/scoreboard/khsaa/kyvb10/spec_6049 This is all the information I could find with regard to the Louisville Invitational Tournament this weekend. I am assuming Notre Dame Academy and St. Henry are in this tournament as well this weekend, however according to the KHSAA website NDA is showing in Chicago and St. Henry is not showing as playing this weekend. Hopefully, those are typos on the KHSAA website. I believe NDA is in Chicago at the end of Sept. / early Oct. This tournament looks stacked again!!! Especially when you take a look at the scores of the top two teams in the state last night when they met: Mercy 3 at Assumption 2 (22-25, 25-23, 9-25, 25-22, 15-13) And Sacred Heart lost to both teams last week: @ Mercy 0 - 3 (L) (25-21, 25-18, 25-18) @ Assumption 0 - 3 (L) (25-16, 25-13, 25-19) My stab at ranking the Kentucky Schools for this tournament.... Mercy #1 Assumption #1a Sacred Heart #3 Lou. Holy Cross #4 Notre Dame #4a St. Henry #4b Dupont Manual #7 NCC #8 Ryle #9 Is there any information available about this tournament? Is there a complete list of teams for this tournament?
  21. Is today the big match up between St. Henry and Notre Dame? Does anyone have the times? Any predictions?
  22. Is it normal to tie in high school golf? I show NCC has three ties this year already!! That seems to be very high when you are taking 4 golfers scores into account.
  23. Good point! I believe that is where 'Home Field Advantage' came from.....
  24. Congrats to Cov. Cath. and to Blake Bir on a very nice victory!!! 2nd varsity game and you throw for over 300 yards!!! That's pretty impressive. Nice bounce back win for the Colonels!!! Good Luck this Friday!
