HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – In what could arguably have been the best match so far in the 2009 Kentucky High School Athletic Association State Volleyball Tournament, the Notre Dame Academy Pandas outlasted the Paul Laurence Dunbar Lady Bulldogs 25-18, 25-18 Saturday morning.

Jaimie Wulfeck led the way for the Pandas with nine kills and three blocks. Wulfeck did not commit an error in 13 attack attempts as she hit an astounding .692 for the match,

NDA (32-8) hit.371 as a team as Shelby Reid and Liz Barton added seven kills apiece. Brooke Jones dished out 25 assists while Leslie Schellhaas and Lindsay Hartmann collected eight digs each.

Dunbar (35-10) played well against one of the best in the state, but could not manage to counter the long NDA runs with one of their own. The Lady Bulldogs’ longest scoring run of the day was three points on two occasions in the second stanza. NDA’s longest was seven in the second set.

The Lady Bulldogs were led in hitting by Lauren Travis and Brianna Hill with five kills each. Travis attacked at a .417 clip while Hill hit .222. As a team, Dunbar hit just .147 in 68 attempts.

NDA advances to play Mercy Academy in the first semifinal at 2 p.m. The match will be broadcast on a tape delay basis in Northern Kentucky and the Louisville area courtesy. Fans can also catch the delayed broadcast nline through the KHSAA Web site.
