Nice come-back by the Tigers, who come up short on their final drive. I think a lot of folks expected this to be a close one. Congrat Breds.

It's nice to see that this is still a strong, competitive rivalry even though the two schools are no longer in the same district or class. Newport Catholic and Beechwood are the class of small school football in northern Kentucky, if not in the entire state.

Fun game to watch. good job Breds. Best 5&5 team in NKY.:ylsuper:

Congrats to NCC, thought they were going to run away with the way the first half was played. BW made good adjustments at half to come back and make it interesting. Good luck to both schools in the playoffs.

Does anyone have any details on how this game played out?

Classic Beechwood NewCath game, outcome not decided until the final seconds of the game when BW threw an interception in the end zone. Congrats to NewCath. BW had several chances to pull this one out. Failed on a two point conversion which would have brought them withing 8 and then missed an extra point on the next TD to keep them down by 4. I thought NewCath played it too conservative in the second half, but it worked out. The tigers showed a lot of character, they never gave up and nearly pulled it out. I am much more optimistic going into the playoffs.

I don't think NewCath played conservative the second half. They ran the same offense they ran in the first half. BW just made the right changes at the half to slow and shut down Kelly and Highchew. (Both very good players in my book). And #56 L/B what a stud he plays all over the field. Congrats to NewCath and hope Coach Schneider is back this week. Gool Luck to both teams in the playoff's this is why NKy has so much success in football teams like these two that put it all on the line for pride. JD

Beechwod definitely prepared themselves for the playoffs by playing a very tough non-district schedule.

I agree and so did NCC.

As we all know, both of these schools had a tough schedule in the beginning which has paid off now. Was New-Cath playing alot of underclassmen last night? I am just wondering how these two will match up for the next few years. Hats off to Brady Highchew, I knew that Chris Kelly was dangerous in the back field, but this kid is equally as. And to step up into the Qb role like he did. He will be a very exciting player to watch the next two years. Congrats Breds on your win.

I agree. I think NCC played it the same way in both halves. They went no where the 1st quarter, just like the second half. In the second quarter, they got that double pull, counter play going and 90% of their yards and I believe all their scoring came off that one play. Beechwood coached up how to stop it the second half and the players did it. That one play is the only thing NCC did that hurt Beechwood all night. Despite the loss, I am feeling optimistic that the Tigers can get back to the title game. It was especially good to see the passing game be productive for the Tigers. Ironic that on such a windy night it was one of Beechwood's better games passing the ball.
