9th Region Cats Pause Preview?
110764 replied to Bpiccolo's topic in KY Girls Basketball (High School)
Agree with your assessment. NCC duo of Sandfoss and Tabor could be as good, but they seem to be to inconsistent, especially Tabor. Will be interesting to see how NCC will fare after losing several key players from last year. It didn't seem they had much coming off the bench to replace them unless there are some sophomores that might help. Boone is still the team to beat. -

As a neutral observer I think maybe HC didn't do any of the things mentioned because frankly the game was over, and this wasn't the game that really counts. The next one, if there is one, will be in the playoffs and that is the important one. I think HC didn't want to show anything after the game was decided. You noticed NCC did nothing different after they got the lead either. I would guarantee they will have some new twists when, and if, they meet again. JMO. -
Newport Central Catholic vs Beechwood Volleyball
110764 replied to Dlbdonn's topic in KY Volleyball (High School)
Been around v'ball and b'ball for years and it was the worst display I have ever seen, especially given the fact no school administrator intervened. Black mark on Beechwood. -
You might keep in mind that for about 10 years NewCath was playing in the Greater Cincinnati League ( Elder, Moeller, St. Xavier, etc.), you know all those teams that kick the Ky. schools butt EVERY TIME they play them. This could have something to do with their record back in the 60's & 70's.

You must REALLY have an ax to grind. By the way, don't bet on the days of NCC football being over. -
A HUGH amen to that statement!!!!!!!

At parochial schools try $3k to $4k. That would be my guess. That is part of the reason a coach at a public school is hesitant to move unless money is no object. Your original estimate is probably not that far off for public schools. When is the last time a coach at a public school left for a private school? I'm syre it has happened sometime, but it doesn't happen often.

If they only lost two starters from a very good team last year, I would think they shouldn't be 0-4 this year. No discredit to Lloyd intended at all, but why was the coaching change made in the first place. According to the KHSAA web site Highlands gave NCC all they wanted last year in the districts.

I don't think there is a chance this will happen. No reason, just don't think it is in the cards.

Newport Central Catholic 2009/2010
110764 replied to threetimelover's topic in KY Girls Basketball (High School)
This will be a challange, more so than some people think. They will miss them not only on defense, but more so on the boards. Those two accounted for a good number of rebounds and loose balls. I really don't know who will take up that slack, because I think their bench will be very thin. -
Thanks so mush for listing these, as they aren't always in the newspaper. By the way, does anyone know why the KHSAA scoreboard is not updated for this year?

Why wouldn't Sandfoss be healthy? Is there a problem? -
Wonder if Highlands is re-thinking their coaching change?

Is NKY basketball overrated?
110764 replied to ladiesbballcoach's topic in KY Girls Basketball (High School)
Some teams do play a game or two, but Ohio teams can only play 20 games a season, 4 less than Ky, so they have fewer openings after their league schedule is completed. There also is no publicity to be gained by playing a Cincy versus a Lex/Lou school in the state. A number of teams do have pre-season scrimmages againest Oh. teams. -
EXACTLY. Of course NCC fans have long been "experts" on coaching. If they had had their way Coach Schneider would have been "run off" years ago. Luckily for the football program a different administration wasn't strong-armed by parents who though they had All-State kids, when they didn't.

You are wrong. She was NOT asked to resign. She did so voluntary because of parental interference, and has passed on several inquiries to assume other head coaching jobs. She would probably not be interested in the NDA job, but maybe her record of 2 regional titles and 2 regional runner-up finishes in her last 8 years from a school with less than half the female students as NDA looks pretty good.

Is NKY basketball overrated?
110764 replied to ladiesbballcoach's topic in KY Girls Basketball (High School)
I think it is more than two schools. How good would NCC have been last year if their 3 stud volleyball players had played basketball their entire careers. Campbell Co. usually has several v'ballers that play club ball. Boone would have had a 6'2" center last year if she hadn't played v'ball. I really think this is a big factor in NKY. Other than Louisville no other part of the state has NEAR as many good athletes that forgo b'ball for club v'ball. Look at LexCath, they have great b'ball year in and year out, but their v'ball is very ordinary. That's because the thing to do at that school is plat b'ball and not club v'ball. Other than the hugh academy schools in L'ville, where they have so many good athletes to chose from, no school is a powerhouse statewide in BOTH sports. Very few schools throughout the state loose b'ball players to club volleyball compared to NKY. -
I'm just curious. You have made some very bold statements in your post. Why do you believe Petroze is that much better than any high school coach in the area.
-
All parocial schools in NKY, and Loiusville I'm sure, start the girls at a very young age, and that is part of the reason the schools that don't can't catch up. There is no reason all schools couldn't do this, but you must get a real committment from parents to volunteer to run the program and coach the teams. This is a hugh amount of time committment, but obviously it pays off.

I know there were politics involved at Silver Grove, and I also know who you are referring to, so you are right on that count. I also know it was a very different situation at Brossart, however. I do agree with you on the former NCC coach. She would be an excellent choice as she won 2 regional titles at NCC and lost in the finals twice also. I think you are correct in suspecting she would not be ready to step away from watching and being involved in coaching her children at this point, however.

He was let go at Brossart and Silver Grove. He isn't going to be hired at Notre Dame. Obviously winning isn't the only qualification schools are looking for. I have no idea what the circumstances were at these schools, but there has to be a reason for his dismissals.
