  1. How is this terrible logic? Tiger stated Holmes was a 'much better' team than Boone. I disagree with that statement and my point is that they just played to an OT game. The last 3 times these two teams have played the games could have gone either way. I don't understand how the statement can be made that Holmes is a 'much better' team than Boone. How else would you compare the two teams? If you go head to head, it's a toss up, if you go common opponents it's a toss up. How else would you like to compare the two teams? I think it is goofy to say that Holmes is a much better team than Boone. I know it is only Tiger's opinion, however, there is no substance supporting it. I'm just looking for 'logic' to support that opinion. What other 'logic' would you like to use?
  2. Exactly!!!! Nothing like:deadhorse: My goodness, physical and intense game. It's not like it's the first time players have banged and jawed in a basketball game before!!!
  3. Boone did take the 'much better' team to OT, didn't they? 'more talented team'? They seem pretty comparible to me. I'll take my chances with Trevan and the Boone roster in the regionals. Wasn't it Boone that won the regular season game last season only to lose in the regional final? Seems to me that if they do match up in the regionals (assuming both make it to the region) it could be a toss up. :idunno: Perhaps I am missing something here....
  4. This is a classic post!!! This is the same post that I, among others (Wildcatfan in particular) have said THIS YEAR about the Boone County coach. The style of offense that they run alllows other teams, teams without the depth and athleticism to hang around, and it eventually will jump up and grab you at some point! It has in Boone's case a couple of times this year. I agree, if you have the horses, let them run!!! However, it's hard to argue this case when both coaches and teams have been pretty successful over the past few years.
  5. Boone County 68, Ryle 61 Ryle (11-11) - Pinkston 2 1 5, Stinson 0 1 1, McLeish 5 4 17, Perkins 2 0 4, Coleman 6 3 16, Stauffer 8 2 18, Totals 23 11 61 Boone County (15-6) - Popp 1 6 8, Gabbard 3 0 6, Schulze 2 0 5, Montgomery 4 2 11, Cotton 6 0 12, Earls 4 0 8, Lay 5 0 10, Brown 4 0 8, Totals 29 8 68 Ryle 10 15 16 20 61 Boone County 13 12 21 22 68 3-pointers: R (McLeish 3, Coleman); B (Schulze, Montgomery). What was the difference in the game? Can anyone provide details? Game tied at the half, then it looks like the second half had some flow and scoring - Boone 43, Ryle 36 I wasn't at the game but it seems in the second half Boone got up and down the court a little bit more according to the box score. 8 Boone players scoring between 5 and 12 points in the game? Being led by Cotton (12) and Montgomery (11). Wow, talk about balanced scoring....
  6. Great, thanks.:thumb: So, if that happened, Ryle and Conner would be on the other side of the bracket so one of them wouldn't make the 9th region tournament, correct?
  7. Can someone explain to me why tomorrow's game between Boone v. Conner is so important in the district tournament? I'm hearing some different stories about the game. If Boone wins they get the district #1 seed and would more than likely have to play (Heritage?) in the disctrict and that win would put them in the District final so they would automatically get at regional bid regardless if they win or lose the district championship game? Does this sound somewhat correct? I would like to see what the district tournament would look like if Boone wins tomorrow and what it looks like if Conner wins tomorrow. I know there is still some games to be played and it isn't written in stone. I'm just curious on how the 33rd district tournament matches up at this point in the season.
  8. Great Pics paNDA as always!!!! You do a great job of capturing the game!!!! I sounds to me that Boone (sickness/injuries) was finally at full strength Cov. Cath. (sickness/injuries) wasn't. I don't know if the results would have changed, however, I'm sure the game would have been much more competitive. Looks like Boone had a very balanced scoring attack (4 in double figures) in this one. Hopefully, this team is coming around and can finish the season strong. Looks like Gabbard got back on track in this one as well. Let's hope they get a chance to meet again, that would mean it would be in the Regional Tournament. The goal of both teams.
  9. If you want to increase listenership... I would go with 'Bad Moon Rising' :ylsuper: to kick off the broadcast and follow it up with a little 'Midnight Special' :ylsuper: at the half. I can see the Cov. Cath. fans now :dancingpa:dancingpa:dancingpa Hopefully, J-man will be back in action for tomorrow nights tilt. As far as myself doing the call, I'm to quiet and reserved to step out like that. To much out of my comfort zone!!! Good luck to the Colonels and Rebels tomorrow night. It should be a good game.
  10. CovCath Radio and TheOldGuy..... No opinions/predictions? Colonel got your tongue? CCR - Will the game be broadcast via the internet? I know a lot of the parents/grandparents/fans that can't get to the games love to listen on the internet. Being a Boone County fan, I wish they had someone that was as committed as you to broadcast the games via the internet. You do a great job!!! Don't be too rough on the Rebels tomorrow night if you do broadcast the game!!! LOL.
  11. If nothing else, Cov Cath will have a hard time trying to determine who will be the Rebel who looks to score in this game. Boone, it seems, designates one scorer for each game and the rest of the team takes the night off. I would like to see Popp and Gabbard get into the score book a little bit earlier and more often and Montgomery and Brown to both put in about 15 a piece. Perhaps this is the game it all comes together for the Rebels and they 'all' show up. Boone - 60 Cov. Cath. - 54
  12. I wasn't able to make it to the last couple of games for Boone, however, I'm struggling trying to understand why Gabbard isn't scoring much at all lately. I could be off with some of my numbers. However, I believe he had 3 pts against St. Henry, 0 against Cooper and 4 against Highlands. I believe he needs to look for his shot more. There doesn't seem to be much consistency with Boone's scoring this year.... Brown had a couple games were he was getting 16 - 20 points and he scores 2 against Highlands? It looks like it may be Montgomery's turn to score. I believe this is the second straight game with 20 points (Highlands and Cooper) and to throw in 10 rebounds as well is a nice two game stretch for him. And 0 points for Popp in this game? The up and down season continues for Boone and who is scoring for them!
