  1. 73 points for BCHS????:dancingpa:banana: Perhaps the letter to Santa worked from the NCC / BCHS thread? Anyone know the reasoning of running and not running the set plays? Did it look like a conserted efforted by the Rebels to get out and use their athleticism? From the thread, it almost sounds like they did :notworthy:
  2. http://www.crickmervirtualcoach.com/BooneCounty/fanzonev.html In case you missed it.....:notworthy:
  3. Any thoughts on the game? Per my other posts with regard Boone's style of play... 49 - 47 >> Can't say who will win since it's a coin toss. If the Rebels play pressure defense and run the court..... Score: BCHS - 72 Conner - 59
  4. Amen E&E with regard to him playing more last year. We beat that :deadhorse: all last year.... Now, it looks like we will :deadhorse: with Boone's style of play this year....
  5. :thumb: And thank God for that!!!
  6. Wall will NOT allow this team to have a let down. I can't believe I can even say that about a Freshman. However, he is the MAN!!!! UK - 78 IU - 63 UK is on a roll and it won't stop in Bloomington!!! I don't see a possibility of an 'L' on the schedule until perhaps 1/12 in Gainesville. That place will absolutely be rockin'. However, with Wall running the point...... I'd take my chances!
  7. Just imagine how much better the stats would be if they actually ran up and down the court!!! Ok, I'll get off my soapbox about the 'style' of play by the Rebels. I hope Santa got my last post and reads it quickly!!!! Perhaps Christmas will come early for the Rebels!!! Please Santa, just one game..... just let them run and play pressure defense. I just want to see if it would actually work.
  8. 100% agree. Wasn't a timeout called prior to the free throw by Boone? Perhaps the stategy was to get the missed free throw (or inbound the ball), get the ball to mid court and then call a timeout. Then you can assess the situation. Are you down 1 (missed front end) Are you down 2 (missed the second free throw) Are you down 3 (made both) I'm ok with going that route with the timeout, however, I agree that it took to long to call it. I don't know if that is a coahing issue if the players couldn't get the ball to mid court quickly enough. I think the coaches waited as long as they could to get the ball to mid court and then finally had to just call the timeout when they did. I'm ok with that if the strategy was to call a time out. I also agree with you on Popp going to the basket. I left him off with regard to that in the letter to Santa only because I think he is Boone's biggest 3 point threat and like him roaming around the line. But, yes, add him to the group of drivers/slashers. Especially with his free throw shooting ability. draw some fouls. Anyway, I believe the offensive style Boone runs is going to hurt them in the long run this season. Just my opinion.
  9. Is Popp hurt? Only 7 minutes? Any reason he wasn't on the court at the end of the game?
  10. As for the game... How to handle the last 7 seconds..... After getting the rebound from the missed free throw, and putting the ball in your PG's hands..... I know it is 50/50 on whether to call a timeout in that situation or not and each coach has their own opinion. My thought is you have the ball in your point guards hands and players are spread out throughout the court. Why not let him (senior) go to the basket and make a play? Once the timeout was called, my first thought was that NCC still had a foul to give (5 team fouls) and they would use it when the ball got inbounded anyway and then you more than likely are inbounding the ball again with roughly two seconds left. So, my questions are: Do you agree with the timeout at 4 seconds with the ball at 3/4 court? Do you agree with NCC not fouling when they still had a foul to give? Just some things to banter.... Thoughts?
  11. 100% agree!:thumb::thumb: Plus, as the season goes, his teams seem to always get better and peak at the right time!!!
  12. Dear Santa, All I want for Christmas is to have Boone Co play man to man pressure defense full court (the heck with the zone defense!!! Pressure, pressure, pressure) and run with the ball on offense to give their talented, athletic, smart baksetball players as many scoring oppurtunities as possible. For one game, my present for the team would be > Gabbard - take the ball to the basket and shoot or pass it back out, Popp shoot threes until your arms hurt, Cotton and Montgomery - cut, slash and drive; Brown, get to the low block and look for the dump down, if you don't get it then go get a rebound, Earls run the court and go to the basket, if you want to go outside on occassion, ok, just don't make it a habit, we need you down low first. If anyone gets tired raise their hand and we'll bring in the next horse so you can catch your breath) I know they are 3-1, however, they are a couple baskets away from 1-3!!! That for a #2 ranked team in N. Ky is not what I would have expected. Can you please see what you can do? It's a shame to see this group of young men have to continue to play this deliberate style of offense. If you can't give me/this team this gift, I don't know who they play next, however, my prediction is: 49 - 47. Thanks,
  13. I agree with your statement above. I disagree with that strategy when you have the bench depth that Boone's has. Why keep teams around when you can run them off the floor. Just my opinion from coaching various teams. Seems you make things more difficult on your team to have them play a different style than what is their strengths (although, pressure defense is a nice strength that Boone has) it is the set offense that is a bit worrysome. The more possessions you have the more points you can score on the offensive end. What I would do is run on the offensive end and play pressure defense on the other end. From watching a bunch of these guys play AAU, they can and do wear down the other teams with their pressure defense and atheticism on offense. Again, just my opinion. I thought there was a senior coming back that was a catch a shoot player, perhaps I am wrong. :idunno: So, what I believe you are saying is that McQuery is their best option off the bench for 'offense' even though he is a Sophomore. Would he be listed as #2on the depth card behind Earls? I'm ok with the motion offense when you go up against teams that are as athletic or even more athletic than you (Holmes and perhaps a couple other), however, it just doesn't seem as though you are playing to your teams strength during the other games. Oh well, I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
  14. Ok, I'll give you the 3 players being out, however, does that mean their back-ups can't box out? 20 Offensive rebounds from Charlotte? Come on. I didn't see a great deal of effort being put forth by the Cards on the defensive end of the court.
