  1. This game could clear up the 9th region picture some if one team or the other wins impressively ( like 10+), but probably it will be a close game in which case nothing will really be different. I'm not sure what "controlling " Allen means, but if it means holding her to single digits I don't think that will happen. They probably will offset each other if Sandfoss doesn't get in foul trouble. She has a tendicity to commit dumb fouls when she gets frustrated and NCC can't afford for that to happen. Towles may have as much trouble staying out of foul trouble as Tabor. Should be an interesting game if the weather doesn't interfere.
  2. As always, "it was the officials". We played a perfect game and they were terrible. After a while this gets old.
  3. From watching the box scores it appears Moss has really picked it up since early in the season.
  4. In the second situation the ref should just blow the whistle immediately and get the ball back to the shooter.
  5. Botton line is if a player has ANY sense he/she will do whatever they can to please a ref. Just like in football when a player scores a TD he can always makes points with the official by handing the ball to the official, not dropping it on the ground. How hard is it for a 17 year old to pick up the ball for goodness sake.
  6. Is NCC losing players from St. Joe to Brossart they used to get. If I'm not mistaken some of their best players in the past came from St. Joe's. Ifso, how come?
  7. Don't ever expect to see any game story or box score in the paper if Highlands loses on the road to an out of region opponent. They seem to forget to call the loses in.
  8. Well maybe the players could learn how to play without fouling or the refs could take a vote of the fans on which fouls to call. We could also go with instant replay on every call a coach or fan objects to. Everyone would be given a red towel when they enter the gym. On other quotes people say if the refs are consistent that's all that counts. You said they were, so what's the problem. Is there ever a game when people don't think the refs weren't "horrible, terrible, etc."
  9. Talked to someone who attended the game and their description was almost exactly like yours. It appears NCC is going to have to find someone besides Sandfoss to consistently score in double digits. I would think Tabor will, but wonder where the other points are coming from against better teams. These two teams, along with Highlands, appear to be the class right now. I still believe Ryle could be a sleeper.
  10. Keep things in perspective. I told you how I would call one play in ONE situation. I NEVER stated I just call games the way I want. All coaches would agree with the way I would call this play, if it ever happened, which I don't know ever has. As far as public perception: I don't officiate for the pulic, most have no clue about rules, and as I said I couldn't care less about public perception. End of story.
  11. Since you made the call I beckon you over and let you explain how the opposing team just got 4 points on one possession because the scorer failed to recognize the bonus situation. In the postgame discussion I suggest we bring the play up at the next official's meeting and see how many have EVER called it that way. The answer will be NONE.
  12. You are actually telling me a good official should call the technical right away and take away the attempt at the lay-up? If you believe you know nothing about running a game. By the way, in my extensive officiating cateer I have been as respected as any official in the game. You are just trying to be a purist looking for obscure rule to discuss. As I said previously, the next time your original play is called YOUR BOOK way will be the first. Also, I couldn't care less about the PUBLIC"S PERCEPTION aboit how I officiate a game. It's the coachs' opinion I am concerned about, and I have no problem there.
  13. I have never said the rule doesn't read that way. I also wasn't saying it would vary depending on which coach would be upset. I am saying the next time an official administers it that way you let me know. There are many situations that require an official to use common sense. i.e. team A steals the ball and is going in for an uncontested lay-up when the coach of team B stands up and yells an obsenity at the official. By rule the official should call a technical foul immediately which deprives team A of their attempt at the lay-up. Is that the way all of you would call it? Just an example of a play that has actually happened in a game I officiated. I waited until the lay-up was made and then called the technical. You actually believe that was wrong? With 30+ years officiating I could give you many examples such as this. I stand by my statement that the next time an official would give a team the basket and free throws in you original situation would be the first time it has happened.
  14. Believe you will NEVER see this situation administered by giving team A BOTH the basket and the free throws. The intent of the rules are to correct a situation in a manner that does not give a team an unfair advantage because an official scorer has made an error. If you don't believe me ask ANY official you respect and ask them if they would give team both the basket AND the free throws. As was mentioned earlier, there is no way you could explain why team A got both the basket and the free throws to the opposing coach, especially if he were the visiting coach, BECAUSE it is an unfair administration of the rules.
  15. Trust me, NO GOOD official is going to give team A the basket AND the free throws, regardless of how the rule reads. The horn does not stop the game, only a whistle. So in this situation I would say the official will say the ball was dead upon entering the basket and became alive again before the official's whistle. Thus, the basket counts and the error is NOT correctable because the ball has become alive again after being dead.
  16. Is there any chance this game would be on a website? If not that can someone give updates on here. Thanks for any help.
  17. Why do they play basketball in the fall? When do they play v'ball?
  18. I am not talking about club ball at all. I'm saying parochial grade schools start girls in the 3rd grade playing volleyball. You can't wait until middle school and try to make up 3-4 years of lost time. These teams are coached and supported by parents and booster clubs. Until public schools do this they will never catch up with the parocial schools. This has NOTHING to do with club ball, districting, or building elite teams. It has EVERYTHING to do with parents willing to devote time to start their girls at an earlier age.
  19. I agree, but I think most public school parents still have that "entitlement" mentality in that they feel someone fromthe elementary school should organize, coach, and otherwise do it for them. They do it in some sports in some school districts. Some public schools have geat youth football programs, run by volunteers, but I doubt the same thing applies to other sports. It comes down to parents willing to volunteer their time to provide the opportunities. In parochial schools it has been going on for years. The public schools need to step up if they want to compete in these sports.
  20. Does Snyder remind you of anyone? Sure looks a lot like her cousin, Kaela Freppon, that had been setting for NCC the last 4 years.
  21. Thanks for the info. Based on that I would think they should be as much a favorite as Boone, who lost Bradley, and certainly rated higher than Highlands.
  22. Can't dispute your comments as I'm not that familiar with the subs from last year. I do know in the games I saw involving NCC last year the starters played almost all the minutes with very few bench players rotating in. I guess my question then is who are the strong bench players you refer to. Please understand not questing your statement just unfamiliar with who they might be.
  23. Agree with the selection of her, Kaiser as coach, Penrod as player in 10th, but what did the coach at Highlands do to deserve the honor? Seems it should have gone to Campbell Co. coach, or for that matter what about the coach from Silver Grove. According to the KHSAA website they won 14 matches this year, which has to be a school record.
