NDA's Leslie Schellhaas has been named POY in the 9th region by the KY VB Coaches Association.

 

With very few exceptions I cannot think of a NDA student-athlete who has done a better job representing NDA and what NDA stands for over the last many years. It simply could not go to a better young lady.

A well deserved award for Leslie. She has worked very hard for all of her accomplishments.

Agree with the selection of her, Kaiser as coach, Penrod as player in 10th, but what did the coach at Highlands do to deserve the honor? Seems it should have gone to Campbell Co. coach, or for that matter what about the coach from Silver Grove. According to the KHSAA website they won 14 matches this year, which has to be a school record.

I think its to soon to pick a COY. Why not wait to see how things shake out in the regional tournaments first. You also should consider the strength of schedule or if they had a complete turnaround from the previous year. In my opinion,(a biased one at that) Coach Vicki Fleissner of Newport Central Catholic, did a fantastic job in her first year with a very young and inexperienced team. They currently are 17-12 and are one of the favorites to win the 10th(along with Campbell Co.). Leah Ballinger of Campbell Co., would be a good choice too.

I picked this one from the beginning of the season. Leslie is not only a great player, but, a great kid as well. It is great to see a player that is playing a not so glamorous position win POY!:dancingpa

Congratulations to Leslie on player of the year. She is certainly very deserving of this honor. I also agree with Kaiser as COY but am not so sure about the 10th region selections. I would have gone with Ballinger as COY and NCC's Snyder as POY.

I don't know who the runner up was in the 9th region or if they do co-POY's, however, Jamie Wulfeck had to be right there with Leslie. Both had incredible years and careers at NDA!!!

 

I also agree with Bredwinner that the coach of the year should take place after regionals...

 

Not to be a total NDA homer :isurrender:, however, what about some love for Andrea Lanham for Coach of the Year? I know she had a lot of talent coming back but I thought she managed it well and I don't think her team lost to a Northern Kentucky school. If you check out NDA's losses this year they are all from nationally ranked teams. Plus, she did coach NDA to wins over Sacred Heart and Mercy. Anyway, hats off to her as well!!!

I know she had a lot of talent coming back but I thought she managed it well and I don't think her team lost to a Northern Kentucky school. If you check out NDA's losses this year they are all from nationally ranked teams. Plus, she did coach NDA to wins over Sacred Heart and Mercy. Anyway, hats off to her as well!!!

 

 

Coach of the Year, in my opinion, would be someone that really meets and exceeds expectations with his/her team. Maureen Kaiser definitely deserves this award. I think many in Northern KY thought St. H would fall slightly off radar after losing her so many talented kids last year. She really did great things with her team this year. The other Region 9 coach that would come immediately to mind is Beechwood's coach. She made dramatic, positive changes which resulted in a fantastic year for Beechwood after a rough season last year.

I have to agree with that. Jessi brought the life and fight back into Beechwood's program. I would definately put Jessi and Maureen up for COY, but that is another thread.

Not in agreement at all on the Andrea Lanham comment???????? There are others that deserve being mentioned as COY before her. Jessi Campbell at Beechwood or Andrea Sullivan at Scott
