Newport Central Catholic 26 Beechwood 22

I agree. I think NCC played it the same way in both halves. They went no where the 1st quarter, just like the second half. In the second quarter, they got that double pull, counter play going and 90% of their yards and I believe all their scoring came off that one play. Beechwood coached up how to stop it the second half and the players did it. That one play is the only thing NCC did that hurt Beechwood all night. Despite the loss, I am feeling optimistic that the Tigers can get back to the title game. It was especially good to see the passing game be productive for the Tigers. Ironic that on such a windy night it was one of Beechwood's better games passing the ball.

It has always been NewCath's achile's heel, stopping the passing game. That is the one thing that they need to sure up in the playoffs. Any time that you beat Beechwood at Beechwood it is a huge win. NewCath should be pumped and riding high going into the playoffs.

Congrats to the Breds for their nice win over the formidable foe in the Beechwood Tigers. Hightchew is definitely one player that has shown a HUGE amount of development from that first game at Nippert against Dixie to the final game.

He gets my vote for most improved player in NKY and will be a dandy over the next couple seasons.

I didn't see Hightchew earlier in the year so I can't comment on the level of improvement. But I will say he was very impressive running the ball and had a nice throw or two as well. For all the talk I have heard about Chris Kelly, Hightchew limpressed me more running the ball than Kelly.

Well they put him at QB a position he had never played before and he looked very raw and rusty in the Dixie game throwing some pics but you could see he was a solid runner. He has definitely shown he has improved his QB skills and obviously has developed into a nice Varsity runner as well.

I saw Highchew play Simon Kenton at Nippert. It was Beechwood that played Dixie at Nippert. And yes I will agree that Highchew has come a long way and developed really well. He will be a force to deal with over the next couple of years. JD

Thanks for the correction JD. I remember watching it on ICN 6 but that was many moons ago. Stinks getting old, the mind goes first.

He will be a force...assuming he has those horses to clear the way. He played extremely well, but give the "O-line" the credit for opening those massive holes. NCC found a spot and did a great job of exploiting it...and BW did a great job of adjusting at half-time and shutting it down.

The game should help both teams as they move forward to represent NKY...Good luck to both teams!

NewCath's inexperience is gone and now they are in playoff form. Corbin has tailed off as the year has come to a close. I like NewCath's chances in the region and, really, this side of the state. NewCath's staff deserves a lot of credit for gearing the team up for a 15 week season and continuing to improve each week. The players deserve the same amount of credit. Adversity REVEALS character, it doesn't build it. This team has character.

Hightchew is their big play threat on offense. Cain and Doyle can also run w/ the ball after the catch. Kelly eats up the yards, but isn't quite the break away threat of Brady. What is really exciting is that they will all be back next year.

I know a couple of the big boy's are seniors...how many of the big lineman are seniors?

I also look for a deep run by NCC...they are a class act.

:thumb: I agree. The most impressive thing about NCC is their line play on both sides of the ball. Big and agile. The defensive line showed great discipline in their assignments throughout the game.

Is Kelly only a junior? I know Hightchew is a sophomore (what a player). NCC will be looking good for next year.

Yes, Kelly is only a JR w/ Cain, Doyle, Daunt, Big Jack, Geisler, Tallon, and I think about four other players who see the field quite a bit. I'm not sure on the Sophs. The OLine has four seniors on it, I believe. They are playing great right now.

Typical NCC 2nd half coaching. Coach not to lose instead of coaching to win!:idunno:

How's it typical when the coach wasn't even at the game?