  13. As a Rebel fan I agree with the above post. I sometimes think that he needs to be a bit more 'selfish' when he is on the court. I believe he does defer to the seniors on the team. That's a very good point. :ylsuper: I believe, along with the other 'athletes' on the Boone team that a more up tempo style would benefit Montgomery more. Is he getting any looks from any colleges? :idunno: I think he has DI talent that shows during the AAU leagues more so than the motion offense that Boone runs. I'd think he would fit in well with a MAC type school: Miami, Ohio, Ball State, etc.. Isn't your Junior year when most of the recruiting takes place?
  14. Wow, I was on the Boone side and didn't see any misbehaving parents. I heard a couple of loud comments directed to the referees but nothing that I would categorize as extremely disappointing. Did I miss something? :idunno: Anything you can share?
  15. Exactly what I was thinking as well. I would have said of the overachieving 7-7 Crusaders though.....
  16. I'll see you guys in the old guy section as well tonight then..... I see Geisler getting in foul trouble early and often tonight. Thelan wins the battle of the big men and then hang on at the end. Cov Cath - 65 New Cath - 60
  17. Point #1 above - Agree :thumb: Point #2 above - Agree :thumb::thumb: and Point #3 above - Agree :thumb::thumb::thumb:
  18. Top Two reasons for St. Henry victory over Boone... #1 - Free Throws - Free Throws, Free Throws, Free Throws. I would love to see what the stats were in the free throw category in the 4th quarter and in OT. St. Henry didn't miss any (seemed like) and Boone didn't make any. #2 - Coaching - Coach Faust. I agree with CCR in a post at the top of the thread. He gets more out of his players than any other coach in the 9th region. If he's not the best coach in N. Ky, he is in the top 2 or 3. And, well, the BCHS coach isn't Faust. How much input does Coach Downs have at Boone? I hear nothing but good things about him as a coach and in AAU, however, there doesn't seem to be a great deal of communication between the head coach and Coach Downs during games. I would like to see him a bit more involved in some of the decision making / substituions during games. How, when taking the ball out at the end of regulation with 1.8 seconds left and you have to go the length of the court do you NOT put someone on the baseline (under your offensive basket) to ensure that the inbounds pass doesn't go out of bounds without being touched which allowed St. Henry to then inbound the ball under their own basket. Again, hats off to Coach Faust on play they called to get a wide open look at the buzzer that could have avoided OT all togheter. Referring- Just to make a comment about the refs, some of the calls and non calls (BOTH WAYS) were just terrible. I especially liked the push of the St. Henry player at mid court by Boone that was called as over and back. I thought that was a classic. I don't understand why it is not mandated that high school games do not require 3 referees!! I believe it is up to the home team to determine whether or not a third referree is at the game? Does someone know the rule on that one? If that is the case, then, if I had a physical team and was playing at home, I would just seek to have just two refs call the game. Just my opinion, but I could see where this could be taken advantage of. I'm not saying that was the case in this game at all, just an observation in general. There were a ton of missed calls, a ton a questionable calls and a ton of bad calls. Not just my opinion, but the reaction from both sets of fans when calls were made would support that claim. I know they aren't perfect, but come on.... As for fixing the Rebels..... I don't know how much actually needs to be fixed, however, with the very limited action for Earls and Lay, once they get back on the court, they should be fine. I would like to see Gabbard get more shots (as noted in an earlier post) and be more assertive and can the Rebels please use their athletes and run up and down the court and allow them to make plays? They should be scoring in the 70's, not having to make a late run to get into the 50's. Just my thoughts....
  19. Any box scores or stats? I didn't see anything in the paper about the game. Thanks Einstein for the quarter updates on the previous thread. Looks like Newport exploded in the 2nd quarter. Boone stayed in a zone defense after Newport kept hitting 3's (9 or 10 of them)? That's a lot, how many did they shoot? Why didn't Boone play man defense? Was it because no Lay and no Earls?
  20. Any thoughts? #2 at #3 Boone seems to be getting up and down the court a bit more lately. Boone 67 Newport 61
  21. They posted it very early last year (around this time) as well. It must be one of the last things they do on their checklist for the current year. #121 - conduct draw for next years state tournament. #122 - turn out the lights.
  22. In talking to a Louisville parent at the state tournament, they said that Mercy built a new structure (gym or school, I don't recall) that would force them to align with the 7th region next year. I guess they built it (physically) within the 7th region????? At least that is what I took from the conversation. I had not heard anything about Dupont Manual moving to the 6th.
  23. So much for the 9th region catching a break with Mercy switching regions and joining Sacred Heart, Assumption in the 7th region in 2010.:irked: It looks like the 7th and 9th region will meet in the semi's assuming things play out like they have in the past.....
  24. :thumb::thumb: 100% agree!!!! U-da-man Mark!!! Thanks for everything you do for CCH and NDA internet broadcasts!!!
