The Fort Campbell Falcons (one of the 2A teams playing in the 2A finals) beat Paducah Tilghman (one of the 2A teams playing in the 3A finals) by a score of 53-7.

 

Just wondering if it's ever happened before, that one team in a lower class has beaten a competitor in a higher class that happens to be a state finalist.

Quick one off the top of my head. HHS beat 4A Christian Cty. in 1982 in the Recreation Bowl that went on to win the 4A title that year. HHS also went on to win the 3A title that year. Thus becoming overall State Champion for 1982.

In '97, Beechwood, the 1A champ, beat CovCath the 3A champ. I believe that they did it earlier in the decade as well. That Beechwood team, could also have made the claim as best team in the state. They were unbelievable.

I know that Danville in '93 defeated the 4A runner-up, Shelby County, by 14 in the regular season. But that undefeated Ads team had their win streak stopped by Prestonsburg in the semi-finals by one point. (If not for that game the Ads may have won 58 straight rather than 42.)

 

Boyle beat Danville 47-0 in 2000 when the Rebels won AA and went 15-0 and the Admirals won A and went 14-1. (of course that was a different scenario than what you described as the Rebs were one class higher than the Ads)

I would think its maybe happened with Mayfield and Tilghman or Mayfield and Hoptown, just a good possibility, I have no data to back this up :lol:

Mayfield, 2A at the time, beat 4A champ Christian County in the early 80's. 1982 I believe is the year.

Just last year 4A finalist Bullitt East had a loss to 2A DeSales on their resume. Also last year, 3A finalist Breathitt Co. had a loss to 2A Prestonsburg.

In 1998 Highlands beat the 4A champion Male 51-41 early in the year. In 2000 they beat 4A finalist Louisville Trinity 42-29 in the Rec Bowl.

Guess they (PT) should be glad they are not in 2A.
