I respectfully disagree. Not at all concerned with Lit/Cantrell rankings since they are totally based on point spreads, so they aren't affected by teams playing downstate teams at all. Individual players better play downstate and be seen LIVE if they want recognition, because you can't base anything on "computer" info. People want to see players personally if they are going to recognize players or teams.

And just who would these guys be? If you are so sure of yourself, name names. The guys "running this thing" LOVE it and are very proud of what they have accomplished. A number are retired and still continue to donate their time. Your posts are the real waste of time!!!!

Where in the world did you come from? If you really think it's about money, take a tip to Richmond once and count the HUNDREDS of volunteers working at this affair. The whole thing was started by coaches from NKY who put in thousands of hours (gratis) geting this started 17 years ago. This may be the worst post I have ever seen. Shame on you for dissing the small school's showcase.

This bringsup a point that has bothered me for several years since the restructuring. When all-star teams are picked at the end of the year, players from non-ninth region teams are routinely selected. Yet I see these same players on all 8th & 10th region teams also. I realize the newspapers cover "the area" noy just "the region", but somehow it doesn't seem fair that 9th region girls(boys) get by passed for players from another region. This is in no way implying that the players from non ninth region teams aren't deserving, but somehowI can't justify being eligible for selection on teams from 2 different regions. Any thoughts?

I think if you want statewide reginition you must play the Louisville/Lexington area schools. The downstate people couldn't care less if you play the very best Cincinnati schools because don't know anything about them. Playing one is fine, but more than that just hurts your ststewide recognition if you are from NKY.

If nothing else the Hart Co. coach could have told her girls NOT to score the last basket regardlless of who was playing. Lapping a team is about as bush as it gets.

I couldn't agree with you more about no grade school kids playing high school ball. It's the same old saw though, if one does it then everyone thinks they they have follow suit, and they are probably right. There is a whole lot wrong with youth sports now, one being it is too organized at all levels and kids are almost required to play year round if they really want to compete at the highest level. This particularly hurts small schools where really good athletes wind up playing just one sport when they could probably excel in 2 or 3 sports. The only way itwill end is if the KHSAA prohibits non highschoolers from playing, like it is in Ohio. Fat chance of that ever happening.

No one was "cut" from any teams at Ncc from what I have been told, so she did NOT take anyone's roster spot. If you want private schools to compete with publics who can play anyone in their system "up" you have to allow the same thing at private schools. Otherwise we would have an "uneven" playing field, and Lord knows we don't want that. Since NO tuition money whatever is used to support sports, that has nothing to do with it.

This is a little off this subject, but since it was a Boone Co. post I thought someone could fill me in. Last year it seemed to me the Brassaux and findlet girls played more than they are this year, and scored more. I think one or the other started on a regular basis. Did Beherns take their minutes, or what happened?

Know nothing about this team, but if they did loose all 5 starters from last year, that is a great win. Sounds like Brossart may have been looking ahead a little. Really shouldn't be looking at March when it is still January.

Agree with this statement. Have no personal interest in any of these teams but have been reading for a year now about all the talented young players at Highlands. So far they are still potentially good players. The real question is will they develop into very good players. As mentioned only 5 can play at a time, and if there is really as much talent as this site seems to imply some people aren't going to be happy with playing time down the road.

If you really think you could influence officials to "slant" a game against an out of region team you think WAY too much of your influence. In fact, you are a DREAMER.

Don't count on getting homered in the 9th region next year. I seriously doubt 3point shooter exerts any influence over the officials Northern Kentucky. Seldom do teams in the rest of the state complain about the officiating they get when they head north. Quite the opposite.

Agree completely. If a player is good enough to start varsity, why in the world would a coach risk them getting injured in a lower level game. Winning can't and shouldn't be that important at the lowr levels to do this.

Can't speek to your specific question, but I did see her play in LexCath tourney and she was a real pleasure to watch. Very smooth and can do it all. I would hope to get another chance to see her play. Maybe in the All "A".

Quickslick, I don't consider this a pity party, more a respect people party. If there are PLENTY of people who whould like to make "that kind of money" why is it that associations are always looking for officials? Also, where did you find that it is part of an official's job to be PERFECT. Be realistic, an official couldn't be perfect because there are always 2 teams involved and they would never both agree with every call. You state players and coaches TRY to be perfect: what makes you think officials don't try to be perfect. You think they make bad calls on purpose? No more than players try to miss free throws. We live in an imperfect world, so why should sports be any different. By the way, they ARE held accountable. You probably haven't noticed but there are evaluators at games throughout the season, and you as a coach are an evaluator by giving feedback through the 5 scratches you are entitled to and your annual ranking of officials you submit. That is what determines which officials you get. If officials work a lot of games it is because coaches are rating them high and not scratching them. Most officials don't have a complaint with coaches, it is the "know nothing" goofballs in the stands who don't even know the rules who are usually the loudest and most abusive. All officials are asking for is respect and decency from poeple. No more than you expect from your players and parents.

I stand by my comment that in the vast majority of cases the officials do a better job of officiating than the players do of playing the game, at ANY level. I said nothing about how hard grade school kids play. In some cases they actually play harded than some higher level players. However, working harder doesn't always result in better results. As has been stated in many comments, if you aren't satisfied with what you see do something about it, like becoming an official yourself. No one is above criticism, be it official, coach, or player, but ALL are entitled to be treated in a humane way. Some things that are said during games are blantantly wrong, and would never be said to someone's face if it were outside the gym. A $5 ticket doesn't entitle ANYONE to be abusive to a player, coach, or official.

In my opinion almost always the officiating is better than the quality of play, whether it be grade school through the pros. People just remember their calls more than the missed layups, free throws, etc.
