As the old saying goes, "offense brings the crowd and defense wins you championships" ... Paris advances because of defense. The Ladyhounds were 7-of-24 from the free throw line but they did hit some big ones down the stretch. In this type of an event, you'll take an ugly win rather than a pretty loss!

Somerset led 9-6 at the end of the first quarter and the score was tied at 13-13 at the break. Somerset went up 16-15 after three quarters and eventually extended that margin to 21-15 with less than five minutes remaining in the contest. From there, Paris went on a 12-1 run to close out the game.

 

 

Nakita Jones led Paris with 11 points and 9 rebounds.

 

 

Caiti Cowen of Somerset had 14 points and 7 rebounds. I LOVE HER GAME!!!

Chelsea Felts had 6 points and 13 rebounds.

 

 

Somerset out rebounded Paris 39-37. Both teams had 16 turnovers but Paris had 14 steals. The Briar Jumpers hit just 1 -of-14 three point attempts, while Paris was 2-of-8.

Did i miss somethiing? Was something said negative or do you dislike the tournament in general?

Watch out for the Lady Hounds when they get back to 10th Region play. They're obviously having success right now with defense; it will be REAL interesting to see how they play in the district/regional tournament vs. the Masons and Montgomerys who like to run and gun. Will they be able to set tempo?

 

BTW, the scoreboard has the score the other way around.

While I can't disagree in the quality of some of the games, I believe the Touchstone All "A" Classic is a great tournament and it serves it's purpose very well. Not all games even in the KHSAA Sweet Sixteen either Boy's or Girls, are classic, but..........the fans of the schools and the area they are from look forward to them just the same.

The All "A" Classic is great for small schools most of which don't even have a chance to make it to the Sweet 16 much less win it. I will say that it seems many of these teams put too much of an emphasis on the tournament and end up fading away as the season goes on but this tournament is still a good thing for these kids. It also helps to get a bunch of kids in the spot light that normally wouldn't be because of the size of their school.

If that is the case, let's cancel every shootout, expo, panorama, Christmas tournament, and invitational tournament that doesn't feature the top teams or has lopsided games. For that matter we probably need to cancel some district tournaments, first round regional games, or even some first round state tournament games. Have we forgotten that everything should be about the kids and their getting every opportunity to showcase themselves? This should be true regardless of the size of the school or quality of the team.

Good game for the Lady Jumpers shouldn't be disappointed i dont believe anyone had you picked to even make it to Richmond. Chelsea Felts played really good defense. Cowan brought her game once again. She is a really good player that does really good things for this team. i do believe that this team is setting up to be a team that lives and dies by the 3 not good. However i think the Jumpers are on the rise and could be scary in the region this year.
