  1. Their track teams seem to do very well year in and year out, so it I don't know that it is the school itself.
  2. I really think they need to learn how to win when it counts. I know that sounds simplistic, but the bottom line is the original group of stars are going to be seniors. Three years ago this group was touted as a possible three time winner of the region, and the bottom line is they haven't even reached the region finals. They play very well during the season, but when tourney time comes they seem to tighten up. Don't know the solution, but they could wind up like the Holy Cross group of a few years ago of Bass, Lantry, Noll, etc. who won a ton of games but never a region title.
  3. That's hard to imagine, but anything can happen in the summer.
  4. I agree with you. I see about 10-15 meets a year and enjoy every minute of it. Something is always going on, with very little down time compared to almost all other sports.
  5. You DON'T have to go if you feel you have no chance, but that sure is selling the kids short. Participating in the state meet is an honor. The meets actually took about 4 1/2 hours, not all day, and you can leave after your child participates if you want. Don't think it is too much to ask of a parent to watch your child participate in a state meet if they qualify, even if they do finish 12th.
  6. If you truely want the best of the best in the meet you have to take more than just the top 2 qualifers from the 7 regions. Some regions are so much better than others that the 4th or 5th best in one region is better than the top qualifer in another. Whether it should the next 10 best is debatable, but at least the next 5 or 6 have to go.
  7. NewCath girls had a great day. Based on the seedings from the regionals they should have lost to St. Henry by about 20 points, instead they win 5 events and win the meet by 20 points. Outstanding job. Several other notable performances by locals Nieser from Brossart and Stoll from Villa in the boys meet.
  8. I couldn't care less about this situation, but I don't think a parent should have to go to the expense and trouble of finding an AAU team for his 6th grade son. This should be provided by the school system.
  9. NewCath has gotten the best players from the "swing" parish for the last decade. This isn't something that has just happened. They will continue to get them as long as they continue to win.
  10. Whenever any administration lets the parents get involved you are going to have problems. It happens quite frequently a a number of schools. When is a school going to step up and say the coach runs the program so I don't want to hear about it. Parents will NEVER be satisfied, so changing coaches isn't the answer, anywhere.
  11. Then why did Holmes have to go 2OTs to beat Central?
  12. I don't even know who Sanford plays for, but I was sure it had to be the officials' fault somehow.
  13. I don't know that this will happen, but I'm sure the current 9th region teams wouldn't mind getting rid of Holmes, Boone Co., and CovCath. I know they pick up Mason Co. but I'm sure they will take the trade.
  14. Holmes doesn't run with anyone. They play a very deliberate style by spreading the floor and using their athleticism. They actually didn't handle the ball that well in the regional when they did try to run.
  15. If it is a legal shot the game doesn't end until the shot ends, so it would be a foul.
  16. Coaches and administrators decide whether they want to switch officials with another region.
  17. I saw her the other night in a 9th region game and knew she did college ball by the way she gave the number on a foul call. College officials do it with 2 hands while most high school officials use only one, giving the first number then the second.i.e. foul on 21 would be given with a 2 and then a 1 using the same hand. She did it by holding up 2 fingers on her right hand and 1 finger on her left simaltaneously.
  18. If they are officials how come they aren't working regional games themselves. If they truly are better they would have been voted in, BY THE 16TH REGION COACHES, to do the games. Apparently the people that count don't think they are better.
  19. I get the feeling the fans in the 16th wouldn't be satisfied with NCAA or NBA officials. Quit crying about officials.
  20. This sounds simplistic, but if Boone shoots the 3 well they win, if they don't they loose. Everything else pretty much balances out.
  21. And I was blasted 2 weeks ago in giving my summary of each contender for saying Highlands doesn't play well at tournament time. Another year goes by with all that talent not even getting to a regional final, much less winning one.
  22. For you "old-timers" the last name should sound familiar. He is the grandson of legendary NewCath coach Jim Connor.