  15. With Earls, I agree the Rebels by double digits. If Earls doesn't play, I still like the Rebels, just not as much. I would put Brown on the NCC Big Guy and take my chances. Is the Jr. class, outside of Brown and Montgomery not as strong as expected? What about Oppenheimer, any action to date? I thought all summer the talk was about all the juniors and seniors Boone had on the team. I'm surprised that the Sophomore is getting some extended minutes. I still say, with the motion offense that Boone runs and not letting the horses run, you allow teams to 'stick around' when you have more athletes and a deeper bench. I'm surprised they are not scoring in the 70's. Heck, they are barely hitting the 60's! Boone 59 NCC 47
  16. Sorry, I missed the game, however, I heard Montgomery did start last night? I also heard he had a nice dunk in the first half. How did Brown do?
  17. I'm not familiar with him. Did he play last year? What year is he in? The two I'm looking forward to seeing tonight for BCHS are the Jr.s - Brown and Montgomery.
  18. Speaking of starting the season with a District Game (Holmes v. Beechwood thread), I believe this district game will be a bit more competitive!!!! Boone - 55 Ryle - 48 I believe this game will be closer than some realize. Hopefully, Boone doesn't play their half court game (which I believe keeps other teams 'hanging around') and let's the team play to their strengths which I feel are: depth and athleticism. Thoughts?
  19. I'm with ColonelCrazy on this one, sorry M!! So, in your theory, 'Holmes' (or the best team around) losses/gets upset so they go to the '2' side of the region tourney. Your team, having a chance to win a district CHAMPIONSHIP and be a '1', decides to tank the Championship game in order to be '2' so you don't play 'Holmes' in the first round. Let's look at the percentages.... If 'Holmes' is a '2' and your team is a '1' you have a 33% chance of playing them in the first round. If you are also a '2' you have a 0% chance of playing them in the first round but have a 100% chance of playing a '1' in the first round (tougher matchup even if you consider yourself a '1' and threw the Championship game). So, to increase your odds by only 33% you are willing to live with not winning a Championship in High School? I must be as naive as CC!!! There is no way on God's green earth a coach is going to do this. Is there a chance? Sure, but their is also a chance your bus wrecks on the way to the arena because a driver of another car ran a red light and your team is injured and can't play the game anyway. However, if your team was a '1' instead of a '2' your game time would have been different and you wouldn't have put your team in the position to be going through that intersection at that time. CC this is an argument/discussion you are not going to be able to win so I would give it up. You can drum up all kinds of scenerios to make these different arguments/discussions. Just my 2 cents worth.
  20. I feel it is important only because UK has had the lead for so long until UNC passed them and then UK passed them back, that I don't want to hear the UNC fans say they got there first. It is bad enough when UNC did take the lead all the comments... I just don't want them to have anymore ammunition than they already have. UK will be fine. I checked UNC's schedule and I don't see them getting there until the first of the year. At least the UNC game is in Rupp! That place will be rocking!!!!!
  21. I believe it is important. I personally would like to see UK get there first. Wouldn't it have been cool is the UK/UNC game on 12/5 would have been for 2k? I'm thinking UK will get there against Long Beach State on 12/23 after looking at their schedule. If not then, it looks as though it will definitely occur at home. If I'm UK and they do get there first, I would make a BIG deal out of it that night with Banners, etc.!!!
  22. Just from my experience in playing locally in district championship games and then on to the region. It never crossed my mind to seek an easier first round game in the region depending on how the other district championship games ended. All I thought about, and I feel my teammates thought about was getting that trophy that said DISTRICT CHAMPIONS instead of RUNNER UP. Now, we did think about what side of the draw the other teams 'top teams' would wind on and hoped we didn't meet them until the finals. Now, 20+ years later, when I return to High School, I show my kids the trophies that our team earned that I was a part of. Just my thoughts on the whole thing.....
  23. Thanks for all the quick responses. With this being the case, then the argument of only taking the District Champ and not the runner up goes out the window (in my opinion, only). By taking both, it gives a team a 'second chance' to make it to Rupp. I'm all about second chances.... A team could have had an off night, injuries, foul trouble, etc.. I know the argument is still out there about one and done and all that. I'm just saying that in my opinion, since district runner ups have moved on to the region final and possibly to Rupp in the past then I think it is good to give the district runner up a get out of jail free card and advance to the regional tournament.
