  1. Quickslick, I don't consider this a pity party, more a respect people party. If there are PLENTY of people who whould like to make "that kind of money" why is it that associations are always looking for officials? Also, where did you find that it is part of an official's job to be PERFECT. Be realistic, an official couldn't be perfect because there are always 2 teams involved and they would never both agree with every call. You state players and coaches TRY to be perfect: what makes you think officials don't try to be perfect. You think they make bad calls on purpose? No more than players try to miss free throws. We live in an imperfect world, so why should sports be any different. By the way, they ARE held accountable. You probably haven't noticed but there are evaluators at games throughout the season, and you as a coach are an evaluator by giving feedback through the 5 scratches you are entitled to and your annual ranking of officials you submit. That is what determines which officials you get. If officials work a lot of games it is because coaches are rating them high and not scratching them. Most officials don't have a complaint with coaches, it is the "know nothing" goofballs in the stands who don't even know the rules who are usually the loudest and most abusive. All officials are asking for is respect and decency from poeple. No more than you expect from your players and parents.
  2. I stand by my comment that in the vast majority of cases the officials do a better job of officiating than the players do of playing the game, at ANY level. I said nothing about how hard grade school kids play. In some cases they actually play harded than some higher level players. However, working harder doesn't always result in better results. As has been stated in many comments, if you aren't satisfied with what you see do something about it, like becoming an official yourself. No one is above criticism, be it official, coach, or player, but ALL are entitled to be treated in a humane way. Some things that are said during games are blantantly wrong, and would never be said to someone's face if it were outside the gym. A $5 ticket doesn't entitle ANYONE to be abusive to a player, coach, or official.
  3. In my opinion almost always the officiating is better than the quality of play, whether it be grade school through the pros. People just remember their calls more than the missed layups, free throws, etc.
  4. quickslick, no one is implying there was anything ILLIGAL about the move. Just that sometimes players/parents overestimate the ability of their son/daughter and move ito a district where, in this case it appears, the girl isn't good enough to play at the varsity level by her junior year. I have no idea what happened last year, and don't care, but can't believe a coach of Fookes' ability wouldn't play her best players. My poin is some players miss out on the opportunity of playing an entire career at the varsity level by shooting to high. I think the same thing happened to te Jordan girl at ND. She left Brossart where she played a lot as a freshman and now as a senior at ND isn't playing at all. Sometimes the just PLAYING is more important than WHERE you play. that seems to b the case here. No implication of any impropriety was intended, maybe just poor judgement.
  5. Just curious, but 3ptshooter seems to be implying something happened last year that Bowling is paying for now. Would Fookes really not play the better player to spite someone? Isn't Bowling a junior now? If so, it seems her career has been sidetracted by changing schools, or whatever happened. Maybe she would have been better off staying at one school and playing varsity all through her high school career. IMO that's what happens when kids(or parents) move too often to seek out the "best" place to play and wind up not playing much at all.
  6. Agree with all the comments, but doesn't NewCath get any credit? Their center, Cundiff, played 3 minutes of the first becuse of foul trouble, but came back with a big 2nd half. They worked just as hard, probably harder, and earned the win.
  7. Heard he was going to Roger Bacon a couple of weeks ago to get back to get back to his native Ohio and to get in the GCL. source seemed reliable, but who knows.
  8. Nice to see the comments about NCC being a class act from Raceland fans last week and Somerset fans this week. Winning is important but playing with class is even more important. Both Raceland and Somerset proved to be worthy opponents for NCC.
  9. Is there any chance the game will be on the internet like the Raceland/NCC game was last week. It was a pleasure listening to game for people who couldn't get to there. Congrats to the announcers of last week's game also. It was nice just listening to the play by play without criticism of the officials calls. Don't recall one time it was mentioned, and the announcers were obviously pulling for Raceland, as they should have been. Good job, guys.
  10. From the "rookie". Thanks to Futurecoach and jdg937 for backing my statements. Looks like we did strike a nerve, and Quickslick sure verified it by his comments to you. How inane some of them were tells you where he is coming from. Note he finally admitted he didn't care what happened to the winning team after all his "good luck" but comments earlier in the thread. As you put it so well, get over it.
  11. 3ptshooter Class is just wishing the other team the best without REPEATEDLY pointing how many different times the refs cost you. I did read all your posts and most of them complain about refs calls, and then say essentially "Good luck to the other team even though the refs killed us". Also, it's a lot easier to make calls after watching tape. Again, I didn't care who won, but you complain more than everyone else combined.
  12. 3ptshooter, you keep makng a big deal about the refs, but you still had 4 shots from the 10 yd line if I read the info correctly. So how did the refs hurt you? Most of your fans seem to show much more class by wishing Ncc good luck. I really had no rooting interest in game, but can tell from the comments it is a shame to cast doubt on what must have been a great game by blaming refs.
  13. Think NewCath has played a better schedule and this will make a difference in the end. NCC 24 Raceland 7.
