MountainThunder Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 Which schools in your area have middle school volleyball programs? It seems like a must to develop a solid program, and in the area where I live, there don't seem to be many middle schools that offer it.
Dlbdonn Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 (edited) Our Catholic Grade School , St Therese in Southgate ( K-8 ) starts volleyball in the 3rd grade ( instructional only ) the same as Basketball . There is are organized Diocesan leagues in NKY also for various grade school teams through the 8th grade . Edited August 7, 2009 by KyTmcNcc
Lunatic1 Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 Carroll County has a Middle School program, they started one the year they began HS.
carguy Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 The middle school program is key, however, to really develop a program in your area you need to have a club presence in the off season. That is where the girls really develop. For the most part, the coaching at the MS level is not as good as club. Probably, has a lot to due with the amount of time they get plus the pay is nothing to write home about. A Club can be started by a dedicated few and you can grow it from there. Look at Lville, Lex, BwlgGrn, NKY and Owensboro. They all have a strong club presence and you see it show in the high school game.

Lunatic1 Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 In small towns your girls that play v-ball are usually your basketball players also, so that takes them out of the club ball.

Theoldguy Posted August 8, 2009 Posted August 8, 2009 Gee in NKy is there a Catholic Grade/Middle school who doesn't have a VB team? Most have one sometimes two per grade.
110764 Posted August 8, 2009 Posted August 8, 2009 Then they have to make a choice which sport to concentrate on . Don't they . In grade school you can play both without too much conflict. When you get in high school you have to make a choice if you want to play club ball.

WildPack4 Posted August 8, 2009 Posted August 8, 2009 Is there somewhere where you can find a list of off season tourneys for club or travel teams? Club Tournaments for 2010 season will be listed on the regions websites usually by early November or so. (KY Tournaments) Pioneer Region http://www.pioneervb.com (Ohio Tournaments) Ohio Valley Region http://www.ovr.org
Beechwoodfan Posted August 8, 2009 Posted August 8, 2009 Beechwood started one last year and turnout has been great.
Theoldguy Posted August 8, 2009 Posted August 8, 2009 You also would be surprised to find out that up in NKy, it's not only the young ladies that play. I failed to mention some Catholic Grade/Middle Schools offer Volleyball to the boys.
Beechwoodfan Posted August 8, 2009 Posted August 8, 2009 Beechwood started one last year and turnout has been great. OOPS! Correction. Beechwood has had one for years. We started and elementary program last year.:ohbrother:
gchs_uk9 Posted August 8, 2009 Posted August 8, 2009 Garrard County doesn't have a middle school team, but rather they field a freshman team, junior varsity and varsity. The freshman team is made up almost entirely of middle schoolers. I think there are many schools in this part of the state that do it the same way.
